Louise Cole the term 'preachy' usually says more about the person who uses it that the method the person talking about veganism uses- for example a vegan saying,'hey you should go vegan, look what you pay for when you eat that' and if the person were ready to hear the message would just listen to what they were being told with interest. On the other hand if you said to a hardcore carnist, 'have you ever thought about maybe causing less harm' they might just flip out at you and call you preachy. So it is totally about the person on the receiving end of the information.

I think every meat eating person (including myself) should visit an abattoir at least once in their lives as I think meat eaters as a whole don't appreciate where the meat comes from. I also did a week of working on a dairy farm and I can 100% confirm that not one calf was killed for that reason (only one calf was killed in my time there and that was because it was born with a breathing issue that would have needed an intensive care unit). The calves were admittedly taken away within a few hours of being born however I can say hand on heart that neither the mother nor the calf showed any kind of distress to this. The milk the calves drank was a powdered milk (similar to a powdered milk that a baby would drink but geared towards cows) and so it does help them grow! All of the calves then grew together in their own herds for dairy cows or beef cattle- no veal!! The veal industry is very small in the U.K. and not that many farms supply calves towards it. A few other things I can address is that it was never once referred to as a "rape rack" and although I am NOT saying that artificial insemination is good in any way it's not distressful to the cow and they aren't dragged to the stalls (they're just calmly ushered). My experience of a dairy farm was in the U.K. so I understand that things are different in other countries but animal welfare in the U.K. is huge and is also the top priority at most farms (if not and an inspection took place by the RCVS (for vets that saw and allowed this) or the VPHA (veterinary public health- if diseases in milk were found) did an investigation there would be measures taken to improve the welfare for the animals). I completely appreciate everything said in the video and know that in some places this is to be true- but British milk is usually okay on the welfare front!! I can also only speak for the dairy industry and therefore not the poultry or swine that was mentioned throughout the video. This comment wasn't meant to disregard anything Jade said and I have a HUGE respect for vegans as a whole and know that it is a healthier diet all around but the comments made on the dairy industry I thought I had to address! Thanks for reading hahahha
@chocolateteacakes80253 жыл бұрын
Just fyi, most male calf’s are used for veal as they are not genetically bred to be “good meat producers”, so they won’t grow to adulthood on a normal meat farm as the industry is all about maximising profits and a meat farm wants cows bred solely for meat so they can produce maximum quantities of their “product”. Male calf’s from dairy cows are not deemed suitable enough, hence the veal industry- you wouldn’t have seen them being killed at a dairy farm as that’s not their business, they’d just sell their product (the baby male calf) to another establishment where they’d be dealt with accordingly (aka reared for a short part of their life before being killed for veal). The female calf’s are typically reared as future dairy cows (as they are of use to the industry, since they’ve been bred specifically for this “product”). I do agree UK regulations in the meat and dairy industry are marginally better (though worse off now that we’ve left the EU’s regulatory body), but to believe these regulations are actually enforced effectively is naive. If you’d like an example of gross misconduct being conducted within the UK meat industry, despite it being against these supposed gold-standard regulations, then look up what caused Mad Cow Disease; that happened in the UK and it’s honestly horrific. I do completely agree though that everyone who eats meat should spend a stint seeing its production though so good on you for having at least spent some time to see the industry from the inside

I've also grown up having meat in just about every single meal of the day, apart from some breakfast times, so adjusting to not eating it would be so hard. Also, it would be so difficult for my mum to buy separate meals for me every day, since i'm still in school, and don't have a job, i don't do my own shopping, or my own cooking most days. There's also the issue that I rarely find dishes without meat that I actually like, since i'm not a huge fan of vegetables, but I really wish I was

I've been vegetarian for over 12 years now (I am 17). It started with the sadness I felt, thinking of the beloved animals that were killed for the meat industry and I just didn't want to support this. By then, I've been the only vegetarian in my family and from my friends. Getting deeper in the topic by growing up, I learned so much about all the negative aspects of meat. Later I started to get interested in veganism but I never felt strong enough (because of my family and it would have been pretty hard, not being the one who does the shopping and cooking of the food). I haven't been drinking any cows milk for over a year (or at least we don't buy any anymore and I take the vegan option in every coffeeshop - it tastes even so much better!). I brought it to the point, that my mother is vegetarian now, we both are on our path of (finally) turning vegan together and it makes me so proud. My little sister and my cousin (both used to love meat) turned vegetarian as well! I buy vegan cheese, don't eat eggs. It is still pretty hard sometimes, and I haven't reached the point of living exactly the way I want to, but I am so happy about my supportive family (and friends). I used to feel a lot of anger. I was angry about the politics that didn't stop this shit. About the uneducated people that couldn't understand my decisions. About the slaughters, the people that didn't see it the way I see this whole mess. Thanks for the video! I loved how you said that you were not preaching. That you tolerate the way, others are eating. I am trying to think more like that. Just focussing on myself and on the best I can do. It's not my turn to tell others what they should eat. It's pretty hard though, because I still can't understand how to support that cruelty...

