As an 8-9 year old boy I found that I could relate more with adult men than women. When I was 10 my mother, a beautiful 45 yo woman meet the love of her life, a handsome 21 yo German young man, blond, blue eyes, very attractive that I developed a crush on, I just liked being with him and around him. My feelings where not sexual, I didn't know what sex was at that point. Perhaps my mother's intuition told her that I was getting too attached to him, being physical, playing and hugging. He was more like an older brother that was a lot of fun to be with and not a real stepfather. He never did anything that anyone could considered sexual with me. So as a 10 yo I was sent to live with my dad thousands of miles away, I didn't see him or my mother again for another 20 years after I moved. They were happily together until her death many years later. As for living with my and his 2nd family I never had a physical contact or a hug from my father and never really felt part of his family, so I grew up pretty alone, self sufficient, without love or any human contact...

A boy alone without an emotionally connected father or older brother. The natural desire for this bond can be so strong in some boys that they are willing to do almost anything to get it. This movie resonates with me so much. I think that too often we discount the feelings of children and refuse to acknowledge that they can feel desire. I started having sexual feelings when I was 8 and recognised them as such even at that age. I had some experiences with other boys my age back then, but didn't encounter older boys until I was 12. Nevertheless, the feelings were real and it has always troubled me that many people refuse to believe that I could have them back then. As adults, I think we have to recognise that kids can have these feelings and if they do, help them navigate them safely instead of trying to pretend they don't happen.

I don’t recall experiencing any this like this a young boy. However, I do recall something from when I a teenager travelling in France. I think it was in Nice. I was swimming near a floating dock some distance from the shore. I saw a beautiful looking young man push himself up onto the dock. I noticed every part of his body. In particular how nice and slim he was. I was a bit overweight as a child. Even though I was slim when this moment took place, I think I experienced a mix of attraction and envy. I didn’t know this guy, but some part just really wanted to know him. I’m not even sure what that means… but certainly there was an element of attraction. Great delicate movie and boy actor. I believe most boys did stupid things such as stealing speedos at that age, so this fits perfectly into the story. Whether the boy is becoming aware or pushed by his burgeoning gay sexuality or is simply looking for a loving father figure is not clear and does not need to be, or a mix of both, the movie just describes it as the boy experiences it. I think being attracted to an adult rather than a boy of his age shows some unresolved psychological issues rather than just gay attraction, but then boys this age may be confused by more than hormonal changes and not fully understand what's happening. A great movie asks great questions rather than provide answers, and I wish the best to fictional Rémi!

A beautiful film on a matter extremely common and yet never or very seldom discussed and touched by cinema and art. The physical attraction of a little boy to a same sex adult. A very delicate topic which stands on the opposite side of platonic pedophilia as it is depicted in Thomas Mann's "death in Venice". Congrats!
@messengerpdx2 жыл бұрын
The "opposite side" is not pedophilia but the point of view. Death in Venice is not pedophilic, either platonically or physically, but that's just my opinion. It's shameful and disrespectful that the word and subject of pedophilia has to even be mentioned, introduced or talked about in the context of this film.
@OumyNeferti2 жыл бұрын
@@messengerpdx I suspect that only pedophiles and people with pedophile tendencies are making that correlation in this context. The adult man in my eyes was conscious of the boy's interest but responded in a more paternalistic way. Taking advantage of the child would have been pedophilia and utterly wrong.
@remomazzetti8757 Жыл бұрын
Death in Venice is not about pedophilia at least not in the original novella which is subtle and superior to the melodramatic movie which distorts the original. And by the way, the age of consent in Italy is 14.

When I was 24 I had a crush on an older glamorous woman and she had a son of about 12 and he was obsessed with me, to the point that I felt quite uncomfortable, but looking back I realise it was normal. He was an adorable blonde lad and silly and playful and he would always want to wrestle me and bathe with me, and the lady was happy with that. I became close to her and as a result close to her son, and i had to get used to the fact that he loved me. I had boundaries and eventually he became more like a younger brother. But young boys definitely look up to, and sometimes obsess over older guys. I was a bit similar with older boys at school, but never attracted. I don't think that way, however I know many do, and sadly would abuse a child, which is scary.

Yeah but a woman kissing a boy was being allowed even in a mainstream movie. I remember seeing an old Disney movie where a female police or an fbi woman kissed a young boy directly on his lips. I don't think it's even harmful to show a Teenager or a fully grown Man having a sweet french kiss with a young preteen boy. It's human connection! It's really unfair!!
