NO, THEY DON'T. After the latest update (today it's August the 13th). We are at square one again. I've a similar type of dock like the one shown in the video image (branded Foison) and the 30w mode and HDMI, that worked before, are now NOT WORKING ANYMORE. It could be my dock that failed but I am more included to think that it's the update.

Now we need to see if that Oculink connector they used for their proprietary USB-C+Oculink, can be used by itself with a 3rd party e-GPU, say a 6800XT, or even a desktop 4080 in a cheap ~$200 eGPU enclosure, would be both cheaper, and much faster than the Asus eGPU, which i beleive is $2000 for a 4080 that is limited to something like 150w, yet still named 4090

The fun part is that it was already working... if you see the changelog, it's marked as "UX"... basically, it was just a visual bug, since before the update, when you enabled 25W turbo with 65W+ power input (dock or charger), it would still turbo all the way with 30W stable and turboing to 53W as much as it can.

@@matthewfghjkl The original charger can't handle a hub + turbo 30W... The hub consume 5-15W (depending on model), so you end up with less than 65W. Not even with the new bios you would be able to enable 30W turbo. There is a reason I put "65W+" and not "65W"... you need over 65W.

As I was considering the dual fan dock but got the giant 17 inch plus Thermaltake RGB cooling pad with dual fans to put the best reviewed non fan dock on instead. The light show gets annoying foe me but the fans work really well, but the main downside is it's clunky and on the bigger side. Since my Ally already overheated and needed a stay with the Geek Squad and full OS reinstall, I'm not going to push any limits. Thanks!

There is marginally better performance from 25 to 30 TDP on most games so it's not worth it. You might damage the sdcard reader and get your device extremely hot for just a few extra FPS. Probably around 3 extra FPS. I want this to be tested in a video and then the recommendations.

Ok what the hell... My Rog Ally is fully updated and mine does NOT work like this with docks! When I use the OEM 65W charger with multiple different "65W capable" docks, even some of the exact same docks you showed here, it will NOT send 65W to the Ally and it pops up a warning about not getting enough power for proper charging and limits the TDP!

@@adiel5456 The answer is simple. There is a design flaw with the SD card slot, and in order to prevent micro sd cards from failing due to heat, the fan curves must have that setup. Even if you don't use any micro sd card and if you think you know better to set it up manually yourself, this is for a greater good. We will need a Rog Ally 2, or a revision, to make this go away.

FYI, What I do on my A1Pro is to max out the TDP and Limit CPU clock (at least not letting go to 4.x turbo) to about 3.5Ghz, and that allows the GPU to go a bit higher in clock. Works well for Forza Horizon and of course many others non-CPU heavy ones.

I am using the dock from asus rog ally and when I click on only show on the external monitor on the AMD software the freesync says is not supported even if I am using the original dock plus an active converter from hdmi to dp. It goes up to 120 fps at 1440p and my monitor does support freesync. I don’t know why it doesn’t support freesync. I have tried hdmi and dp 4K and not supported is the result. Could you take a look into it please?

@@1artillery1 Nope, I ended up returning it to Amazon. I now have the official ROG adapter/plug. I tried six docks in total and only the official ROG adapter and the dock for Steam Deck worked.

Thanks for all the great Ally vids ETA PRIME. Jsaux dock + 100w USB-C GaN charger + 100w USB-C cable unlocked the 30w for me. What do you think about the reported 28w TDP limit for the chip as reported by CPU-Z? I've got it set there on a manual for SPL, SPPT and FPPT just now. Only really tested with Darksiders 3 with 4gb VRAM 720p medium/high settings which seems to be running nice and cool with fluctuating FPS up to 60fps but keeping cool at 56C. Game might just generally be poorly optimised tbh. What would be your take on raising the SPPT and FPPT?

I need the USB hub to play in handheld mode with the charger. I think that only works with the original Asus hub with an USB A port. That docks are way to big to play in handheld mode. I need a small USB hub.

You need a 100 watt wall block because the dock pulls some the power that's why it won't work. Also make sure you use a 110 watt charge cord.

