Overly Sarcastic Productions actually did a very interesting analysis of their relationship this season…in short throughout season 4 they’ve both been actively of passively pushing everyone away to the point where now…they both effectively have nothing…and with nothing better to do, they start to bond over that.

The dinner scene shows exactly who Horde Prime is as a person so well. He is in complete control of everything that is happening around him and is capable of calling Catra's bluff without any issues while also gloating about the planets he's destroyed. He really managed to become by far the most terrifying villain of the show in just one episode where we see who he truly is.

Something I like about Hordak Prime is how his flagship and empire are all focused on/glorify him. Soldiers? Copies of him. Colors? His colors are sickly green, white and black There’s no room for anything or anyone else, contrasted with the rainbow of etheria and the princesses.

As much as Hordak wanted to prove himself to Prime, the color schemes are a great way of proving visually that their ideas of what that meant were drastically different

I like how Catra tries to fall back into her normal routine, buttering up the person in charge so she can find a way to advance herself, and it just does not work with Prime. Catra hit rock bottom at the end of S4, she's already emotionally vulnerable, and she wants to rebuild those walls. But Prime doesn't let her. She is still at the bottom, still vulnerable. And that's important for her character in this moment.

Old Fogey time: Horde Prime was mentioned in the original She-ra and He-man cartoons but almost never appeared, and never had an actual physical appearance *mostly*, the christmas special kind of had a reveal of him but not really. He was just this "bigger bad" that existed as a far away threat to explain why the main villains of these two different shows taking place on different planets would ever work together. Funny enough the version of Horde Prime showing up in He-man revelations is sort of a hybrid of that Horde Prime and this one, in some thematic senses, giving the character more of a real presence and actual threat to the heroes. I also want to say this is a real moment for Catra, the *I just wanted to conquer the world and be in charge because that's what I was raised to believe was the only way to make everyone respect me...and other issues* kind of classic villain is now face to face with a much bigger more genocidal ideological threat, Saturday morning cartoon villain frenemy forced to see what a real ideology based dictator is like.

I wonder if some of the show staff were fans. Here are two other Voyager comparisons I could think of. Horde Prime has sensors that can record your heart rate and detect pupil dilation. In the season one episode Cathexis, we learn that Janeway had the ship's sensors constantly recording the brain waves of her crew. Light Hope had an army of holographic spiders. In the one Captain Proton episode Janeway took on the role of Arachnia queen of the spider people.

I think the "I see all, I know all," is just psychological intimidation. Just a way to impress fear on others, and reinforce how pointless it is to resist. After all, if your enemy is sure they'll lose, you barely have to fight them. It's also a common religious trope, that gods will see and judge you, so better walk the line.

Not quite on the Perfuma bit. I think it's been confirmed that the person who did her visual design had the idea in mind, but it was never communicated whilst the show was ongoing. So essentially Perfuma being trans-coded could be argued, or that a popular headcanon is she is trans. But she doesn't really count as a canonically trans character.

Sea Hawk, meanwhile, decides to set his boat on fire as he travels to the Undying Lands. A frustrated Mermista has to get them both the rest of the way on the back of a magical narwhal named Skippy, who delights in sea shanties even if he can't carry a tune.

The thing is, She-Ra's not necessarily Etherian, because as Madame Razz said: "She-Ra is not the sword. She-Ra is you!" & Adora is Eternian, not Etherian. She's the stolen princess of Eternia (and also, the twin sister of Prince Adam aka He-Man, even if "The Most Powerful Man of the Universe" can't legally show up in this particular reboot). Even Mara, the preceding She-Ra, isn't completely Etherian, because she, too, like Adora, is a descendant of the First Ones.