Thank you for sharing your story, I do have one question relating to a morning routine you filmed a while back; why do you chose to use gluten free porridge oats? Is this related to a medical issue? Additionally, I respect your choice to be vegan and listened to your reasoning however, I would also like to share with you that not all farms are run in the way you explained. I know the majority of videos and documentaries you explained do, yet there are millions who follow a non-intensive farming industry. This goes for anyone struggling to maybe get their parents to allow them to come off of meat - visit farms, check them out, find one that raise their animals fairly and treat them right until slaughter - and you then know where your food is coming from. If we boycott meat, the best farmers will suffer and then maybe result in mistreatment, increasing the numbers of animals being injured or harmed. Because the truth is we will never create a world of meat-free living... so, for those wanting to save animals but can't follow a vegan life for any reason - check out your farms, heck why not work on one for a week to see how they do things. Find one that's trust worthy and support them. Hope this helped

Ruben Pope I understand your point, but what I was trying to get across is the fact that no matter how many people turn vegan there will always be people in the world hunting animals and using meat as their only source of food (some countries physically don't have the soil to grow anything but poor quality, un-nutritional plants). So I believe as vegans/vegetarians/anyone passionate around the subject (including me, which is why I'm saying this), it is partly their job to explain to people who won't choose to cut out meat from their diet that they need to find farms which follow a non-intensive system. So that the people that still are eating meat aren't supporting illtreatment of animals, cheap food and poor quality. Instead the animals that are still being bred and raised for meat or dairy (as it will still happen, unfortunately) will be cared for and won't go through ANY of the things Jade stated. I know a lot of farmers who would never do such a thing because the truth is - farmers want their animals to be healthy, if not the quality of their meat will be bad and they won't get enough profit to even make it worth it. Wouldn't a vegan be HALF way to meeting their goal on impacting the world if all the issues raised in these documentaries were no longer there? It's better to be half way to a goal than getting no where at all.

For my English GCSE we have to do speaking and listening on a topic of our choice. I chose mine on veganism (sadly I had the limit of 10 minutes and I could have said a lot more). After the class, many people approached me to say that they had never heard of what goes on in the dairy and egg industries which is insane! I got a distinction thank god aha but I'm really glad that I was able to spread awareness just like you! much love x

hi Christina, I am 18 and went vegetarian mid way through last year and vegan this January. None of my family are vegetarian or vegan, and I doubt they ever will be, but it is actually a lot easier to deal with than you think. My parents love that I make my own food and are happy to provide the money for groceries (in fact, I do the weekly shop for everyone), it makes them feel like I am more responsible. True, they are not very aggressive people so they were never opposed to me going vego. Although, I do admit they were a bit concerned about nutrition when I told them I wanted to become vegan, but all I had to do to combat this was start a nutrition diary (I use cronometer) and show them that it was easy to get all the nutrients I needed on a vegan diet. Hope this helps :)

Heya, I know I'm not jade but I've been vegan for two years and I would say if you're interested make it a gradual process, there's no need to rush and going vegan gradually and cutting out non vegan foods a bit at a time can definitely help in my experience. I went veggie first for a month and then I felt ready so I did a lot of research tried out lots of vegan recipes and took the plunge. And don't worry at all if you occasionally unintentionally slip up , nobody's perfect 😜 good luck with your ethical mission ❤

!!! I became vegetarian this time last year, and honestly it was the best decision of my life. I've become healthier and I feel so great, morally and physically. I really want to be vegan but my mum is scared I won't get my nutrients, but I think she's slowly (very slowly) opening up to the idea. I don't eat eggs or dairy, unless I've been cooked them for dinner, as I don't want to be too much of a pain in the arse, but I'll definitely become vegan in the future. Anyway, great video, I learnt so many new things. 💚🌱

Nicole Soo the calcium from cow milk has been proven to actually raise your risk for osteoporosis. You'll be fine on a plant based diet, eat enough and you'll have more nutrients than you did before.
@wavycole22437 жыл бұрын
Naomi Carter I eat enough calcium from things such as veggies anyway, I've done my research, don't worry. The only nutrient you don't get from a vegan diet is b12 and I take supplements for that now as a vegetarian too. Im not 100% sure, but isn't the b12 in meat fed to the animals, and as a result is fed to us, rather than it being natural.
@wavycole22437 жыл бұрын
Naomi Carter anyway thank you for the well worded comment, it sounds like it's coming out of concern not hate, unlike some from angry meat eaters (and I know there are also many angry vegans that exist, I try not to be irritating and preachy as it just turns people off.)
@AllTimeChemicalSixer7 жыл бұрын
Usually I'm opposed to watching vegan videos because, as you said, there's a lot of preachers on KZbin and, honestly, preaching itself just puts me off the whole idea of veganism. But you've made it so easy to appreciate veganism! I didn't realise how ignorant I was to the whole meat/dairy industry. I've tried to go veggie before but it's so difficult when you're living in a household full of meat eaters who have been eating meat all of their life. I'm off to uni soon though so I'm definitely considering trying to go veggie full time as it'll be much easier making my own meals all the time! I'm not sure if I could ever commit to a full vegan diet, but you've definitely opened my mind to it and hopefully I'll be much more aware of what I'm eating in the future!