Hey prime, brother can you explain to me why my ally which is up to date, I only changed the ssd to a 2tb ssd, and when I run benchmarks the 15watt setting and the second setting cpu runs in the high 4000mhz , and on turbo, and my custom profile with a decent fan curve only stays in the 3000mhz range? Can anyone answer that? Shouldn't the turbo setting plugged in be running at 4500mhz , my ally only hits those speeds on the two lowest settings. And I debloated windows all that stuff. Everyone can make fun of me but my favorite pc game still to this day is "world in conflict " it's a old dx9 and dx10 rts game, and I would love to see what eta prime could run the built in benchmark and get it over an avg of like31fps a low of like 2fps. The game is like 10 years old, it should run easily on thr ally . If anyone can figure out what im doing wrong please help me. And I'm a retired computer engineer. But that is not helping at all other then some accessory things I may make or buy. The screen is great but my vision must be getting terrible because I think I need that big magnifying glass we used to have for the Nintendo gameboy lol

When you run Turbo you are using lower TDP limits than what the manual setting allows in this video. Turbo allows the GPU to clock up and it may pull power back from the CPU to support this. TDP is not a direct relation to clock speed, but rather a total power usage of the entire APU chipset. Also, the system ramps fans slowly in the preset modes and your clock rates may drop until the system balances itself thermally. When running in Manual mode like in ETA's video, when you set manual fan curves it can ramp fan speeds much more quickly and you can prevent thermal throttling.

@TheDevonParker , thank you for the reply, but no I totally understand that.but it's not thermal throttling at all. So it could be just the benchmarks but run the rog version of cpuz and benchmark the cpu only. You will get 200pts higher on the single core score using the first 2 profiles and then when you use turbo or my custom profile which I have a excellent fan curve it's not even near thermal throttling, turbo and custom score like 400-500pts, and the silent mode and low power mode scores over 600 lol I know it could be the cpuz benchmark but when you watch the numbers you see at silent and windows or whatever thr first 2 settings are during the cpu single core and multi core, the cpu ramps up to like 4500mhz which is why it's scoring like 680 or something and you run the same benchmark right afterwards with the turbo profile or a manual profile and the cpu will only go up to like 3200mhz and so it only scores 460pts or something. The % on the cpu goes up to 99% I'm pretty sure , the gpu isn't doing anything during the bench. Which is why I don't get why in turbo mode with no thermal throttling does the cpu not go over like 3.2ghz or something close. It's as if they have it setup so in turbo mode , even in a cpu only benchmark , they have the cpu downclocked. If the gpu was being used also it would make total sense but it's not. I'm wondering if they purposely nerfed the cpu in turbo mode because of the micro SD card issue with heat, which I've never had a heat issue with my system. I brought up the game " world in conflict because it's a dx9 game and you can enable dx10. And it has a built in benchmark and it literally can't run it at all. Even lowering it to 720p etc you'll get maybe A avg of 30fps but a low of 1fps , you can see during the benchmark the cpu boosting for a couple seconds and then it will hit 90fps and then drop to 1 and 2 fps and stay there (with temps totally fine) That's why asked ETA prime if he could atleast tell me how can this system run call of duty etc but can't run a dx9 game from over 10 years ago. And all the amd special settings etc are all dx9 limited if you look into what each does etc. I dont expect you to download world in conflict to run benchmarks lol (I still say it's a awesome game) but can you run rogs own version of cpuz and see if you score in the high 600's wirh the first two low power settings and only 400's wirh turbo, or I'd really be interested in what manual score it gives you on the single core test and multi core. I was thinking maybe lowering the middle boost settings. I forget what it's called but in manual you know you have the 3 settings you could max out, and then I set my fan curve starting at 30 degrees and I'm at 100 at 60degrees and I've never seen it have heat issues. Not yet atleast, but im running neo geo games etc so it's not gonna really test the cpu, which is why I can't figure out why it can't run a 10 year old game at 720p I even dropped it down to medium settings. Tried every gpu memory profile, but the game is heavy on the cpu. My ryzen 9 7950X3D scores like 500fps on the benchmark at 4k lol 😆

@@AJerseyJohnnyEntertainment So I noticed this specific throttling behavior on mine when turbo is first turned on: Turbo on > clocks jump up for a few seconds > thermal throttle CPU as GPU starts working hard > fans slowly spool up > system stays at high temp until heat pipes are heat soaked and fans remove thermal energy > temps go down and clocks come back up, system maintains temp from this point on. In my opinion it's a fan tuning issue and because ASUS is targeting a max sound profile instead of letting the fans ramp up high in turbo mode. Turbo mode only allows fans to run at 2/3rds their maximum speed. The other side of this is the poor battery size, and I'm pretty sure they don't want aggressive fans because they would eat into an already weak battery life. On another note I'm not sure if Turbo mode allows the FPPT boost. My next manual profile is likely going to max out the base wattage at 30W and turn off both boosts to experiment with battery life.

