I inherited a Model 511P when I was a teenager. Did a lot of plinking with shorts and longs with it. I saved my long rifles for squirrel hunting. I ran the serial number and it was made in 1938. When I got it the stock needed refinishing which I did with boiled linseed oil. I also replaced the butt plate which was cracked and picked up a few more magazines as well from an obsolete gun parts place. About twenty years ago I mounted a good 4X scope on it and sighted it in at 50 yards with CCI Stingers. It is still a tack driver. I take it crow hunting to pick off cripples after I down them with my shotgun. It always does the job and keeps me from getting out of the blind while more crows are circling. Carrying it takes me back to my youth. Great video as always, Happy New Year.

I've collected a number of interesting older .22s, they usually don't cost very much, though the Winchester 1890s can get quite pricy. Winchester Model 69s are good and come in several iterations. Those Remington "5-teens" are very collectable, there is even a smoothbore version or two. Not all .22s are 10-22s!

I started collecting the "5-teens" several years ago. I now own the 510 "Targetmaster", the 511 "Scoremaster", the 512 "Sportsmaster", and the 513 "Matchmaster". All pretty much the same bolt action design other than magazine types, and stock configurations. I also own four Remington 581 rifles, and in my opinion the 580 series rifles are probably the best bolt action rimfire designs. Fast lock-time, super strong locking actions, advanced trigger design, a short bolt handle operation, full sized stocks, and superior accuracy are all great attributes to this line of rifles.

I have a mossberg 22 fetish i have 4 at this point one was a traning rifle made for the British to train new recruits in ww2 and never sold in the United states and another that is a smooth bore with different barrel attachments to add rifling or a rat shot attachment, it's a interesting hobby that renders much enjoyment and frustration with a bit of treasure hunting when you are needing parts.

My brother had a sporting goods store for just over 20 years and came in contact with some fine .22 rifles. My favorite was probably the Remington 541t in the bdl custom deluxe pkg and bull barrel. He put a Leopold verix 3 3x9 50 mm scope on itband we sighted it at 40 yards with .22 CB's. Although it was almost scary to carry into the woods due to it's beauty that was exactly what he got the gun for. It was unreal deadly medicine for squirrels. Very quite and the accuracy was unmatched by anything we had old or new including the old single shot Target master Remington rifles that had always been at the top of the heap and the marlin micro groove .22's that are way overlooked in the accuracy department. A great gun and it will always be a classic from the day it was made.

I love these videos on the old .22’s. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the hard surface table that you’ve got them all on. Lots of clunking sounds. I hope you’re not damaging them in any way. Maybe a piece of rubber or carpet would help. Other than that, Happy New Year!

The Mahely model 11 11 is probably the best one they made.Extremely rare is a copy they made of the Winchester model 55 single shot auto. Keep the videos coming and congratulations.-

My CZ lux model with the 24 inch barrel will consistently hit a shotshell at 100 yards. Love my browning and remington speed Master ❤ 22 shells were over 8 dollars per 50 at big 5 yesterday.

For me the only acid test of a .22 is how well it performs in the gopher patch. The only target rifle I've used that also makes a handy gopher gun is the Savage Mark II FVT. I once also had a Scultz & Larsen single shot target rifle and a TOZ Model 12. Both were superbly accurate but their 28 inch barrels made them unwieldy especially when getting in and out of a truck.

I love .22s also, but I'm not much of a collector. How would a person get started in collecting? Lov the show, keep up the good work.

I restored a Scoremaster someone gave me. They are great rifles that just feel right in the hand and shoot like a US made .22 should.

Great rifle to restore - not that many of those rifles around and people are either forgetting or were not aware of how fine the Scoremaster is.

When it comes to prices I think it is important for people to keep in mind that you live in Canada, and that your prices are not necessarily reflective of the American market. Also, when it comes to gun auction websites prices can go absolutely crazy and are not necessarily reflective of what a gun store may sell a particular gun at. Fair deals are out there, but one must look to come across them, to not fall in love with a gun before purchasing it, to know what the selected gun is worth relative to its condition and to the actual market, and to actually be willing to walk away. For me a fair deal doesn't just include the price, but how much time, energy, and effort a particular gun may take to find again if one is to pass on it. Some guns are so rare or hard to find that they may not be on the market for decades or never again in our lifetimes. For .22 rifles I just keep saying that people shouldn't overlook them. Heck, the reality is that there are just so many great and iconic .22's out there, and they are just a hoot to shoot. Anyways, have a Happy New Year!!!
