Does using the obd2 port with a scanner work the same or does it have to be this way?

Hi Brian hopefully you get to see this comment. I have a few questions. 1994 Bronco with the 5.8 Windsor The engine has 250k and runs perfectly fine. There is a small rear main seal leak that lets out very little oil. Would you recommend switching to conventional? I had been using synthetic as well as the last owner.

IMO it's worth a try. Just wait until next oil change. Motorcraft uses a synthetic-conventional blend, so you can try that too. One important thing: if your car came out before synthetics were used by manufacturers, your car was not designed to go further than 3k miles between oil changes. 5k miles is ok if using full synthetic, but I wouldn't push 5k (This is a generalization, some manufacturers in the 90s had tighter tolerances on production engines that can go longer on synthetics).

GM hasnt gone to this. Theyve been that way since the mid 90s

@@BSGAutomotive i believe so. Yes. GM was one of the first to do the 3 hits of the pedal to reset it. a lot of them had no other way to reset the olm.

@@BSGAutomotive Almost every GM I've ever seen had this as an option to reset oil life, many Chrysler vehicles do as well and most Toyota's are reset by holding the trip button in while turning the key on. Those are the only manufacturers I know of that have a fairly standardized procedure across most of their product lines. The worst manufacturer I've ran across is Mercedes, those are a pain to get to reset.
