In this video I give an update on the dates for the Cost of Living payment for people on Universal Credit and I discuss the proposed changes to make some people in the LCWRA group go through another Work Capability Assessment.

We are very fortunate to have good people like Stu keeping us informed. A very poor social security system deliberately made punitive, confusing and distressing for disabled people and causes huge grief for unpaid carers It's simply barbaric it causes so much trauma, help like this alleviates the harm it inflicts. Many grateful thanks

Thank you for posting this. You are absolutley correct. It is so stressful. Being judged and instructed by people with no mental health conditions is so very stressful for people who have mental health conditions. Remaining positive is crucial but that is made hard by all the assessments, paperwork, threatening language and endless orders and instructions. It's extremely cruel on many levels.

My WCA form just came in the post. I suffer from extreme anxiety and panic attacks on top of depression and other health issues like constant loud and intrusive Tinnitus, IBS, GERD, muscle pains, tension headaches, extreme fatigue, social anxiety etc. I am trying very hard to not go crazy right now. People seem to believe that if they cannot see your medical condition you are a shirker. I feel like I am being punished every day for even existing.

Thank you, Stu. Your Channel is a mind of information, and is a great help to a lot of people. Yes, it seems that the Government has grown tired of "carrying the Infirm/Disabled"..... "Send them to the Abattoir, for a quick and tidy dispatch!" Perhaps this should be the new slogan for the Government. They seem to forget that a majority of these people have helped to keep this country going, and put wages into "their" grubby little pockets.

Its great that you had someone to help you. There are plenty of people out there that have no one. I recently discovered that there isn't a single service in my area to accompany people with assessments. Whether this is a phone call or face to face assessment. It's just sickening.

I'm already stressed about these changes coming. Currently going to tribunal with pip, I have well documented mh/CPTSD issues and they are refusing to acknowledge them. Having to pay solicitors to help, as there are no services in my area, only CA and they are under pressure. They are trying to kill us off, I've been saying this for years. If it wasn't for my son, they'd have succeeded with me already. I do get that there are many playing the system, but unfortunately it tends to be the ones who don't understand the benefits system that get punished. It's a constant worry.

They think I can work and I have been asked to attend a meeting at the job centre. which sure aches and pains my lumbar L4-L5 nerves damage. Anxiety. Beletral knees . OA(Osteoarthritis). Capal tunnel syndrome on both hands, on NHS waiting list to be seen in regards to this. Honestly, my lower half body of every joint is wear and tear. I'm falling apart.Good I have my walking aid (2 clutches), and this has helped prevent me from falling sometime when I feel my knees give way. I've been waiting for nearly a month now for a WCA after sending off the form. Keep getting calls from "Work Coaches" every week to find out if I've had the assessment yet and whether or not my health has improved since their last call. Currently awaiting for medical tests to find out why my legs don't work properly and why I keep dropping things. Until I have tests done to find out what's wrong and hopefully get treated I can't work. My mind is willing but my body isn't at the moment. The longer I wait for the WCA it's making me anxious to the point that my mental health is likely to go downhill as well. I don't think they will scrap the WCA. Currently at the moment there are 2. One for ESA and Universal Credit and the other for PIPs. They want to put it all under one, which will probably mean that those who assess PIPs will also do the assessments for Work Capability as well. Considering how difficult it is to get PIPs I think that even more people will score zero points considering their track record so far.

My legs are failing me too and balance is an issue for me. It’s like I have to concentrate on walking, especially when on a pavement, which I’ve never had to do before, I just would automatically take it for granted that I could walk wherever and however long and now I worry if I’ll even make the distance. At 34 years old this isn't normal and I researched it and the closest thing to my symptoms was ataxia where the brain struggles to send signals to the legs (nerve issues). I went to the doctor a few weeks ago and described my symptoms and she only seemed interested in if I was in any pain which I’m not but I’m still debilitated and losing control of my legs is a concern when you know what it was like before when you were healthy it’s frustrating when you can’t do those things anymore. It’s difficult for people to understand because it’s a hidden affliction and people think there’s nothing wrong. Well anyway the doctor sent me for a blood test and I’m waiting on the results of that but I’m doubtful it will show anything because from what I’ve read online I’ll need an MRI (brain scan) to diagnose it and I desperately want a diagnosis to prove to the Jobcentre and everyone else that there is really something wrong with me and I can't work, i'm not just being lazy. Ironic now that I wish I had the health to work even the most basic jobs and i'm jealous of those that can do it without a second thought. But it seems like it’s going to be a long and slow process to get a diagnosis as they seem to be trying the basic stuff first when really I need a brain scan.

@@JohnHaigh09 I had an MRI and nothing showed up. Had a nerve conduction test on my arms to find out why I keep dropping things and now awaiting tests for my legs. Had a neck X-ray to rule out a pinched pinched nerve and I have arthritis in my neck. My aunt had MS on my dad's side(multiple sclerosis) and my dad always had shaking hands ever since he was a child and the doctors didn't find out why his hands shook. His shakes grew worse as he got older. I'm 52, so aches and pains are expected but for you to have problems with your legs at the age of 34 isn't normal. Some people who have had Covid have had problems with their health which the doctors put down to "Long Covid". Back in the 1990's I had a "mystery virus" and was hospitalised with it. (High fever, short of breath, coughing and sneezing, lost my sense of taste and smell). Apparently the doctors couldn't figure out what it was. I was so unsteady on my feet for over 6 months as my legs felt like jelly. I was told that it was the risidule effects of the virus I had before. Strangely enough when I got Covid it was no worse than the flu first time around, the second time was just a sore throat, the third time was like having a cold. So it makes me wonder if the "mystery virus" I had all those years ago was Covid. I hope your doctor gets to the bottom of why your legs won't work properly the same as I hope my doctor figures out why my legs don't work. It's incredibly frustrating when simple tasks are not so simple anymore, especially when you want to work but your legs say, "Nope. We're on strike at the moment!" I have to keep a sense of humour about it otherwise it's just depressing.
@JohnHaigh09

@@samanthahardy9903 yeah, definitely sounds like covid, covid in the 90's who'd have thought! If MRI doesn't show anything then i'll have to push for a neurologist referral and hopefully they can get to the bottom of it, what you have too sounds like nerve issues and it just seems anything nerve related is a nightmare to get a diagnosis for. I have even described my symptoms to a friend and they just laughed and said it was all in my head, I wish it was all in my head!

