I went from 33-45FPs on a RTX 4050 and these tweaks got me to 90-95 FPS running smoothly. You’re awesome dude I was losing my head with this game 😅

i am running your settings on a Lenovo legion go with the onexgpu an egpu. before setting it up, it did run catastrophically and looked like a ps3 game at 1080p with 50% dynamic resolution. it was like 10fps and stuttering like crazy on the lowest settings. now it runs at 25 to 30fps without stutters at 1440p medium high with all important settings on to look as good as possible and im really happy with the results. i kinda find it a bummer that the devs left this out and made such a badly optimized game. still i only play it because i played it since abberation came out and have to play it on pc because console controls suck and there are far better custom servers out than on console. the game looks way less natural, but the trade off is woth it. thanks for sharing you saved me big time.

Thank you so much for this amazing guide. I have a gtx 1080, I know old card, but it still runs the game. I am happy the way the game looks and I get decent fps considering. In non-forest areas and inside my house I get up to 60-70fps at times, but of course in the thick jungle more like between 28-40fps, which is okay for me. I use some medium and high settings. In my experience if went to low completely I actually get worst performance overall then if I leave a few settings medium/high. But thanks to your new codes I have got an extra 10fps roughly, and the game is way more stable, no huge fps drops. Thanks man!

Have you discovered how to improve clouds quality without pixelating and flickering? Yeah, without clouds is ok, but with them is even better, lol, if they were how on your pictures. Pixelating is mostly noticeable on dark clouds

@@milordas Sounds about right. IF the 50 fps is lowest drop, then yes! I had troubles having it stable - out in the fields I had great fps (80-90+) but when in base, where are a lot of dinos around and lights and stuff, the fps was terrible. And as I spend a lot of time in base, that was hurting my gameplay experience a lot :D

Should be close to the fps, but also if developers have done anything with performance (not always goes the way they want), that might impact the outcome. I have AMD Ryzen 5600 (default AMD automatic overclocking - nothing major from default).

Hmm sounds weird, haven't seen this, but how I went troubleshooting this was one by one changing commands from 0 to 1 to see if that fixes it (for troubleshooting you can do that in game with console (~) command to see immediate effect and let us know if you find the solution!

Hmm, that's about the same specs I have, but as per other comments, I hear some of the latest patches have changed something and it seems getting unstable. Not ideal, but to troubleshoot the problem you can change the values from 0 to 1 (OFF and ON) to see which of them causes the trouble? Or second method - remove entries from the engine.ini file, enter the game as normal, and then through command (~) enter those values one by one to see which of them causes a crash (and also you will see immediate impact and how it looks), just remember to change = sign to space: r.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=0 becomes r.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod 0 when you enter it in the console! I hope that helps, if not

As far as I know, it is 40 series feature. Yes, there was a big fuss about 30 series card able to get FG with some unlocks, but it was a false positive. Games tend to spit out more frames, but other issues appeared as it was never going to work. Just checked the Reddit and yes, all of the 'working' is now edited to 'not working'. Below 40 series cards have only option to use DLSS from nVidia AND use AMD technology for frame generation. Ghost of Tsushima was the first game where it's possible - all by defaults, no hacky workarounds, just both technologies working, and there must be now even more games ;)

The game is known for bugging these settings out, but in your case 1070Ti card is GTX (not RTX) which means it is without Tensor Cores. Both of these technologies are processing heavy and require newer generation cards to access those options.

I play on the windows version and I’m having problems changing the settings. Every time I change something in the config file it doesn’t stay once I load up the game. Like when I turned up the resolution scale up to 100, when I loaded up the game it didn’t stay. Any help?

Hmm, there are more ini files in there, make sure you edit/use the right one. Secondly - before editing make sure in properties there is not checked 'Read Only' otherwise the settings are not saved at all. Third point - when you load the game if your changed (and saved) settings are not loaded immediately - that means the settings are not picked up/not right file (first point), but if they are loaded and you change something - it will overwrite your entered values in the ini file. Lastly - resolution scale I think was changed if you use DLSS settings, check if in the settings it's grayed out? I think I recall having the same problem but only later realized the option is grayed out (not used) because DLSS overwrites and scales from lower resolution and I was pulling my hair over the setting pointlessly :D

At the night the forrest usually looks like this when clouds are turned off for me. But interestingly r.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=1 This doesn't change anything if you leave 1 not 0 so I'm wondering if that should affect it at all?! I would not put illumination to high though, how does your FPS look like? Or you have 4090 and it runs with no problems? :D

Ok now my game looks horrendous. How do I undo these hidden settings? I deleted them from the engine.ini but it's still disgusting.

