Sorry to burst your bubble but Cebuano is a language not a dialect, we don't call ourselves filipino since in the beginning the people of Cebu existed before Spain arrived in this archipelago, given a chance for a referendum we will separate from this so called Philippines. Jerry Grim The song is in Bisaya.. its a language widely spoken in the south of the Philippines.. and yes the "tigiding" and "tigodong" are sounds used to describe horses running but it also pertains to the young lad's heartbeat as he watches this young lady dance in excitement. It even described him drooling. It's a funny song.

This is our favorite old folksong in the Visayas region of the Philippines, Cebu, Leyte and Mindanao areas. As a Filipino kid, we had to learn this song in our first grade. The song depicts of a young lady from the mountain whose only treasure is to sing a song about courtship she learned from her parents. She showcased this talent in time of festival or celebration in the town.

@@justrandomthings709 nah idk its not even filipino its visayan
@AngryKittens Жыл бұрын
@@justrandomthings709 It's NOT the original version. 😑The song is actually quite modern. The original version is an unreleased zarzuela written by a Cebuano composer, Domingo Lopez, some time before the 1970s. The Visayan lyrics are presumably the original lyrics by Lopez. A TV-friendly version of the lyrics in Tagalog was written by Levi Celerio in 1973 (without the laway), which was made famous by the singer Pilita Corrales. The Spanish version is a modern translation of the Tagalog version of the song by Pilita Corrales' former live-in partner, the Paraguayan singer Amado Sarabia (also known as Amado del Paraguay).

When in high school we sang this at a national choral contest in manila along with Baleleng and Ako kini si angi /leron leron sinta and wonnnn. Am a proud Filipino/cebuano. Hearing this made me cry and remember such happy days as a child. I wonder if they understand the words. It is a very happy folk song about Rosa's life. Coming from the mountains selling stuff at the town market , to get by. She joins the town bonding or gathering which was a common tradition in the Philippines, without planning , people would gather to sing and dance. But Rosa is talented with BALITAW , an extemporaneous exchange of verses or words about love , done with graceful dancing , with a man who would challenge her for balitaw. Because she is really good at it , she wins over the man. And the man ends up druelng over her beauty and wishing he could win her love.
