University of Houston students on edge, demand more safety after string of violent crimes on campus

After a student was sexually assaulted at knifepoint, the University of Houston said it is increasing security and will meet to address safety concerns.

It's always kind of happened at U of H, this is not new. The school is so close to the ghetto/hood. I was at U of H back in the 90s and early 2000s. But crime was more spread out back then, you heard about crime every 4-6 months, not all packed together over a course of a week. But the way things are reported are different today.

The area is not safe. There isn’t enough lighting and campus police is nonexistent.

My college had a lot of crime in the parking area but the police didn’t report it to the local newspaper blotter. The college wanted to suppress the information and they used the justification that the crimes occurred on private property. Same with the local mall’s parking lot. I actually called the local police department to ask why some recent violent crimes were not being reported.

Students can take pictures and videos to keep a record of lack of security. They need to make it viral for UH can address this issue. Students and parents pay too much money for this