@TheDevonParker I agree 10000% that's what I'm seeing. I've put my fans at 100% just doing testing and I can't even hear them. So I really think it needs a bios update or something that will allow the fans to run as fast as possible regardless of the sound. Atleast make it optional. The speakers on the ally are great from what I've experienced. And I would rather have fans that can cool the best they can and I can just throw in ear buds. I could be totally wrong, but I think even at 100% the fans aren't spinning as fast as they probably can. Because they are small fans and I should be hearing them wine or ramp up. It's just what small fans do, they make noise. They have done well making them as quiet as possible but it just feels like they arent that powerful. I honestly always play plugged in , mostly on my couch, I haven't been playing it outside by my pool or anything lol my.couch is my favorite place to use my ally. I will say using xcloud with my xbox series x is amazing on thr ally in my house on my home network The ally plays every game awesomely at 1080p. Well I don't know if xcloud is upscaled 1080p or not but whatever it's streaming at, the ally screen does a great job displaying it at 1080p. I wish it was a OLED, but the screen is great compared to my steam deck which I haven't touched since getting the ally. There's some really good looking new windows handhelds coming out, then my ally will go into the drawer with all the other toys I dont use at all lol

My question is, if I attach a wired keyboard and mouse to the dock also, will the ally have enough power left to go turbo mode or full manual? Hi Eta, I want to buy an Asus ROG Ally just to do emulation until the PS2/OG XBOX/NGC/Wii generation, no need to emulate HD consoles for me because I have a huge collection of Wii U/PS3/XBOX360/PS4/PS5/Switch games. I want to know if this device will handle that at least at a solid 1080P 60 FPS ? (I don't really care about 4K/120 FPS,) Also, do I have to do some special settings for that, like enabling 30w mod ? And finaly do you think it's better to install the emulator's on the desktop or do you advise me to install something like LunchBox for exemple Sorry for those noob question, I'm not an expert at all. How do u connect K/B and Mouse with just ONLY USB port on the official ROG Dock Charger? I need 2 USB ports and I tried daisy chain a HUB to the Dock charger but ROG Ally doesn’t recognize it. My UGREEN GAN chargers are detected to deliver 30 watts including my UGREEN 145 watts power back. Directly connected and even using my 11-in-1 Multi-Function USB-C Docking Station HB1101. I can also get the max refresh rate on this dock plug in my ASUS ROG 240hz monitor.

I bought the JSAUX M.2 Docking Station 6-in-1 and updated my Ally to the latest Bios. When plugged in, I still only get a max of 25W Turbo and 35W max FPPT. What am I doing wrong?

have the 323 BIOS, 2 port extenders, the brand new 7-in-1 even mention "works with 100W PD" but the Ally is not going to the higher settings. I also get some pop up saying "current adapter may result in insufficient power" and "use the included ROG adapter". Have 3 official Asus ROG adapters, one upto 100W. A simple hub however does now work after the BIOS upgrade, showing the 30W and all upto 53W in Manual mode Looks like not all hubs will work

the iVANKY dock doesn't work and is SUPER flaky even on BIOS 323 - constantly disconnects and reconnects, and does not enable 30W turbo with the ROG 65W charger.

It didn't fix mine. Im using the jsaux m.2 ssd slot dock, and it still says 25w max. I checked the apu wattage with the real-time monitor, and docked 25w is the same as my 30w, but it's still annoying that it says 25w. I bought a 100w charger to see if that'll fix it.

None of the charger bricks I am trying to use work. The one sold with the ALLY does NOT enable full wattage, I have tried MACBOOK Pro 87W and no good.

Did anyone notice the bypass charging doesn't work with 3.rd party docks? I had an issue and it was suspicious, however I couldn't find an answer. Later I read a message from asus the 3.rd party docks doesn't activate bypass charging.

323 bios lowered my Batman AK benches from 72fps on 317 bios to 54fps on 323. These latest bios have given me the worst performance of them all. I downgraded back to 317 and just don’t use the SD card slot

@@Rikukeyblade101 use higher wattage charger. I bought a anker 100w charger Original charger is only 65w, so the dock, and any accessories connected will drain that so ur not really getting 65w. 100w will make sure your getting full power to every port and full power to the ally

I have the Jsaux dock with the new 323 bios update but I am unable to get the ally into 30W mode while docked. I have tried changing the settings and power cable but nothing seems to work like in this video. Any suggestions?
