this is so funny to see this pop up in my reccomendations because a month earlier I modded the doom 3 to run on my 4K HDR display, but I play on locked 60 fps, the unlocked framerate messes up wit the physics and also how the enemies move, because the framerate is somehow tied to the enemy behaviour. But I do not use the dhewm3 source port, I jut want the original vanilla experience and its possible, just not with unlocked 60 fps cap unfortunately, but I beat the game like that and it was mind blowing how the engine scales on current hw, the game looks stunning at times, aged gracefullly.

I highly recommend trying this method I outline here. Yes, the vanilla DOOM 3 engine's tick rate is tied to the FPS. With an engine limit of 62. The Dhewm3 1.5.2 Source Port and the FPS Patch decouples the engine tick-rate from the FPS. So you can play at a nice smooth 120 FPS. I also highly recommend the REDUX mod I show here. It slightly updates the textures. It's really nice and it does it without taking away from the original intended look and feel of DOOM 3.

*Should mention that those who want to run uncapped ReDUX mod without having to start Dhewm3 first all they have to do is this:* Make a Doom3.exe shortcut and link it to autoload the mod, then just change the Doom3.exe to Dhewm3.exe and that's it. Should look something like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOOM 3\dhewm3.exe" +set fs_game redux

Thanks a lot ! Very helpful. I could install everything and globally it works fine. Something weird, i noticed some FPS drops with blue lights effects, and more drops if i use the torch light. I have a RTX 3070 laptop and the game runs at 144 FPS. Any idea to solve this issue ?

Unfortunately I don't. This isn't an issue I've encountered or heard of. I'm not entirely sure what might be causing that to happen.

I have doom 3 on my pc on the xbox pc and i have a 3060Ti and this game doesnt stay at 120fps for some reason??? will this fix it?? my graphics card and cpu is over spec for this game but this game runs like bad for some reason

DOOM 3 can't run past 62 FPS on xBox, and for PC did you follow everything in guide here? What is your monitors native refresh rate? Only other thing I can suggest is making sure vSync is off in the nVidia control panel. You could have background tasks on your PC that are taking up resources. Hard to say. I don't know your setup.

Is it possible to get Doom 3 working at high framerates like that, but without Doom 3 Redux? I didn't really like that mod, and I want the 100% vanilla experience, just with fps higher than 60. I followed the instructions without installing Redux but that didn't work.

So you can play DOOM 3 with just the FPS patch and the 1.5.2 source port. You don't need REDUX. The other two are a hard requirement. The source port IS the Vanilla DOOM 3 experience, and you 'can' go higher than 120 FPS/Hz however your mileage may very. If you decide to try 240, or 360 I strongly recommend keeping the engine vSync enabled by setting seta r_swapInterval "1" in the auto exe of the Dhewm3 source port. When you launch the 1.5.2 source port with the FPS patch make sure you are using the correct syntax as I outline in the video. It is case sensitive, and you have to restart the game for the new FPS number to take effect.

@@Shvok For some weird reason, keeping "seta r_swapinterval" at 1 was lowering my performance significantly. Keeping it at 0 solved the framerate drop, now this is buttery smooth, I can use the Steam Overlay and also Alt + Tab in and out of the game at will! I'm hearing game sound effects and NPC chatter in the background as I type this out. I followed every step in the video, but ignored everything related to Doom 3 Redux, and it still works. Also took me a while to realize the autoexec from Dhewm3 was located in My Documents, not the game folder, so my changes weren't happening until I figured that out. This works, thanks a lot!

@@foxferreira Welcome. I'm not sure what's up with swapinterval lowering performance like that. If I set it to 240fps and swap to 1 it stays at 240. The only difference between me and what you said seems to be the steam overlay. I have that disabled for all games. Maybe try that? I'm not sure. If keeping at 0 works then that's good too
