Again, to be clear, I do not know where I stand on these issues but this approach of quoting Ibn Taymiyyah as a reason to adopt a position without evidence from the Quran, Sunnah or the understanding of the Salaf is not the way of the believers. As Allah says: { وَمَن یُشَاقِقِ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَیَتَّبِعۡ غَیۡرَ سَبِیلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ نُوَلِّهِۦ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ } [Surah An-Nisâ': 115] If anyone opposes the Messenger, after guidance has been made clear to him, and follows a path other than that of the believers, We shall leave him on his chosen path. At the head of the believers being referred to here are the companions of the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم as Allah mentioned that he is pleased with them in numerous places. This seems to be a trend with many of the people that critique the blind followers of Rabee ibn Haadi al Madkhali and some of the more extreme "Salafis". I disagree with these more extreme groups on many matters, but using words of the Khalaf in response is not the solution. They bring the sayings of the Salaf (often times, out of context). The response should not be, "Ibn Taymiyyah said," or "Ath-Thahabi said." We have to be better than this. It reminds me of the verse: { ٱتَّخَذُوۤا۟ أَحۡبَارَهُمۡ وَرُهۡبَـٰنَهُمۡ أَرۡبَابࣰا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَسِیحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ وَمَاۤ أُمِرُوۤا۟ إِلَّا لِیَعۡبُدُوۤا۟ إِلَـٰهࣰا وَ ٰ⁠حِدࣰاۖ لَّاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ } [Surah At-Tawbah: 31] They take their rabbis and their monks as lords, as well as Christ, the son of Mary. But they were commanded to serve only one God: there is no god but Him; He is far above whatever they set up as His partners! Ibn Abbas said: ما من أحد إلا يؤخذ من علمه ويترك إلا رسول الله There is no one except that his knowledge is taken and left except for the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم Collected by at-Tabarani. Ibn al-Qayyim has a similar statement about Shaykh al-Islam ibn Taymiyyah He said: شَيْخُ الْإِسْلَامِ حَبِيبٌ إِلَيْنَا. وَالْحَقُّ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا مِنْهُ. وَكُلُّ مَنْ عَدَا الْمَعْصُومِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَأْخُوذٌ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ وَمَتْرُوكٌ، وَنَحْنُ نَحْمِلُ كَلَامَهُ عَلَى أَحْسَنِ مَحَامِلِهِ. ثُمَّ نُبَيِّنُ مَا فِيهِ. Shaykh al-Islam is beloved to us but the truth is more beloved to us than him. And everyone other than the one that makes no mistakes صلى الله عليه وسلم has their words accepted and rejected. We (give them benefit of the doubt) by understanding their speech in the best way possible then we make clear the truth of the matter. This is the way of the believers, in particular, one who attributes themselves to the aathar. And Allah knows best.

@@GharibBFulan we can't always just go out and quote revelation on our own on these matters, we have to see the consensus of the ulema.. even so, Ibn Taymiyyah RA does refer to the revelation in his position - "And hold firmly to the rope of Allāh all together and do not become divided" 3:103 I agree that scholars can make mistakes and we need to focus on what is infallible, Quran and Sunnah - but just because I don't agree with the Ash'ariyyah, I'm not going to dehumanize them and use foul language towards them

It is not in line with the example of our prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and it achieves nothing but pushing people away from the truth. The two men who came to Yusuf عليه السلا in prison and asked him about their dreams because, in Allah's words: { إِنَّا نَرَىٰكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ } [Surah Yûsuf: 36] We see you to be of those who do good. At the end of the day, Asharis are muslims, even if they have mistakes and, like all Muslims, they have rights upon us. That being said, we should be consistent in pointing out foul language as was exhibited in this video. To be honest with you, the issue of determing the extent to which we can work with Asharis is well beyond the scope of my knowledge and as such, I do not delve into it. The issue I am trying to address is that of quoting scholars as though they are evidences in and of themselves. The premise of this video was to show the difference between ibn Taymiyyah and the "super salafis" of today. He said, "You cannot call me a deviant because you then have to call ibn Taymiyyah a deviant." When did men, in particular, from the khalaf, become the measuring stick by which we judge disputes. Its seems to me that this is becoming a trend and it is troubling. I have noticed notable duat, claiming to be qualified, engaging in such rhetoric. Now, I love ibn Taymiyyah for the sake of Allah. May Allah reward him for his steadfastness in the face of falsehood and oppression and the effort he put into reviving strict adherence to sunnah of our Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and forgive him his sins. All of that being said, he is still only a man who is destined to err and I could go through life never having read or heard a word of his and still enter jannah. The irony in all of this, is he would free himself of these people that blindly follow him. I cannot imagine ibn Taymiyyah encouraging anyone to follow him without considering the quran, sunnah and what our salaf said. As you pointed out, ibn Taymiyyah justified the position mentioned in this video with a verse from the Quran. I understand that there are matters lay people, of which I am one, do not have the training to navigate, and this may be one of them. Sometimes, we have no choice but to blindly follow. The people of knowledge are turned to with regards to such matters. That being said, a da'ee cannot wave a fatwa in my face to compel to adopt that position. How is that any different from what the blind followers of Rabee ibn Hadi al-Madkhali, may Allah forgive and have mercy on him, me and all muslims, do? I want us, muslims, to elevate our discourse. Someone here justifying bidah idhafi citing Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali. Another person diving into Kalam on the words of ibn Taymiyyah. Allah says: { یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُو۟لِی ٱلۡأَمۡرِ مِنكُمۡۖ فَإِن تَنَـٰزَعۡتُمۡ فِی شَیۡءࣲ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡـَٔاخِرِۚ ذَ ٰ⁠لِكَ خَیۡرࣱ وَأَحۡسَنُ تَأۡوِیلًا } [Surah An-Nisâ': 59] You who believe, obey God and the Messenger, and those in authority among you. If you are in dispute over any matter, refer it to God and the Messenger, if you truly believe in God and the Last Day: that is better and fairer in the end. To be clear, the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets, and we should look to them for guidance. I am not advocating for unqualified people extracting rulings from revelation. I am making a point about the fallibility of men.