If you removed them they are not loaded anymore and shouldn't be present. Check if it's still there maybe, otherwise .ini files are "Initialization" files, that means specifying what to load, it's not anywhere else. Try changing graphic settings inside game that might overwrite and 'unstuck' the settings.

Just one addition, what gpu youre using? :) Ok, found it on 12-14 minute, but imo its should be in description. Imo the biggest issues in the game is clouds pixelating and flickering, and when you fly and get sundown or sunrise, leaves from high view is so flickering, that unable to fly in that time without hurting eyes. If lumen would fix it (will test that when i get to the game) that would be nice. As i tested leaves flickering could be more stable when you disable foliage interaction, but then we have a big problem with floating rocks, right? ;)

Added GPU in description as per request ;) Yes, on both counts you are right - there are limitations what can be done and I am also going for the non-flickering result, so you should be able to achieve that too! Removing clouds is a simple option, but I ended up at the end playing with them 'ON', if I recall. Haven't revisited the game for a while now..

Wow, that is more than even I've expected! :D You can try the game build in FPS counter! In the console (~) write: stat fps And that will show you the most precise. I don't like how it jiggles and updated 100 times a second, but with the same command you can remove it afterwards for smooth gameplay ;) Happy to help and happy hunting ;)

Hmm..shouldn't be like that, but you can lock the file making it Read Only under properties! But that also means - none of the settings you will change in the game will be saved.

Hey Mariss, great vid. I edited some settings within the file a little differently than yours. Not sure if you would know, but when creating a new character, the creation screen has this white hazy filter look all over. I'm satisfied with the FPS I get with the changes but any suggestions on that hazy look would be great!

Happy to help! And absolutely what I was hoping to hear - that taking my base is just the first step, then adjusting little here, little there as per your liking and vibe! Nice! For the character creation - it is hard to tell, I would need to delete mine to test, but the first things that come to mind: 1) The bloom effect usually makes everything hazy (and bright) and 2) console command r.VolumetricFog 0 might be the one (if that is the same used in the char creation. Otherwise I'd need to find a way how I can get back in to character creation screen to see it for myself :D

Now I am wondering, if others also are complaining about shimmering grass that wasn't there before, might be the case the game updates made redundant these lines? I'm just thinking out loud. Because one or 2 rows shouldn't make a difference, both option should work as per line input matters there.

Shouldn't be a problem - if ini file is not specifically made 'Read Only' then any changes in game should just adjust the file for next game sessions. One thing (why I don't like this :D) to keep in mind - in game Lumen enabling might changed/adjust more settings (seen in other games), so it's not clear cut it will change/adjust just 1 setting!

Minimum system requirements for the game says 1080 is good to go! And especially older cards will benefit when removing Lumen as it is crushing every GPU performance! I cannot guarantee it, but your GPU seems to be enough ;)

Kind of yes. Same commands can be written in the console to get the effect, but in this way you don't have to do that every time you entr the game - a bit more convenient way to get settings you want! And there are those 2 pesky commands that work ONLY from console :/ The cloud and fogs turning on or off commands.

Oh, you and me both! I went through all the internet where people try to solve this and applied about 20+ possible fixes (because there is no 1 solution that works for all) and I managed to reduce the crash count, but it is still unstable as hell :D My 'solution' at the moment is playing Medieval Dynasty (damn that is beautiful and stable game compared xD) until the bake this mess to a bit better state :D

So once applied the ini file, it sets the preset, after that - you can adjust and change in-game settings to further tailor them for your system and your preference! Whatever you will change in-game afterwards will be also updated in the file - it works both ways! You can change in the file and that will be on your next game launch, or once you are in game and you adjust something - that will be saved in the ini file. If that answers your question? The engine.ini file (with added extra lines) do NOT change as you don't have these settings available in the game.

So for light beam there was a comment: "you NEED to have Global Illumination setting at Medium or above" And try change this line (change 0 to 2): r.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=2 That will switch the light casting method from Lumen, but should be able to still cast lights. And grass flickering I think was DLSS doing, try adjusting that setting.

No, no - just one time! Once they are put into ini files they work as instructions every time the game is launched! Only thing I cannot find a way to squeeze in the file is r.VolumetricCloud 0 IF you still wish to remove clouds and prefer to play without them, then this command has to be launched every time when the game is started.