Such a great video!! So many people don't even realize that they are forcing their opinion down on other's throats. Not even only with the topic of vegetarianism or veganism but with anything they feel strongly about. And also do many people are just so “half educated“ on the things they are trying to tell others about that they make some good points but also talk complete nonsense & think that these are facts but you are not anything like that and it's very great that you are that way! You are so well educated on everything you talk about.I actually started not eating meat anymore because I was just not feeling well doing that. It just didn't taste as it used to do and it just felt wrong.Also I cut down on dairy products. Even if I'm not 100% percent vegan your video reinforced me to continue moving towards a vegan diet. Also my mum always that we are designed to eat meat to be healthy so so it is great to to hear and that other opinion from someone who's so educated on that topic. This encouraged me to research that matter and tell her if she says that again. Have a nice day 😊

@mayan-k657 жыл бұрын
Perfectly said, Jade! I'm vegan too but I always have such a hard time staying calm when speaking to my non-vegan friends, family and acquaintances because people can be so rude! I've actually been having quite a hard time with my parents because of this. They feel "attacked" and just block me out if I ever start talking about veganism (which is so selfish because they're only thinking about they themselves as an individual, and not the bigger picture). How do you stay calm and non-judgmental around others? I understand that everyone can do what they want but I HATE it when my non-vegan friends say "I could NEVER be vegan cuz MEAT is LIFE", or "I could NEVER give up meat it's just SO good" like why can't they think about others other than themselves and their tastebuds? I frequently feel alone on this journey and though its refreshing to know that yes, there are others out there, in my every day life it's something that really brings me down. I just haven't learnt how to smile and nod and live my life the way I want to, I still feel a constant need to educate those around me (I don't do it forcefully but some people in my life are just so closed minded it's impossible) and I often go home sad because I've not been able to make a difference or those around me have made me feel BAD about being vegan and being an avid environmentalist (like if I go to an Animal Rights march or bring out my spork because I'm trying to be more zero-waste)/feminist etc. It's been especially hard starting in a new school for sixth form as I know people are just labelling me as "the vegan" and have all these prejudices about me, and I'm afraid this might hinder my ability to make friends. Of course, I still love being vegan and I'd never change it for the world, but not allowing the negative comments to get under my skin is something I really have to work on, and your videos really help me with that, so thank you! You've truly got a beautiful soul and I always wish you were at my school so we could be friends ahah creepy or what... Much love xoxo

I've been watching a few other vegan youtubers lately, and since then drastically reduced my intake of animal products and lived more healthy over all. I still eat dairy - I've never been much of a meat eater, though - but I do start incorporating more plant based milks, yogurths, etc. in my diet. I think I will try going completely vegan for a month, and just see what's my opinion of it then. Thank you so much for this video!

You're honestly voicing my thoughts very well, even though this is an older video. I've been vegetarian for like 8 years, and finally decided to go vegan half a year ago (honestly don't know why I waited so long), at the age of 21 and it's so frustrating to constantly have to explain it to everyone around you. It's not like they actually want to hear the reasons, they mostly ask because they think it's strange. People just don't know, and don't want to know that everything they do has impact on the planet and the life of other beings. I can't see myself going back now, it's super easy once you've done a little research and has so many benefits. I really hope more people see videos like this and realise it's really quite important :)

Jade for PM! I'm not vegan yet; I'm not even fully vegetarian (I am when I have the choice and most of the meals my family cooks are veggie, but I don't feel in a position to make it difficult for people to cater for me etc.). But I aspire to veganism, and I think when I go to uni and I'm buying for myself, I'll be able to do it. My primary cause is the environment- it's the zero waste movement which has made me aware of the importance of being vegan if you truly care for the planet. Like you said, it's all very well reducing your plastic or biking instead of going in the car, but the animal industry is what will make the biggest impact. Unfortunately (well, not really unfortunately because I am excited about it!), I head off on my gap year programme this week and I know I'm going have to eat so much meat in order to be polite and respectful of people of different cultures and customs. I know you can always say 'no', but the purpose of me going is to help and bless other people, not cause extra problems, so if I'm offered meat I will take it. However, the statistics and information you've given in this video have been super helpful and really hardened my resolve to eventually become vegan. Can't wait!

