An interesting journey, thank you for bringing us along! I have to say that I am continually impressed with how good the food looks and how reasonable the prices are in all your travel videos. Here in the US, food at/in train or bus stations is usually pretty awful and very expensive.
@TheZenomeProject2 жыл бұрын
What usually happens is that successful mom-and-pop businesses in a certain city like to have a main location (aka. the "honten" in Japanese) and another location closer to the city's station so that travelers can have access to the regional dishes just by stopping by on a train connection. It's the same logic as having the omiyage shops (aka. a regional food-based gift shop) right as you're entering the main hall of the train station.
@robbiemer81782 жыл бұрын
@@TheZenomeProject Thanks for explaining that! It's cool that folks have some local pride and that is reflected in how they organize stuff.
@elissitdesign2 жыл бұрын
That’s because busy cities are Liberal run which drives the cost up of everything. Until the US population starts voting for their best interest the problem will continue. Regional inflation. Japan is conservative in most aspects.
@TheZenomeProject2 жыл бұрын
@@elissitdesign Even though I don't disagree with you about how American cities are poorly run, almost universally in the left-wing bent, I know that others on here are going to be way more touchy about the politics, so I personally prefer to tone down the rhetoric outside of actual Political KZbin. It is incredibly true, though, that Japanese cities have a certain business-friendly attitude and value system that supports the mom-and-pop business in a way that American cities completely fail at.
@annie_xo Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, here in Sweden you only find boring chain restaurants/cafes and shitty fast food at train stations, airports etc, and it’s always ridiculously overpriced. It seems nice to be able to get some good food while traveling.

What a fascinating adventure! 🙂 There's one thing, though [which doesn't just apply to this video but to your travels in general]: when you give a reference time (as at 17:20) for making the same journey by high-speed rail, (just 2 hrs 30 mins by Shinkansen), it would help if you reminded us of how long the journey is going to take by ordinary rail. I find it difficult to remember and add up all of the short station-to-station stop-start times in order to get a direct comparison between the fast🐇and slower🐢 options. I appreciate that you always give a full summary at the end of your videos, but it'd be nice if we had both times (fast and slow) mid-journey so that we could compare things directly, instead of waiting until the end. Thanks for taking us with you on this slo-o-o-o-ow journey, Mr Solo Tortoise Japan! 🐢😁

Although there is only one line connecting Tokyo to Hiroshima, the operating company changes twice along the way. It is interesting to note that the station design, etc. changes with each operating company. From Tokyo to Atami, the trains are operated by JR East whose corporate color is green, from Atami to Maibara by JR Central whose corporate color is orange, and from Maibara to Hiroshima by JR West whose corporate color is blue. The differences in corporate colors can be clearly seen in the livery of the trains and the station name signs.
