I was using the '2023.2.20' version and updated the new Game Creator 2 and modules and then I got 3 errors (Skeleton and so on). So I Updated the Unity version to the Unity 6 LTS version, and the errors are gone. Now I'm using the Unity 6 LTS with Game Creator 2 and the modules with no issues. I'm leaving a comment in case it helps someone.

yeah i've switched. GC2 works great in unity 6 for me, and everything else I've tried so far. Now I'm going to have to go and create an HDRP project and try out some of the new goodies, hopefully they don't bring my macbook pro to its knees. I don't have powerful machines available, so URP might be what I need to stick with for now

You said at the end that all of our purchased assets will require Unity 6 within a month..... So as long as i dont update my assets in my project it will be okay , correct? I can stay on old version?
@RVRGaming2 ай бұрын
Hey, yes don't update assets anymore if you want to stay on an older version, at least assets that contain scripts.

How hard will it be to migrate the work project to the 6 version? Is it worth it? I recently updated GC2 and everything literally broke, the backup file saved me, but here it's a whole environment update! What would you advise? How painful is such an update?

This is a great question! What I personally do when making a big switch (new LTS) - is package my scenes and custom made content in a Unity package. Make a new Unity project, install all assets I actually use (sometimes this is a nice moment to clean up a bit) - and then import my package.

I love Unity's usability, but Unreal Engine is kicking its ass in every other department, and any UE5 game automatically works with UEVR for full 360° VR
@RVRGamingАй бұрын
Fair! I think the usability shouldn't be underestimated. Looking at the amount of games releasing with Unity vs UE by indies on Steam - it plays a big part

You say, "I'm not gonna lie" a lot. It makes me wonder if you tend to lie, unless you explicitly say you're not. People who tell the truth usually don't need to tell people when they're not lying.

not a good update for mobile developers, build size is almost double, empty project apk size is 60mb which is not acceptable used to be 20mb.
@RVRGaming2 ай бұрын
That is very valid feedback on Unity. Mobile continuous to be their main platform, so the want to expand to others shouldn't get in the way of that.

@@RVRGaming I downloaded 3 or 4 versions of unity 6 now LTS version too but empty build is 60mb, with huge lib files build report shows users data of 2 or 3mb but apk is 60mb. Google play have 1mb to 5mb games how can one compete with that if unity have empty build of 60mb. Unity is following unreal engine last month i tested empty unreal build that was 100mb.

I don't expect an empty APK to be 20 mb for every release. Build size obviously increases as more features are added

@@Th3-Mast3rmind android users don't understand that, downloads goes down as size increases. Honestly it way too hard to survive in android & ios store right now.

@@RVRGaming I'll chime in: - Unity's always treated the game engine as more of a side project in my experience, than their main focus. - Many features are half baked on release, or just are thrown together. The terrain system was absolutely archaic for the longest. Net core support. Multiplayer was a crapshow. - They obviously use the asset store as a crutch for features they don't have the ability, desire or bandwidth to add. I guess my biggest reason to not use Unity is how poorly it compares to Unreal. Every new version of unreal, you KNOW you are getting some amazing stuff. Nanite. Megalights. Lumen. All amazing things baked right in. I don't remember the last time I watch a unity release video and was like...WOW. There's a reason there is so much excitement about unreal, it delivers. Unity's "wow" moments are when they finally flesh out features, and that's about it. And the "cool" stuff they add in has already been done by the competition, and usually much better. If Unreal had full support for C#, we wouldn't even be watching this video or having this discussion. What a shame. There would literally be no reason to use Unity. Period.
@RVRGaming2 ай бұрын
Great feedback. To go into details - They're shifting away again from the focus on movie, which the roadmap to Unity 7 showed - Tbf this goes for most engines. Nanite was halfbaked with tons of limitations at release as well, still is in some regards - With URP, I agree. However HDRP has tons of stuff these days that removes the need for a lot of assets Especially when looking at what's to come on the roadmap with Unity 6.1 and Unity 7 they're finally going in the right direction again. It's just unfortunate they took a détour
