Universal Geneve Polerouter De Luxe 18k Gold

In 1954, Universal Genève introduced the Polerouter, a timepiece specially designed for Scandinavian Airlines Systems (SAS) polar flights. These flights followed a groundbreaking route from New York/Los Angeles directly to Europe, flying over the North Pole. The extreme magnetic fields in this region posed challenges for timekeeping instruments.
The Polerouter featured:
Elegant 35,5mm 18k yellow gold case.
Reference number 10234-1 Polerouter De Luxe.
A simple and clear dial without date indicator.
Vintage Calibre 138SS bumper automatic movement.
Caliber 138SS was introduced in 1948. Initially as Calibre 138 with a subsidiary second, then as Calibre 138 SS with a central second, and with date indicator as Calibre 138 moondate. It measures 28.2 mm in diameter and 5.55 mm in thickness.

Nice job! Also good to remind folks that not all Polerouter watches have micro rotors. I have an early bumper also. Can be tricky to line up the paw and rotor so it bumps on each side.. I sometimes line up the rotor before putting the pallet fork back in.

This is a stunning watch. Apparently the hour chapter ring can be rotated? It appears that the hour ring inadvertently rotated slightly when I compare the before and after service photos?

Mr. Magic, if I may ask, why do you prefer HP 500 oil for the jewels, instead of, for instance, 9010 and HP 1300?

I use HP500, HP1000, HP1300 and 9010. The oils has different viscosity. I use HP1300 on higher grade movements like this particular movement, as well as HP500 in place of 9010 (except on balance end stones where I still use 9010).

I wouldn't wind it that fast due to the automatic works. Small teeth and crazy friction at high speed.....
