sadly I have ocd so can never do this, can never relax be present in the moment, always always preoccupied and caught in a cycle tormented by distressing obsessive thoughts and trying to cancel them out by doing compulsions. I envy people who can do this. the fact I can't ever be present and enjoy things and constantly feel worried /preoccupied with my ocd results in me becoming depressed too

i'm so glad i watched that part! my favorite thing is that you don't even have to be somewhere special to do it right??? the other day on the full moon i literally went outside AT NIGHT (i was terrified) and sat on my deck staring at the moon and feeling the breeze and it was such a magical moment! taking time especially when we are busy just to kind of sit back and observe _something_ is an activity i hope i'll enjoy for the rest of my life :)

I live near Dresden and fun fact: those darker stone you can see in the church (Frauenkirche) are the stones, that remained from the chruch there, which was destroyed in the second world war. The ruins where left there as a memorial, before the reconstruction (thought it might be interesting) btw it is just as beautiful on the inside^^

There's still so much in the surrounding that is worth seeing; Großer Garten, Loschwitz, Schloss Albrechtsburg & Lingnerschloss (some of the best raised views of Dresden for free!)... and further in the surrounding area Schloss Pillnitz, Moritzburg, Meißen, and the Sächsiche Schweiz (Königstein is my favorite area here)! If anyone is interested. There is a museum in Dresden called the "Panometer". There are two main "attractions". One will show you Dresden as it is now and one shows you the ruins after ww2. This is really interesting but as far as I know is that this displays will show separately and only half a year. So if you visit in February /March you may see the one and if you visit October/November you see the other.

I loved what you said about your moment of realisation about your ancestor's and the German guys ancestors. I feel like that's what the German curriculum on WWII tries to ingrain into us from very early on. This feeling of, it's not your fault or responsibility but it still has implications for you today such as taking responsibility for never letting it happen again. I had a similar encounter when I toured a university library in Belgium while on exchange which was destroyed by the Germans during both wars and there I was standing touring that library and studying in it, the grandchild of a man who was forced to fight for the Nazis in Belgium 75 years ago, quite a strange feeling but it definitely makes you more grateful for a lot of things.
