I think the school made a deal with protesters to have a little time to say what they wanted and leave the place so that people could have the graduation ceremony. The school handled it well since they prevented protesters intrude the school.

Michigan is a very diverse state with a long history of protesting. You can't go more than a few days without seeing a sit in at the capitol or a campus. It was always going to happen, so it's smart for the school to account for it.
