Pete, of course, clearly knows what he's about, having spent a lot of time on both sides of the glass in a studio. But the thing that drew me into this video is that he just seemed to be having so much fun playing with the Ox. I've been thinking about one for a while. I'm pretty old school good guitar, wire, great old amp, but Pete made the gizmo seem like such unadulterated FUN! That, in and of itself, has just about sold me!
@beachhunting695 жыл бұрын
Agreed. To me the Ox can bring out the creativity in a guitar player, make playing and experimenting fun and get those tube amps up to where they are supposed to be for the ultimate tone experience. I will be purchasing one.

As an early adopter of the OX, thanks for posting this video! Watching how you work with it will help me get more out of the unit. So far, I find the OX to be a great tool which just gets out of my way and gets me back to playing/recording guitars quickly. It pulled me out of the infinite pit of re-amping and I feel like my creativity is flowing again. That said, I like that I can choose to tweak mightily, if I want to. I think UA really nailed this product...it's made for guitar players but recording engineers will like it too.

Stefan Kozlowski totally agree...Bought this the week it came out and it is possibly the best bit of studio guitar kit I’ve ever owned...Cranked amps at a whisper n my little home studio and a plug n play mentality ensures you keep your focus on the energy and creativity of your playing that often gets zapped when dabbling in the digital realm...Amazing bit of kit x

Pete, you really can make beautiful sounds. While I was listening to this, I was thinking back for some reason to the Beatles. Not sure why, but there is something in their sound that speaks of individuals collaborating on songs, and making a composite that retains the individuality of the musicians, yet somehow blends in such an appealing way to the listeners, without effort. This to me is what I hear in the Ox, that combines cab, mic, speaker, room, effects as they blend to their composite whole. The Ox is such a cost effective way for a 'home' studio to get those available combinations into tracks without the weightlifting, not to mention the expense of unattainable for many. This is going to help many creative players to express in their music right at home, who would be limited otherwise. Thanks for the demo, great ideas, and as always, great playing and demonstration, too. Thumbs up.

@officialjasonlamb5 жыл бұрын
In the first 3 minutes of this video, the man showcased a wealth of talent which can only be cultured from years of axe weilding experience. He went from country twang to surfy trash and then into cosmic territory with some spaced out fuzz tones. By the end of that, I didn't really care what came next. I'm sure this OX is a genuine beast, but I find I don't get better tones at high volumes with my amp. It just makes it more difficult to manage. I play just load enough to be heard only a foot or two away from an iso-cab. No complaints from the neighbors so far. The tone is all a matter of gain control and pushing the amp with an array of stomp boxes I was excruciatingly pedantic in selecting. Each one is an integral component to my unique tone print. All that said, I'm not a stranger to the needs this device addresses and am confident the persons who developed it addressed those needs to the best of their abilities. And I say that having STILL only seen the first 3 minutes of this video. Your playing inspired a movement and that OX inspired me to yak. I will now recluse back into the dank dark corners of reckless abandon, where my pointless meandering is also an essential component of my tone print, even though it's pulled entirely out of the mix on every recording.

Great video and for me on the eternal hunt for that special sound connection, this peek into the ox's internal alchemy really hit the spot. As always, your playing is excellent, deft and nuanced- a storytellers playing style. This video finally stilled my wavering mind. I own a UA Octo satellite and their plugins are superb. I wouldn't expect a company with such a great track record,(pun) to scrimp on R & D for the Ox. That they include some great 'in-the-box' processing is an embellishment worthy of the Gods. The Torpedo Captor X from Two Note was in the frame for some time and like a moth I was attracted to the price point and the plaudits. In the end though it came down to 'atoms of goodness' and those are really the essence of 'realness' in sounds. I worked the comparisons forensically on KZbin and in the end the Jury whispered 'Ox' gently in my ears. Their is just some magic to the sound which gets you connected. Sure, we could all do with re-allocating the hunk of money extra that the Ox costs above that of the Two Note offering, to spend the money on other kit- very appealing!, but in the end it's those extra atoms that make the wind blow and the sun shine. If that means I work better and longer at my songwriting then maybe, just maybe. .I might fashion a new inscription for my headstone. Ox rocks and for that matter, so does Pete Thorn!

Definitely one of my favorite Pete Thorn demo tracks. Seems like the OX was inspiring Pete to try a bit of a different direction. Loved it. I bought this piece of gear a few years ago when I had my large and small pedalboards (and lots of pedals to sub in and out). Then I got into modelers, dismantled and sold much of my big board, and kind of forgot about the OX. Fast forward to last week: I had a buyer for the OX. I set it up with my still great smaller board to make sure all was well…and I canceled the sale. It reproduces the pure sound of the amp magnificently. Great video, Pete. Ty

Thank you for the demo (insane amount of work!). It’s a real shame this baby isn’t practical for live as I’m sure front of house would love it.
