This is one of the best compare/contrast videos I've seen. Great job!

Unlock is great to play as a family game as people find cards and do simple maths in an intuitive way. Even the youngest can just drive the app and punch in codes. I'd recommend unlock for families, exit for a couple.

I'm hooked on the real world rooms after being hooked on the phone apps. I have one Escape Room game that I haven't got the family to tackle yet. I can see these in our future.

Thank you for your talk through! As you like the experience, I think you will also like "Escape the Room" and "Escape Room: the Game" board games. Can't wait to hear your final thoughts on these.

"really? seriously? that was cheap." was our reaction to the last puzzle in Squeek. it made us want to try a different series instead of buying another unlock game.

So far, I've really enjoyed the Exit games. I've only played the demo of Unlock since it hasn't released here yet. I definitely agree that both lines of games will be really fun and worth adding to the collection even though there won't be much replay value. I don't feel bad about that because the game is really cheap for the experience.

Love this games! Thank you for your review rahdo. When I am finished with unlock! I will do the same and pass it to someone else, I think it is a great idea of Elaine and Efka!

Hello Rahdo. I'm a middle school teacher, and I teach one class that is fun, so I chose teaching an escape room themed class. We've been going through digital escape rooms. I'm looking for something the class can do that's not digital. Do you know if the Exit games can be reused? You mentioned that some have figured out how to reuse the game.

oh the only way you could reuse an EXIT game would basically be to photocopy things as you go and destroy the photocopied elements. but there are other escape room board games that are totally reusable, most notably the Unlock series :)

Are board games getting like movies ? one year two volcano movies, the next year two Vietnam War movies etc ? Can't you just scan the parts of the Exit game which are destruct-able and print them out on your colour printer to make the game unsullied / salable / reusable ?

One thing that slightly bothers me about Unlock is that it so strongly relies on the app you may start asking yourself why doesn't it ditch the cards completely and exists just as a digital app. When you get town to it, cards add very little mechanically (aside from them being physical components) and the game would work just as well if the cards were clickable in-game locations and items. But of course, if you move everything to the digital domain, what you get is just yet another escape room digital game of which there are literally thousands out there. EXIT in my opinion leverages the fact you are dealing with physical components far better. Yes, you are destroying stuff, but you are also physically manipulating it, which, well, is the advantage of having something physical instead of digital. Adding app reliance is a slippery slope and an exercise in moderation, which Unlock! admittedly does achieve at, but (IMO) only barely.

"Real" escape rooms count down to zero as well. So that;s why Unlock for me has a better drive.

I was thinking about something similar to that. For some people, it isn't about just finishing a bunch of puzzles. It's about finishing to beat the clock. This makes sense for when a bomb explodes or maybe when a fire is approaching...etc. This kind of failure could be what encourages people to play again. They should try to see if they fully understand the puzzles, as opposed to just finishing due to a misunderstanding.

But as a bonus, Unlock doesn't kick you out of the room.

I've frequently heard players say these escape room games are possibly best with 2. Which of these 2 series would be better with a group of 4 or 6?
@rahdo
@rahdo 7 жыл бұрын
hmm, that's a tough one. i don't think any of them would work well with 6. i think the unlock games might be be better with 4 as all the items are on different cards, so things can be handed around more readily?

Could you do a review of 'Adventure Games', the newest escape room type game? Would be interesting to see a comparison. ty

Man... I was so disappointed with the Unlock! games. I'm not sure if we're just idiots or the app isn't that well done but there were a bunch of parts that my fiance and I were like "WHAT?!?!?! HOOWWWWWW???"

Yes, i see that now. Both the Escape: The Room and Escape Room: The Game series officially start at 3 players. However, BGG users state/vote that they play very well as 2 player (Escape: The Room even plays best as 2). This is merely an FYI since you seem to enjoy these types of games.
