I don't know exactly why these pauses became so popular among TV presenters, but Ed is certainly on to something. I watched a quiz show and the pause "And the answer is"...and the answer was a full 10 seconds. Do that for 20 questions through the show, and you same a lot of TV time and money. The other trick is, getting to "And the answer is"...short pause..."Right after this break". insert 3 minutes of ads, come back to a review of what happened, and after about 5 minutes, we get the answer, that is, if you havent told the TV to bugger off and changed channel.
