Unity TERRAIN Tutorial - Easy and Quick (2023)

Question: How do I make a TerrainLayer image to use when creating a layer? Is there a certain file I put my terrain images in with Unity?

I honestly have no idea why the author of the video decided to add premade layers instead of creating them from scratch like 99% of people would need when starting out. To answer the question, to create a layer you'll need an image texture for the diffuse/albedo map. Can be pretty much any common image format, I usually see tga, tiff, and png - try not to use very lossy formats like jpg. Selecting an image creates a layer that has expandable texture input submenu. There you can add a normal map (make sure to set it's type to normal map in the properties) and a "mask" which is a combined texture that contains R - Metallic, G - AO, B - Height , A - Smoothness (this info is shown when hovering over the Mask word). Hopefully it helps people who have the same question.

where do you find the edit terrain layers button it isn't there 😶 Edit: you have to click on the dropdown and select paint texture

This is 2020, not 2023. Why are you showing 2020 if you write 2023? Does not match, and I was hoping to see someone showing how 2023 works, can't see some stuff on my version

This tutorial really isn't good. You can't start off a tutorial, especially one labelled "easy and quick", by just assuming that the viewer already knows how to completely set up the terrain assets in their project. This feels very much like part two or three of a tutorial series, and that is probably the worst thing that a standalone tutorial can do.
