terribly underrated part of any pedalboard! you can do sooooo much with a good eq pedal
@TheToneLounge Жыл бұрын
Right? I think the main issue is that we guitarists know a lot about tone, but not so much about how to get the tone we want. EQ pedals can look daunting, and if you don't know what you are doing, there are many ways to mess up your core tone.

@ramencurry667229 күн бұрын
That’s true an EQ pedal can make a big difference. I live by them like so many other pros. However some boost pedals can act like an EQ and give certain needed higher frequencies

Jonathan the Vox sounded HUGE with the bass-cut/clean boost! Thank you for a great demonstration of the infinite possibilities a good EQ pedal brings! I have a Boss GE-7 with swapped op-amps for noise which I use up front. I have an old Rane ME30B in the FX loop as a set-and-forget addition to the tone stack. Most EQ pedals sit well in the loop too. Great job! 🎸🎸🎸

I've watched several videos like these but none of these really convinced me of buying an eq pedal because I like my Strat tone... But I never considered the attenuation concept because I really hate to roll back the volume on my guitar because of the loss of dynamics, and volume pedals are pretty much the same. Tip #9 got my attention too... But you definitely got me when you paired ithe eq with the Big Muff! It sounds so freaking cool! Now I have to find the righ one that fits in my pedalboard!

Cutting the 4k frequency does wonders with modelers and some preamp pedals. How much depends on the amp modeled and the modeling device or software itself. It removes a good amount of rather unpleasant fizz.

Winner tip is #7 for me. I still don't understand how that happened. Next one is #5 because i never thought i could use an eq that way. But a very well thought out video and very usefull. Do you think a 10 band eq gives you more accuracy than a say 5 band eq ie is more versatile or a simpler eq would get the job done too? Too many parameters is not always an advantage for me....
@nikman5300 Жыл бұрын
@@Atilio8MC I'm sorry i'm not well versed into this but if i grasped this correctly you mean that a parametric eq is used for adjusting certain frequencies whereas graphic eq is a more drastic pedal allowing to cut out a certain frequency altogether but you cannot achieve the fine adjustments of a parametric eq.
@nikman5300 Жыл бұрын
@@Atilio8MC much obliged, thanks
@TheToneLounge Жыл бұрын
It depends what you need. Companies target a certain frequency range when it comes to EQ, ones that they think are the most useful/pleasing. 10 band EQs are very versatile and can obviously achieve more tones. That being said, a BOSS GE-7 works flawlessly too.

Any EQ pushed will bring up whatever noise it picks up. This being said, if EQ is not going to play an integral part of your rig then this is a good choice. If it is pretty important, I would go with the MXR. Cheers

Buyong an EQ pedal can feel like buying a Tuner - NO FUN, but ultilitarian. An obligation, of sorts that you keep pushing aside for more fun pedals . I finally made it a firm priority, paid more than I wanted to, etc. The thing is, they are FUN. Looking for interesting tones - Tons of em'. Heck, you can even make your electric sound more like an acoustic, combine with pedals to make them sound like that next "must have", or next "curiosity. I found my EQ to be that "ALWAYS ON" pedal w/ minor adjustments that dramatically improve your amps tone. Ypu should look at the chanel strip on your amp as sacred. Dialed in and left alone. Add an EQ and trim your tone to taste, to make that guitar and amp sing . Minor tweaks yield dramatic changes that improve your tone w.out taking away the elements you find desireable. That's how I use mine and it's become a pedal I don't want tiurned off. As you csan see from the vid. There's far more thar can be done w/ one of these beyond the "ALWAYS ON" route. I love Treble Booster's, just as much and the EQ example sounds REALLY GREAT as a "faux"! Take notes on these settings, and mess with them to your taste. Plenty of surprises to be found, and a whole lot fun of to be had finding them too. Enjoy the journey, and keep on playing guys!

I think that an EQ, compressor and tuner seem like boring purchase, but they are so essential in many ways. Were I to play Live again, I would definitely have all three on my board.
