If you want to see another option, check out 67 Designs 55 series rail. I use it in my TJ.

I will definitely take a look. How do you like it?

That looks like a good solution. I've been thinking about buying a double din head unit with nav and Android auto/Apple Car play for my TJ but after seeing your setup I'm now considering a mount system and an affordable tablet for navagation and onX.

Orginally I was planning the same thing as you but I couldn't find a head unit I wanted and I think I prefer the tablet for nav. I can take it with me, I'm not burning up my phone battery the whole time and I can use the tablet to download shows and movies for a passenger or at night when we are camping.

Bulletpoint Design now has a mount for the TJ dash. I too had the dash tray that you had, but after years in the sun, it got extremely brittle and was falling apart. I removed in and mounted the Bulletpoint Design plate into the factory dash tray. The quality of the kit is fantastic. Vibration is pretty bad though. To mitigate some of the vibration, I ordered the micro and mini arms. The standard 6 inch arms are too long and amplify the vibration.

Yeah TJs are just horrible for shaking. It's good to know they have a kit for TJs now though and you are right they are great quality!

Would love to see real time use of OnX on the trail and how well it works. When I looked into it, there weren’t many maps for my area in Tennessee.
@WheelinWithWally10 ай бұрын
I could try to do something like that the next time I'm out on a trail. There's not much in Ohio though. It has a ton of pre loaded trails and roads on there and you can map your own routes. But you can also download sections of maps for offline use and you can follow what you see in the satellite views for things that aren't yet mapped.

I found it a life saver personally. I've used it to lead my group through Drummond island in Michigan, I mapped some routes at windrock in Tennessee and i was able to lead all the trails in Colorado and Utah we did. I can also get on there at home on my computer before a trip and add gas station locations, bathrooms, overlooks and any other way points I want. Sometimes I used the free trails on trails offroad to add all the way points of obstacles they had to my onx maps. You can also add all of those while you are using it on the trail. So if you are riding a trail and find a cool overlook or campsite you can mark it on your maps. It's not perfect but it's been a game changer for me being to go out without a guide.

@@WheelinWithWally sounds like we’re in the same situation. I’d love to see how you utilize it and if it’s worth the subscription. Love your channel. Definitely one of the best TJ channels out there.

@@WheelinWithWally now you have me really interested. I did some KZbin research a while back but nothing like what we do in our jeeps. It was more overlanders doing the reviews.
@WheelinWithWally10 ай бұрын
@@justinmiller1535 yeah it was really useful copying the free trails offroad waypoints. They didn't have all the trails for free so some I used my offroading book or just winged it and added waypoints when I was doing the trail. But it's also cool because you can join a group or pay a trail guide one time and map the routes they take you on. Then you have it all saved and can take your friends alone next time. Personally I hate larger groups. 3 jeeps is great in my opinion so I don't like doing the big group rides very often. In my opinion it's definitely worth it. One of the best things I've bought for offroading.

Great video! I'm considering this mount for my TJ; how's the vibration while driving and wheeling?
@WheelinWithWally8 ай бұрын
Thanks! Honestly I love their mounts and just got another set for the Gladiator I bought. Vibration and bouncing while driving is no issue at all even with the way I mounted it. Off roading if I am on a real rough trail or on a real aggressive obstacle my tablet might slide down a little but never lets go. It just slips down a little to the lock button but thats pretty rare. The phone has no issue because it's much lighter. If it was mounted different than I mounted it than it probably wouldn't even do that.

@@WheelinWithWally Thanks for the reply! I think I may go ahead with that mount after all since the cheap Amazon special my boss recommended disintegrated.
