As someone from Puerto Rico, it shocked me to learn that children in America have to pay for their school lunches especially for food that’s often not even nutritious or edible.

Feeding kids is so important. I don’t even have kids and agree. No kid should go hungry.

as someone who hates the idea of having kids but also having been one,i fully agree, starving sucks ass. i should know, only got to eat a few times a week on average, bitch neglectful "mother" really enjoyed cooking things she knew i hated even smelling much less eating. and dad was always at work,no energy to cook. ..I'm not even bothering to describe my school life, suffice to say,it sucked... hard, nothing really went right or worked well.

We spend 2.5 trillion on the military each year, which is 220 times more than feed kids.... ridiculous.

i plan to do... idk, something kinda weird, i have to check legality first, but in a few years i could most likely have a fairly significant amount of excess fruits of various types, considering some kinda open take box to leave few pounds of fruit in every morning for school kids\local homeless or disadvantaged, to passby and pick up something tasty and healthy, i plan on both basic stuff and exotic fruits(because i can grow those in California) from berries of various types to oranges, tangerine, sugar apple, wampi, lychee, longan, mango,Dragon fruit etc. if it's legal it'll happen within 5 years most likely. obviously I'll mainly be selling fruits and other things, but i wanna do something for the area, especially because i grew up there and i know I'd have loved it if someone did literally anything for us as kids on the walk to the bus, having fresh tasty fruit would be the best, especially if free and good variety. but i might have to work directly with schools idk yet,I'll find out when it's time to do it, but i hope i can manage it and make my dumpy rural community a bit better with fresh fruit for youth and starving folks.

Tbh, by making sure kids are being fed and eliminating food insecurity you really are investing in your future. Children are less likely to develop a huge list of mental health issues and physical health issues *just* by reducing the very significant stress of food insecurity. You can provide adequate nutrition and really fund future america. Only hesitancy would be obesity as children go home and maybe have a 4th dinner. That being said, obesity doesn't cause the myriad of life long health issues that stress from food insecurity would

If prisoners get free meals, why can't our youth?

Why not just get it out of the trash. That's where the kids put it the first time when they went to buy chips sodas and candy from the machines or their friends. Just because someone is below the poverty line doesn't mean that they're acting the part, or would even care to act the part. I remember begging in school to the other kids around me for money specifically because I did not want the reduced fare lunch or to be seen getting the reduced fare lunch. Healthy vegetables and even fruits? Forget it! It's a classism issue. If everybody had to brown bag it there'd be less waste and happier kids. Subsidize food at the grocery store, not at the school.

I agree as long as we provide free housing and food in nursing homes. Also, eliminate taxes on individuals over 65.

A very good thing! No student should have to go through a day in class hungry, or have all the lunch debt.

I had to pay for my own luch ticket. A certain person would rob me of my money or steal my lunch card. I am 100% for nationwide free school lunch.