Just a quick note to say, as someone who has struggled with anorexia for more than this past year, I know how damaging influences like this are in promoting a lifestyle which is going to 'completely change you' - but which are really detrimental to our health. Please do your own research, talk to your doctor, and I implore you to hold off experimental diets until you are at the age (about 25ish) that your bones have finished developing and that your body is in the better place for this kind of thing. If animal rights concern you, just try buying higher quality, free range and farm shop produce, preferably from trustworthy and honest sources. I don't mean to rant or anything, I just know the damage that this kind of thing can do!
@397based57 жыл бұрын
Naomi Carter Did you not watch the video about free range animals? Please stop spreading misinformation. On a plant based diet, everyones bones will be fine. PS. veganism is great for people who have struggled with eating disorders. No limitations, so nothing to trigger that mindset that sends you spiralling into hating yourself and your body.

I’m actually crying. This is so well structured and correct and urgh shxjsj. I get nervous and anxious when trying to explain why I’m vegan to people who as BECASUE of the immediate hate and judgment I have received in the past. Finally a video that I can show to people which has the exact same beliefs as I do. Thank you (I’m pretty sure this makes no sense I’m just so excited and happy

Jade I just want to let you know how emotional and eye opening this video was. There is so much that i learnt which I didn't know before, and i'm sure not many people do. Thank you for spreading this really important message. Animals are not treated how they should be and it is heartbreaking. I hope you reach out to as many people as possible and once again i'm super proud of you! :)

Personally, I would love to go vegan, the benefits it can have mentally, physically and even socially can be incredible, as well as all the reasons Jade just pointed out, but I come from a farming background; my family obviously do not carry these views. I cannot speak for the poultry industry, but these dairy stories are not true in all cases and could be true for the industrial farmers, rather than family farms. The price of milk was cheaper than water at one point but is slowly rising, as my family has noticed due to people realizing that people do want quality and well-being of animals rather than cheap and cost effetive versions. On family farms, the cows spend all day outside eating grass rather than grain and only come in for milking and the calves don't have milk substitutes, but rather saved milk from the milking. Cows also can milk from 4 years and upwards, and for small farmers, their animals lives do matter! The males are kept or sold off to other farmers for breeding, and in a tight knit community in the countryside, everyone knows everyone and their animals. I believe that if people really want to stay on a non-vegan and non-vegetarian diet, then simply sourcing their meats and milk from reliable and family farms can really reap benefits for the well being of cattle, and bring many small family farms back into the business. This video has been one of the best so far! But I just wanted to make sure that people who don't follow this diet don't feel too guilty and do have other options! Have been trying to go vegan, just need to break some habits first! Love your videos, Jade! Keep them coming!

Kate Stevenson Exactly what I've been trying to say, people need to visit local farms and find one that is non-intensive. We can't boycott these products or prices will drop, and cheaper products will become popular with animals being treated horribly to minimise cost!

Rhiiannon Louise I do believe veganism is very important, I'm trying to become one myself! But I am passionate about this, realistically the world will never be fully vegan as much as I hate to say it, so we should be thinking about supporting local family farms that do care about cows and how they are cared for, the large industry of agriculture that Jade talks about needs to be cut down!!

Kate Stevenson Exactly, I believe that vegans should also spread the word about the importance of buying FAIR meat and checking where it has come from. Otherwise people will continue buying KFC, McDonalds and cheap produce. Additionally, even when that is done there will still be rubbish meat in our pets food! People need to wake up and stop buying total rubbish that has 'Animal Derivatives' in it, since when do owners think it is okay to give a dog meat from a can that has beak, claws and other shit that we wouldn't like to have in our sausages!

Rhiiannon Louise Id actually never thought of pet food!! Interesting comment, it would be interesting to research what they do with other animal parts because I know they also put it in makeup to!

Kate Stevenson I've become passionate about animal nutrition since doing my City and Guilds Diploma and moving onto a Degree now in Animal Management. So yes, I think owners need to start taking responsibility for their pets nutrition and begin reading labels!

This video has been very eye opening and whilst I'm not vegan myself I do eat vegan over half the time and having heard what you've had to say I'm definitely going to aim to eat as much vegan food as possible. Just one questions though, where did you get the information that cows aren't vaccinated because afaik all farms are required by law to provide proof of the health and safety of their cattle and there are vaccination programs in place to make sure that animals are protected against certain diseases?

Hi Jade! As a vegetarian, I found this video fascinating. I'm just wondering how old you were when you became a vegan and how you manage a vegan lifestyle when you live with people who do not xx

Thank you so much for spreading light on all of these issues and using your platform for the greater good - I've been vegetarian for a few years and don't eat eggs or milk but I'm slowly trying to transition fully to vegan, you have really given me the push that I need. THANK YOU XXX
