Watching this game, I can see what a FC Barcelona scout said about his impression on the US grassroots system. According to his experience, he said that the coaches in the US are paid to win so they field whatever players give them the best chance. When they are 10-15 yrs old the most athletic kids usually run over the smaller potentially more technical ones so the technical players are usually disregarded. In other countries, the focus is not so much in winning as it is in formation so the Iniestas, Aitanas of the world do not get sweep under the rug and can continue developing.

There must be more responsibility placed on the USSF talent scouts that choose all these lumbering giants instead of technical players. We have so many, but they're always to slow/short blah blah blah. Nothing has changed in 20 years. We should be picking from futsal players starting at U14.

@@r2dad282 So really you want soccer (football) to be like Futsal, just on a bigger pitch, which doesn't work. What are you going to do, outlaw long passes, passes above shoulder height, tackles, are we going to introduce travelling offenses? make the ball heavier as it was when I was a kid. They're different games. get used to it. Football has a greater variety of roles, tactics and physical demands: the better game. It was born in 1863 and already evolved enough to the point where you your futsal players already get too much protection. You love Futsal stick to it. I love soccer. Give me Catenaccio. That will take care of your futsal players. Soccer players need to be athletic and tactically adaptable. Soccer is not futsal mate.

@@r2dad282 basically you want futsal to replace soccer, most of us soccer fans love the game the way it is and that involves physical contact, controversy, low blocks, counter attacks using space, pace and stamina, box to box midfielders, long balls, headed balls, just soccer the way it is. Stick to you dinky little futsal courts and the boring back and forth on a postage stamp.

@thesedreamsarefree If you like Italian soccer, you have good reason for it, but the US is not Italy. Italy have good coaches. USA have crap coaches (of course there are exceptions). I'd rather have youth players get trained for tight spaces starting at U8, then transition to 11v11 at 14 or 15. Learning tight ball control must be done in early youth, else it won't be done at all.

If Aitana was born in the USA, we might not be able to watch her play on the national team. College soccer is the same; they prefer physically advanced players over technically advanced players.

It's still a huge failure. There are plenty of players not chosen for the Nats that aren't so lame on the ball. when will the US learn it's easier to make a technical player a better athlete than it is to take an athlete and try to add on skills in their teens.

This mentality of winning at any cost needs to change for the USA. Little girls must be taught to take care of the ball instead of their opponents. Physically bullying weaker opponents will become rarer as other nations start investing more in their women. When will Americans wake up and start playing modern technical football?

I hope this was the third tier level of u19 players from the USWNT because their level of play was abysmal. And all that against a Spain u19 "lite" without 7-8 of their regulars and with lots of experimentation with players playing out of their regular positions

Spanish women players are the best. They are the current world champions in the regular women`s world cup as well as holding the cup for the U-17 league. Currently these the other matches the Roja team has been playin` are the EuroCup qualifiers which they beat Denmark the other day in that. And there`s no denying the talent in many of Spain`s younger players such as Alex Putellas, Aihone, Esther and that light skinned, mulatto woman from Zaragoza that is AMA-ZING -- she is SOO fast

Many folks in the comments don't want to accept the fact that the USA era of dominance in women's football (or soccer as they call it) was over the moment the big European clubs decided to professionalised their women's division. No big trophies for the USA against any European team in the near future

It will take more than one/two tournaments to earn the respect of the 4 time WC champions. Lets talk after the next world cup and if your prediction holds, then I will get worried. For now, we have just had a bad coach for a few years. Sure, the rest of the world is catching up but that was always going to happen as the game became more popular/accepted in the rest of the world.

What? 4-5 out of how many? and my argument had NOTHING to do with the quality of domestic leagues.
@thesedreamsarefree
@thesedreamsarefree 7 ай бұрын
I think that's jumping a bit ahead of things. The USA has had a big advantage in women's football because the game was banned in much of Europe until the 1970s from when it had to grow from grassroots level until standards to improve which started to happen in the 2000s and now Europe has caught up putting it on a similar level with the USA at a time when USA is also going through both a generational transition and looking for the right coach. That said its daft to write US football which has a huge population from which 1.7 million females are registered with US soccer. If they do fall behind tactically in the short term they have enough of a player base and coaching systems to adapt and continue to compete. My guess is that they'll be in the top four in the women's game for a long time to come. Spain are setting the standard at the moment and that's the level the others have to aim for but with their human resources and the right coaching there's no reason the USA should be able to do that long term. Even if the domestic leagues in the US fell behind the competitiveness fueled by club rivalries in Europe there's no reason why the best US players shouldn't benefit by playing in those leagues. It already happens in both the women's and men's game. I wouldn't write off the US domestic leagues either, competition drives standards and falling behind internationally will do just that.
@shawny5338
@shawny5338 7 ай бұрын
@@thesedreamsarefree Well said. One thing that most of these European commentators fail to grasp is that its not just quality of the program or players alone that makes champions. It's the confidence and mental state that you can ONLY GET by winning championships. France and England have been touted as the best teams for how many years now and how many championships have they won? We have it and most of the other nations don't, not yet at least. To your point, last I checked a few of the WC winning players from Spain are playing here. I would just love to see more games between the the leagues in some fashion to maybe judge it better.

No, there is no problem except that Spanish women play SUPERIOR soccer and as good as players like J. Shaw are, they don`t even come close to the talent of Las Rojas. Also keep in mind, that Spain holds the current Women`s World Cup and as well as the U-17 world cup and a couple days ago the national team played against Denmark in the Eurocup qualifiers and and again were victorious and totally stomped the Danes as if they were cockroaches. A coach is only a MINOR part of a successful team and the idea that leadership & authoritarianism makes a better team is an utter falsehood. It`s a matter of working together. -- A good team becomes good through working together inna MUTUALISTIC manner how las Espanyolas do.

@emilioaymat5651 It's not talent dude. Our hispanics are just as good as your hispanics. It's soccer culture which you have and USA doesn't. Spain: 48M, GDP $2.5T per capita $52K. USA: 335M, GDP $28T, per capital $85K. By all accounts we have more of everything...except good coaches. Our bad coaches insist on playing kickball because it helps them "win". there is no culture of developing the player first and foremost. Our players are just as able at age 8 as yours. It's all the training after 8 that is missing. We'd rather choose all the Bill Waltons/Shaqs of the world and teach them soccer instead of choosing all the 5'-8" magicians. But yes, we are doomed because our FA refuses to manage the sport and only wants to concentrate on the national teams.
