The clock is beautiful, I just thought you'd restore the dashboard too, which is a little worn.

Great work: 👍👌👏! Personally, I would have "aged" the lume and used air-brush or spray-paint for the seconds hand.

Why did you apply the plate with this method instead of dipping it in? Very interesting
@MagicWatchmakingКүн бұрын
Which plate you mean exactly?
@lizid5Күн бұрын
@MagicWatchmaking when you applied the plate with the sponge instead of hanging it in the liquid.
@MagicWatchmakingКүн бұрын
I assume you mean the pallet fork when I lubricate it. It was in a piece of rodico (the green mass) to hold the pallet fork. The dipping in the fluid you mentioned is a special treatment with epilam. Epilam helps the lubricant to stay in place. I treat always the shock absorber jewels and the pallet fork with epilam. I didn't show it to keep the video short!
@lizid5Күн бұрын
@@MagicWatchmaking sorry, I meant the gold electroplating, I have not often seen it applied in that way, usually the piece is hanging inside the liquid
@MagicWatchmakingКүн бұрын
The plating method you mean. Okay! As I mentioned already in the video there are different methods to galvanize. One method is the one like you describe… dipping the workpiece in the plating fluid and the other method I have used. This method called pen plating which is just a different method! The intention was just to offer the viewers something new to see.

Would you regard this as a basic movement? Great video enjoyed watching, thank you
@MagicWatchmakingКүн бұрын
For today's standard I would say yes. For a movement from 1947 I will say highly complex because of the bumper automatic and it is very thin for its age and been automatic. Thank you for watching ☺️

Nice restoration! I quite enjoyed this one. Any reason you went with the bright greenish white lume that looks brand new? I heard that adding a bit of coffee to the mixture makes for some natural looking faux patina lume.

It seems to be water based. That’s why the hand rust. That’s my assumption. Maybe I’m totally wrong!

As others have said, fantastic job. Personally if I were to commission you to restore a watch, I would request a new dial as well. You did such a nice job on the hands and case, it kind of looks out of place with the dial with so much patina, and nothing else. Be well !!

Excellent job! Recently a friend asked me to look at a non-running Seiko 5 he had purchased on ebay; the case was in excellent condition and the caseback indicated a 7s26 movement. Upon opening the case much to my dismay there was a 7009a movement in a terrible state, much like yours: glue on the dial, rust everywhere, chipped hole jewels, bent pivots, restaffed incorrectly, et al... alas the movement required more parts than my friend wanted to invest in (my labor was free).

I have this watch and it is 45 years old. It has worked every day, and has the patina that only a Boilermaker could give it, welding spatter and all. About 5 years ago I had it restored, but did not want the exterior touched. Now it has returned to less than 4 minutes a year. My jeweler begged me to sell it to him. He took photos of the movement and it looked pristine.
