That P-47’s idling R-2800 radial in the foreground sure sounded good. 😅. I miss Rare Bear and the old days with Steve Sr. piloting the Super Corsair!

For those who haven't been to the Reno Air Races, they do go much faster there. You actually hear transonic bumps and the props chew the air into little pieces. You must go!

Gear Whine I went too the air races in 2013 when I was in 7th grade. I was obsessed with WW2 aircraft at the time, and I absolutely loved the air races. Didn’t get too see the Unlimited Gold

It's over folks. It costs way more to field an unlimited air racer than the prize money can pay. All the best planes have been withdrawn and may never race again. Wonder that it went on so long. The field this year was with 2nd tier planes that may have not got to the gold race before. Other classes of racers may survive a much smaller show with limited interest. It was a glorious event in the good old days!

No, unfortunately Bob Button retired from racing after last year and donated the plane to the Planes of Fame air museum. They will continue to fly her, and possibly go for another speed record attempt in the future, but as for racing at Reno, I'm not sure.

michael touse Strega was just there for the airshow, she’s still owned by Tiger. Tiger hasn’t said that she’s done yet, so we’ll have to see!!
