Along with technology, rap/hip-hop has really lowered the standards of what it means to be a contemporary musician in 2017. It's sad. There is no question that the standards were way higher in the 70s and 80s. After all, there was no auto-tune or sampling techniques to help you cheat (yes I consider sampling cheating). You had to have great command of your musical instrument and/or a great voice, and/or solid songwriting abilities, and/or good relative pitch or perfect pitch, before anyone would let you into a studio to make music for a living. As a result, the only people in studios making music for a living were real musicians - regardless of genre. . the songs were so full of love and joy, and everyone was welcome. Nobody was "insulting" or "threatening" anyone else in their music - unlike we see in rap/hip-hop today.