A lack of B12 or even low amounts in your blood can cause people to drop things, brain fog, a lack of energy. My mum was lacking in it and had a blood test that proved it. They expect parents to support them… or expect him to work p/t. If he goes to uni he can claim student finance and grants but all support for parents stop even if they still live at home. They’ve just stopped CTC for my daughter on her 19th , she’s at college and they ordered me to work full time (35-40hrs) and really harassed me forcing me to go into job centre once a week and prove I’m searching for work for 30 hrs a week even though I work 24 hrs a week already and also they stop the amount u can earn before deductions so they take off money from every pound u earn as well when CTC ends (they don’t tell u about that so what a shock) I ended up about £500 down on my monthly UC award altogether so be warned. I especially agree with the advice near the end to consider talking support. I've had support called 'social prescribing' via my GP surgery and they were very helpful and encouraging. They referred me for counselling which I've also found extremely helpful even though my condition is a physical one. It would be a rare person who did not experience any self-doubt, or fear, anger, anxiety when faced with a WCA. No matter how difficult and painful your condition is, or even if you feel there are people worse off, to get support from another person with how you feel about your health condition in the face of a WCA is really empowering.

I don’t think I even filled the form in correctly either and wish I had called someone for help as they won’t let me fill another one in and I’d be surprised if they could even read the one I sent as I wrote it out in a nervous state but anyway hopefully things go okay 😪

But got a text message saying to wait 8 weeks for a response. GP Doctor phoned me yesterday. She has had DWP request for information in her inbox for a while. DWP made a decision without her input. So I've told DWP that her input is in the post. Its going to a right mess.

I know the DWP have a consultation about the changes to the WCA that ends on October 30th 2023. So I hope that enough people will write to them before then to hopefully get them to not go ahead with this. If enough people write to them they may be convinced not to go ahead as it would no doubt lead to more deaths I mean if someone is a danger to themselves or others if made to work then it's just insanity to take them out the support group and create a hazardous situation that question needs to remain to keep people in the support group thats what they'll do give zero points for that question in the assessment form if they go ahead with these inhumane changes.

Hey Stu. Are you aware that the people who get their wages weekly don't get any universal credits when there are 5 paydays in one assignment period. This means we only get 8 uc payments a year compared to people who get paid every 4 weeks or every month who get 11 and 12 payments respectively. They say that on a 5 week month we have earned too much money and therefor get a nil payment. I earn exactly the same amount in one year whether I were to get paid weekly or four weekly. This in itself does not seem fair to me. On top of that the spring cost of living payment qualifying dates fell on a 5 week month so my UC was a nil award which meant no cost of living payment. They have now chosen the autumn qualifying period and guess what?? That has also fallen on a 5 week month! Coincidence?? I think not! The government are craftily saving them selves a lot of money by penalizing those of us who, by no fault of our own, get our wages weekly. Yet I don't see getting wages weekly listed as a reason to not qualify for these £300 payments. I am now convinced that the spring 2024 payment will also fall on a 5 week month. How is this fair???

Exactly the same happened to me.. twice! I was getting paid monthly though but it’s no different. I nearly lost my home.. got into huge debt and it was so stressful. @@lolab1643 I read somewhere, years ago after the first time I found myself without a payment, that 3 single mums who got paid every 4 weeks and lost out on one payment a year, took them to court and won their case against DWP. I don't know if it was true but if it was then you'd think they'd have been made to change it for everyone. The tax credit system where they based your entitlement on how much you earned in the previous year was so much better. You knew where you stood with no nasty surprises.

You stand a chance of losing that component if the assessment finds you to be capable of some kind of work, no matter how ridiculous the suggestion of the role. But, you have to consider that you could also appeal the decision. The statistics on the success rates for tribunal suggest that you are likely to be successful. If you get the right advice and support, you increase your chances. Worst case scenario, contact organisations and charities to help you, like for example Citizens Advice Burau. They may have specialists available to support you in your assessment or tribunal.

@@jill677 Hi Jill, please note that fionahawkins8607 asked IF she was reassessed... so I answered in those terms. Please don't believe for a second that they wouldn't reassess. I was awarded ESA and was given a status until 2035. When UC (2016) was introduced I was suddenly required to be reassessed despite this. Strangely enough, I was found to be capable of work related activity, yet when I applied for UC because my ESA had been stopped 2 weeks prior to my receiving a letter saying so, I was given a new assessment under UC. They then found me to be not fit for work or related activity. It is a very real and present danger, and in my experience the DWP have little concern even for the law that exists, let alone how much stress they put disabled people through. There have been MANY suicides due to the DWP's actions, and even when the European union released documents that proved a direct correlation between DWP policy and deaths Esther McVey sat on it and categorically lied about the findings and statistics. When appeals at tribunal are showing a 80%+ success rate, I don't think we can be so naïve as to believe that the DWP concerns themselves with Justice.
