Hi there I did one years ago very similar way. I took the top off because it's super heavy. We jacked up the back of the body up then slid some 2x12 lumber doubled up and wrapped the slings around both sides and lifted it. Once the back end was up we slid big oil drums under the lumber and set it down on them to make it stable to back under with a trailer. Good luck keep it up love your channel watching up here in northern Canada

Hey guys... I have a suggestion for removing the second body.. what if you use big bird at the cowl and use a shop crane at the rear. Roll down the rear window and slide a nylon strap between the tailgate and body and anchor it to something solid under the body. Lift it up and roll out the chassis. Just a thought... good luck.
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the constructive advice! We're getting a spreader bar and going to try the 4x4 idea on the next one but will not risk it. And it will be gutted.

Just trying to save y'all a little time and hassle...if you use the "hardware variety" of eyebolt I'd recommend welding the eye closed so it doesn't uncurl on you under load...seen it happen... scary! Measure about 4 inches wider than the body width wise. Get two beams at that width. Get another beam to run between the two. Basically build a big h. Add mounting points for the four corners. And a mounting point for the crane. Wha lah you got a spreader bar. No panels will be harmed by big bird!

Maybe adding another chain fall and 2 people lifting each side slow (1ea working a chain) hooked to the 4x4 post...( Like a swing) that way you don't have to add any spreader bar and can keep the straps off the body . It was over 50 years ago that I totaled my car. Frame and front clip were toast. I found another car where the body was toast but the frame and front clip were good. I worked at a gas station with a single post lift. We raised the car up and removed all the body bolts and then lowered the whole thing on to 4 55 gallon drums on the corners and then lowered the frame away. rolled the new frame under and raised It up to the body. Modern 2 post lifts weren't around then but man would it have been nice. I don't remember how we wiggled the frame between the forward two drums. I was 16 then. If I can ever build my dream shop, it will have a 2 post. So I think I've mentioned before that I'm building a 37 Chevy half ton. I want to keep the stock look as much as possible but I want a truck I can drive safely. I live in the mountains so an engine that can operate efficiently at varying altitudes and suspension that can handle the twisty turns we have, and brakes that can stop it. To that end, I have a FATMAN MII front end to install and a rear axle from a 99 Explorer.
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that story! Sounds like an awesome way to get it done. And the '37 Chevy sounds like a really nice build.
