What I love most about Chris's stories is that there is never any judgement. He just tells the story. Also his compassion, to the person, who's story it is. He gets scared, and worried, all the things for the person, who went through it. I love that about him. He's just an amazing guy, and storyteller.

My second husband grow up in Southern Illinois . He has told me some weird stories about things in the forest behind the house they used to live in . They moved to Southern Illinois after he was born in 1973 . These weird things happen that he remembers in the seventy's until the late 90's when he left the area . They were a poor family and could not afford a phone . His two teenage sisters refused to go into the woods behind the house after being scared by some large creature that stunk and chased them back home . He remembered not being able to open the windows in the house at all no matter how hot it got inside, and no one was aloud to look out the window at night time. He was about nine years old heard some weird noise outside and peeked out the window anyway . He said there was a monster outside the window trying to look in . The next morning there was a deer in two pieces left hanging in the tree in the yard on a branch . His mother moved the family to a different town down there within a week . And the creature seem to follow them because it showed up at their new house . The encounters with the creature seemed to stop when his oldest sister moved out on her own and away from the area . But said even years later if he was walking or riding his bike he could get a whiff of that stinky smell and know it was the creature and would stop and turn around and return home . But the creature wasn't the only thing down there ( other weird stuff too )

I also remember a terrifying story of a Sasquatch by a river and a salvage yard. This was also in S. Illinois. When I was a senior in H. school in 65, a couple was terrorized at a favorite spot in St. Louis County that kids from that area went to "watch submarine races" The girl told me they heard terrifying screams and then something huge and hairy came up and rocked their car. She had a look of terror on her face and was definitely not lying to me!

Dude, I am so glad you're covering this. How is it you're the only one taking it serious. I live in the Shawnee National Forest, and hear them nearly every night. I have also seen them a couple times and have tried to file BFRO reports that are just overlooked and I wonder if they don't take me serious because I'm a girl. I noticed most the time people only are guys. They are not aggressive, and I think they have amicable relationships with dogs. My dog used to always bark at them, and they used to bark back. Sometimes they whistle in the middle of the night like they were canaries, and I was scared that night. They were close, and they were throwing pebbles at my door and windows. But they love music, so I turned some music on from the TV and they stopped. I will also say, they don't seem threatening, however, just know that bigfoots are HUGE. They have HUGE ARMS too. The most recent time I saw him, I caught him by surprise. I was listening for him and there was nothing. I went in and thought I should leave cookies out to feed them.. when I went back out, I saw it approaching and I didn't know it was a Bigfoot and it froze when it saw me. So I said "Watcher, I have cookies for you if you want them" and I was looking around, but side-eyeing him and saw IT WAS a Bigfoot, on all 4s, and it started creeping up to me, and he had HUGE hands. So I wrapped up the talking to get back inside the safety of my house. I actually LOVED IT!! Also, they yell, scream, and grunt a lot. And they sound like gorillas too!! They're amazing!! Also, I'm not so afraid of them, but I respect them. Thank you so much for covering this. Also, at the end, I was thinking that sounds like are bigfoots, and looked and it said Illinois Forests. It's so cool, isn't it. Keep up your work!! Love it!!

Great continuity with these stories, Chris. Those sounds were indeed strange. With tongue in cheek, I can imagine two independent Bigfoot groups out in two different parts of the woods, attempting to draw out Sasquatch with their Bigfoot hoops. Group A gives their best Bigfoot impression and quickly hears a response from the other side of the wood. Groups B heard a series of hoops reverberate throughout the woods and so responded with a series of their own hoops. Both sides non-the-wiser. Meanwhile, back on the other side of the mountain, the Sasquatch family shake their heads and laughs at the human's pitiful attempts. LOL!

Thanks for the terrifying stories, Chris! A few years ago, I heard loud howls/roars similar to the audio you shared. It happened on PA State Gamelands right after sunset. It wasn't coyotes or bear. It must've had huge lungs. My dog and I were terrified. It sounded like an elephant, lion, and a T Rex mixed together. We ran to my car as fast as we could, locked the doors, and got out of there! I've never been so scared or ran out of the woods before or since. It's why I started looking into this subject.

