That's the third joint score of 400 or more this series and yet another impressive yardstick with the just-highest score of the series from the winners. The HSL/2nd Round is shaping up to be a bit of a bloodbath - so many good 1st round performances, and there's not enough room for them all to progress ATM 😮! Thanks as ever CosmicPumpkin for your stalwart services - I'm sure those living outside the UK, or without the BBC, are extremely grateful for your videos 👍.

Thanks again, CosmicPumkin! This is another episode where my predicted winning team, based on the fields of study of each member, was completely wrong. I don't know why I even bother anymore. The winning team was absolutely fantastic on popular culture questions, and that proved to be the difference. The winners are a well balanced team that will be a tough out for any of their opponents, especially if there's a lot of pop culture questions. My best to both teams, and each individual.

Riz Ahmed has one of my favorite movie quotes. It's from Four Lions and he talks about how a suicide bomber's corpse is mixed in with a sheep he's accidentally blown up. Bonus, it features an answer in a bonus question this episode: "Is he a martyr or is he a fucking jalfrezi!?"

Whilst Sheffield's performance was indeed absolutely stellar, this year's first round questions are significantly easier than in previous years. Classical music-related questions have been mostly absent, but most telling ist the fact that during each show, I am now able to answer about a quarter of all questions, whilst in the past I was lucky to get three overall. I hope this changes in round two!

Seems to me that the higher than usual scores are due to an easier level of questions in general. (No disrespect to the knowledge of any team.) I was rooting for Loughborough, they were bringing it back in the second half and a lovely bunch.
@slidetrombone Жыл бұрын
I wonder if it's a combination of that and Rajan's reading speed- maybe it's just in comparison to Paxman, but he seems to be zipping through the game (not a criticism)
@andrewclifton9772 Жыл бұрын
I don't see the questions as being easier than prior years. They always are easier in the first round and going by memory I think my own performance is about the same as always.
@patsy451 Жыл бұрын
I think it's the speed - in previous years I would usually get about 20 questions right in the first round, but this year I've been averaging 10-15. So I'm not finding them easier. Rajan seems to read a lot faster than Paxman. I think the test would be how many questions are asked over all, and what is the ratio of correct answers to total questions. (I am not going to do this research, but it would be a reasonable way to identify the reason for the higher scores).
