There was a discussion on the MG Experience Board about the heat insulation washers. When compared to an original 1980 MGB (owned by Moss Motors), it was found that the washers are not fitted as shown by John in this video. The washers are fitted on both the upper and lower faces of the bracket that is attached to the tail pipe. In this way, the washers then isolate the rubber mounts from the heated bracket. That is why the upper studs are longer - to accommodate both insulating washers. The thick flat washers are also used in that location - they sit atop the upper insulating washer - one on each upper side - visit the MG Experience and search for that discussion. of all the things to actually over-engineer...BL picks the fucking exhaust hangers...go figure lol
