I think you have that wrong everyone in his brother puts an LS in something now the 4l60 transmission isn't the best if you're throwing power at it. but then again I also don't buy anything new so anything after 2007 I don't really mess with it as far as GM. the newest vehicle we have is a Toyota 4Runner and a Camry but those are my wives and I hardly ever get to drive them. But that's just me. And Cummins is were it's at for pulling and reliability. I've never had any issues out of any of any of my Cummins and I pulled boats fifth wheels small equipment like excavators, bobcats, small bulldozer.

The Vortec V8s were bulletproof until in GM decided to add VVT and cylinder deactivation to it. Trying to add modern VVT technology to a pushrod engine whose basic architecture dates back to the 1950’s wasn’t a good idea. Then you would think they would’ve learned lessons from cylinder deactivation from the Cadillac V864 disaster but nope. What made those engines so reliable was its ancient, simplistic pushrod design. But typical GM, they decided to go for more power and efficiency on the cheap. 15 years later they’re still suffering with lifter failures.

Had a Ford ranger like that for 14 years, had a 3.0 V6, loved that truck, sold it with 210k miles on it. Clutch lasted until 196k and that's with teaching 4 people how to drive a stick, lol. Sold it to my cousin whom wasn't the best or smartest caretaker and somehow he blew it up within 6 months. Wish I had kept it.

I had a 95 3.0 and a 98. Both were bulletproof. I drove them both over 200k, no problems ever. I sold them because i wore out the seat. If the apocalypse comes, I’m gonna find one of those.

That’s impressive, only time an engine light ever does come on those is something minor usually like a Oxygen sensor or a Misfire

Probably something lame that has little bearing on the safe operation of the vehicle. Just OBDII scan tool in it. Could be a very small misfire or something with your EGR. Sometimes just taking juice off the battery for like an hour and hooking it back up fixes the problem.

I see Ford Rangers all the time with 300,000+ miles on them. Very good little trucks. Lots of vehicles can last a long time if you take care of them and keep up on maintenance. My 2005 F150 has 245k miles on it

I have a 2010 Ford Ranger XLT 4wd that came from a fleet service out of The Portland Oregon area that I bought with 285,000 miles on it and currently has 308,000 miles on it now. And it appears to still be the original power train. In fact, unless this fleet was serviced at Ford dealerships all the parts on it are still factory FoMoCo.

Have a 2000 ford ranger 4l with over 360k miles on it and it still goes up and down the road. Owned since new. Nearly everything still works on it including the AC and 4wd. And mine is a lot cleaner than the sample you showed.

The seats in that Lexus were cut. Somewhere along the line whoever had taken that car in stabbed the seats so they would be worthless to anyone else. I've seen it done many times. They will smash taillights, cut seats, break radios, Ive seen scrapper guys smack perfectly fine aluminum wheels with those 14lb sledge hammers right on a spoke and bend the fuck out of it just so it's of no value to anyone other than them.

Ah, the mid-2000s. They will be remembered as the most reliable cars in history. In no particular order... Honda K24 & most other drivetrains, BMW 3.0L inline 6 before double Vanos, Mercedes 5.0L V8 with 5AT, Nissan VQ35, Toyota and Lexus everything, GM 5.3, 5.7 and 6.0s, Ford 4.0L V6... port injection everywhere. Long term reliability was the name of the game.

I had a 2001 Silverado with the 5.3L and it had just over 300k when I sold it. Eventually the 4x4 stopped working and the power steering went out, but that motor fired right up every time. Regret selling that truck.

Everyone has regrets, but you did what you needed to with it, and it'd cost you 5-10 grand to completely rebuild everything ALONE and so much time. 20k+ for a mechanic.

I've personally rebuilt my whole truck minus engine/transmission for 3k (suspension, exhaust, tires, brakes, ECT) and I only did that because the engine/transmission have 75k on them and they're original

As for a GMT 800. 2004 Suburban my old man cruises keeps clicking off the miles , its well past 350k . The key isnt even doing preventive maintenance like so many say . But to not ignore when something small goes wrong ...

