I just found Brad recently. I’ve been working my way through his channel. Absolutely changed my perspective on Jesus and the role of him in my life. Wonderful and grounding perspective.

Are there any early church fathers who interpreted the texts this way? I'm unaware of any. Perhaps this is the crowd that wouldn't care about such things. 😄 In that case, why care what the texts say at all of they can mean anything that wasn't to anyone?

Origen was a Universalist in the 3rd century, and it's unlikely that he was the first. Edit: At the same time, the idea of eternal conscious torment didn't exist as an official doctrine until the late 5th century.

@@morganwyatt5953 The idea of eternal torment is found in the texts of the Bible, among other conceptualizations of the afterlife. Official doctrine or not, it was around according to all the scholars I listen to.

@emalee8366 I never said it wasn't. It was around, yes, but not exclusively. And there are many ideas of what the afterlife looks like included in the Bible.
