For me, I would use a left hand drill bit. When it grabs it backs the screw right out. Has saved my derrière in many an area. Bad screws, broken bolts… being outside, I would invest in stainless steel screws. For poops and giggles, on an outside light, I took it down, and then reattached it with a piece of white plastic fascia material. Kept the water off the light fixture, until the area was rebuilt and it became waterproofed and enclosed.. just thoughts. Enjoy visiting , getting ideas for projects from you.

hi there i do have a set of left hand drill bits and use them alot just for that but didn't see the need .it was a 1/8 or smaller screw but harden ,took the 2 drills right out , did replace it with ss 1/4 bolt , john

Being a 75 year old I don't climb up on anything unless I can use my hands to help, I also use handrails every chance I get unlike my youthful goat-like tendencies. Back then it didn't hurt that bad to fall but now it'd probably kill me or break something. Easy does it John, I think you've learned that lesson too judging by you never seem to be in a hurry. I remember reading in the Saturday Evening Post many long years ago an old German saying "the hurrider I go the behinder I get".