I have a 2003 Ford ranger V6 3.0L RWD with 239k miles. Got it with 220k miles for $800. The rust underneath is not even and I am surprised especially since we are in the north east. I changed spark plugs wire coil pack oil pressure switch tires brake pads etc it runs great also changed the upper control arm fixing the clunking noise in the front. I am no mechanic but with a truck like this I learned to diagnose issues and fix them myself

The sound from the Ranger is probably timing chain rattle, the 4.0s biggest issue. Mine timing chain tensioners and guides broke at 230,000km and they made exactly the same sound. currently in the prosses of fixing it because besides that issue it an extremely reliable engine

1, its a vulcan 3.0. 2, theres no timing chain rattle. 3, theres just an exhaust leak

@@timm5970 Thats definitely a 4.0 SOHC, the exact same engine that I have, and its making the exact same sound as mine, you can tell by the rattle on start up. You would be forgiven for thinking its an exhaust leak though as many people also thought mine sounded like that when it was idling.

The electronics are kind of crap and the flimsy plastic interior items are so so.....but I have the original tranny and engine with no major issues and it's got 225k miles. And they are right on TFL about the parts .... plentiful and cheap for those LS based engines from 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0. SOLID!

99 Ranger with the 3.0 is my daily, and barring how small the cabin is (regular cab) I don't have any complaints. It's got 205k on it, with a rebuild 60k ago because my grandad was very particular about his vehicles being reliable. Never needed the rebuild, but that was before it reached my hands, so I can't complain. By the time I get a new car, that 205k will probably be a 405k!

I've seen 4 cylinder Jeeps with well over 300k on them. It's a slow setup, but they are tough. There are tons of Wranglers out there with stupid high miles on them. The valve noise on the Ranger isn't surprising. A lot of them sounded like that when they were new. It's just letting you know it's running....

The YJ would have been fuel injected if it had a 4 liter in 89. They switched to fuel injection in 87 when the Wrangler first was introduced

The wrangler didn’t get the 4.0 until 1991. Only the 4 cylinder was fuel injected unless you got the Cherokee.

Yes. I daily drove a car with over 300,000 miles for years. My current daily has over 200,000 miles and runs like an absolute top with no warning lights, tears in the seats, anything! I've never owned a daily driver with less than 150,000 miles. They last a long time if you take care of them!

I went to a car dealership once to see a 2013 dodge grand caravan, as soon as I awkwardly sat down I reached down to slide the drivers seat back and it was already maxed out. It's kind of ironic that something called the grand caravan has absolutely no leg room. I am 6'2 and weigh over 240lb so I'm definitely bigger than most but why do car manufacturers design their larger vehicles in such a way that larger people can't even comfortably drive them? I guess they are just catering to the masses.

I have a '99 Expedition with 310k as a secondary vehicle. Don't use it much but it can sit for months and starts right up and drives great. I would give the interior a 9/10 and the exterior a 6/10 only because of the Maroon paint fading in spots.

01 tacoma 4x4. 2.7 almost 300k. Can get in and drive it anywhere. When that motor dies I will put another one in with no hesitation

If that’s the 4.0 ohc they’ll junk! Don’t ever buy a 4.0 ohc get the push rod

You can't deny fuel injection make cars last longer but my pics would be 22RE , 4 l Jeep engine, anything by Honda and maybe what he's showing here on the thumbnail the 2.3 l Ford ranger motor. And this is factoring in lack of maintenance because people who own these engines are broke mostly just like me. Transmissions are very big factor. All my pics had a manual option which I would pick 100% of the time I have a bunch of honorable mentions that I'll keep to myself.

What y’all surprised about?! Hell, I’m on my 4th vehicle that I put at least 350k miles all alone myself. Regular maintenance and not dogging the hell out of it. Make a video with 500k miles, that’s worth taking about!!