Wow…….. I have to comment about the howls. I am a professional vocalist but mostly retired now. I started out in opera but eventually sang with the LA Master Chorale and toured for many years with smaller classical choral groups. The reason I’m giving my background is because of my knowledge of the human voice and one of the things I find interesting about these howls is how huge the sound is. Usually, in the music vocal world, larger sounds are made by larger people (not always, but usually,…..a good example being Luciano Pavarotti.) I guess what I’m getting at is that these sounds were made by VERY LARGE creatures! Not coyotes. Not wolves. Not mountain lions. Not elk in rut…etc. There are definitely human-like elements to these sounds. For instance, certain notes on the musical scale can be pinpointed in some of these vocalizations, just like those found in the human voice and most musical instruments. It’s very exciting to hear these, Chris, and of course , your stories tonight are top notch SCARY. I think it would be fascinating to have an analysis done by an expert on the human voice as these are by far the best audios I’ve heard of presumed Bigfoot vocalizations. My own take on these sounds is that are not made by any known animal in the US.

@alyssstout8112 Do you hear a singing (or almost harmony?) like quality to the howls in the background of the main howl at times? I kept thinking I heard that but then would think it was in my mind like maybe I was trying to apply human characteristics to something that clearly was not human…

As a hunter I fully agree with your observation, these are not K9s, the lung volume is waaaaay bigger, somewhat closer to the moose or even bigger. Btw on the background you can actually hear how wolves are trying to catch up several times, totally different pitch and sound. That’s freaking scary, Ive never heard anything like these howls !! Chilling !!!

@@LostfallsYes, I do. And that’s what I’m referring to when I mentioned the “notes” I hear within the howls like that of a musical scale. Besides being a haunting sound they are somewhat beautiful.

Im 69 and have lived in murphysboro my whole life. I was in high school in 73 and remember these stories and knew all these people, but ive never heard any of this screaming or howling ever. Im not saying ive never heard weird noises while out in the woods or out fishing but not these noises. I have heard some very intense very deep growling a few times, that was unsettling! As far as the big muddy monster, hes still a popular figure around here, but no sightings for years ! But theres always been some kind of story about things going on around S. Illinois. My mother worked at the forest office for a time in the 80s-90s, and said people came in all the time with stories of happenings in the forest....many involving their tents beind attacked and ripped up thru the night with alot of growling and roaring heard. Some thought bears, some mountain lions (usually known as panthers around here), stuff like that ! But who knows for sure.

There is something about the howls that you just know they are not wolves or any other animals. I’ve personally heard it myself in the forest too close for comfort.

I had a Uncle from Murphysboro Illinois. Henry Illinois along the Illinois River is fantastic habitat in those river bottoms. I put underground fiber optic cables in there 4 years ago and it's creepy as hell along that River. Hunter's and Farmers around here are very tight lipped about what they see. Thanks Chris, love stories from my home state of Illinois Henry Illinois isn't far from Peoria IL.

You know I feel bad for the last woman who's husband didn't believe her. How awful to share something so scary to you that you literally gave up something you really love (riding horses) only to have them not believe you. I can't imagine how that must've hurt her.

24:32 i'm walking around in my backyard (which butts up against a deep forest) listening to this video when it suddenly occurs to me that it might not be wise to play these vocalizations in a place where i've encountered the woods people... especially since i don't know any meaning behind said vocalizations! 😂

Absolutely....... walking in a NE Illinois subdivision with my 2 very large dogs. They were terrified. It's what opened the door to my cryptic research. And since I grew up by Bray Road in Elkhorn, Wisconsin (The Beast of Bray Rd).......we've told stories for years. That area isn't far from Gray's Lake, which was where I visually saw this one beast. It confirmed encounters I had throughout my life of being followed or possibly preyed upon, without realizing, as a country raised farm girl. I have photos of insane foot tracks, and can tell some crazy stories now.

There is no way those vocalisations could be done by a Wolf, to get those long deep guttural tones you would need to have a huge pair of lungs. There is a clip on youtube of a trucker in Canada parked up overnight hearing those same sounds, but literally yards away from his cab. Hearing that alone at night would give you a primal fear!

I listened to that video on YT with the trucker and the sounds are exactly the same as we hear on this video!! Also, check out Thinker Thunker and how he proves the sounds the trucker heard were not wolves. Very interesting indeed!! As for me, I am a believer and in my opinion no other animal or man could make such a sound! 👣

Rebecca's story was absolutely terrifying! I always love hearing stories like that from our elders ❤ I believe every single thing they say..I feel sad that she sold her horses and became so traumatized 😢 I'd be the same way if I experienced that!!