Should be exactly the same - it's 12'o'clock midday and keep an eye if clouds are 'on' or 'off' that's the biggest changer of the look!

Hmm, I'd say it is modified on the client side not the server side (no server can dictate what graphics settings player should have and/or overwrite them), so in your case (if you are on a PC, because as far as I know console players don't have those ini files available) you can/should modify these files individually by each player that joins the server.

I think the answer is yes and no. Consoles don't have such *.ini file to save these parameters, BUT there is an option to input the same commands! Downside is that for each session I believe you will have to enter them again. Oh, there are several settings that can boost FPS to the sky, BUT make game horrendous! :D Hard to tell without seeing which aspect is screwed - I recall ContactShadows was such setting :D Also you can try setting DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=2 If I recall it would not disable it but switch to non-lumen option, that should look good (enough) and not eat all your GPU resources. Other than that is a guessing game and/or tinkering one by one of those settings to see which messes up the graphics :D

I recently got a Radeon 6700XT and I assumed I could run at least medium settings cause my old 2060 ran low just fine. But I’m struggling with the optimization and I’m barely getting 60fps on low, I’m gonna try what you suggested when I get the chance though and I hope it works.

Yes, resolution hits a LOT, but running non-native (lower) resolution will make everything bad if not upscaled with FSR or DLSS :/ How did the framerates with this performance boost? I understand AMD cards do not benefit as much as nvidia cards, is this still the case?

Very stable, zero crashes! Asking the right questions here - before (with Lumen) fps drops and hiccups was ordinary thing, but once this is applied - even quality presets work very nice!

Lumen is the biggest problem of UE 5. This also happens with fortnite, Lumen looks amazing but crashes the game, low frame rates, etc.

Oh, didn't knew this about other games too! This is the problem with new improvements - they look amazing but are not optimized. We need to wait for next versions/optimizations to reliably use them. Like the first RTX looked good but none of the games was actually playable with stable/high frame rate :D

It's impossible to remove clouds from the *.ini file. I've tried everything and only from the console manually entering the line :/ Open console (~ for PC, for consoles there is an option in settings I think) and enter: r.volumetricCloud 0

In terms of framerate or the filter that overlays it by default? It's more of a preference, but the Lumen turning off seems to be too beneficial to the framerates to leave it running!

Although it was fine at first.. My lightning seems weird, the colors are way too saturated and kind is hurtful on the eyes, the Textures dont really load below epic and on epic it just Too slow, also the water doesn't move like with the command r.streaming.poolsize, sometimes Forest lightning flicker in darker and lichter green. I have no clue how this happened, tried reinstalling completly, verifying integrity, all setting and combinations but i Cant seem to fix it. It could be a command i prompted but i don't think so but my commands do get saved in my game even after restarting

Was just going to say that - after restart all console commands are back to default, so shouldn't be the case! I'm wondering if you changed/added engine.ini file with extra lines - you could disable/remove them one by one to see if that changes anything. I would still recommend to remove Lumen :D But other options might be screwing it up. If you don't have those lines - maybe try adding them?

Not entirely true - drop lights are hidden it you go with illumination quality low - that must be medium at all times! The illumination method changed the way it is 'drawn' but the light beams are there ;)

I wonder wht will be the performance, after applying FS3 frame generation...gotta test this out Edit : it's working quite well...got my rtx3060 laptop GPU to run this on above 90fps on low settings and 60-70ish on medium settings, all with frame generation on. Just getting the problem of shimmering leaves and foliage which is quite annoying...

I wonder if they have changed/updated anything as I don't recall that shimmering! r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=0 I believe this command was the one removing shimmering so shadows update once a hour, which now begs the question if the command is not working anymore?!

@@MLMariss I saw tht by changing global illumination method to 1 fixes the shimmering/flickering foliage bug....but it does costs me fps... U have got any other way?

@@jiteshsingh7329 Oh, that is the man culprit for bad FPS! Try changing it to 2 instead. 0 means disabled 1 = Lumen (beautiful but very GPU intense) 2 = oldscool lighting method

@@MLMariss changing it to 2 is again causing the flickering bug.. Not gonna lie playing with the reflections settings can really squeez a lot of fps put but one may end up with weird reflections bug in their world. I hope this game gets optimised more in the future

Yes, this is default - and leave everything as is (don't overwrite), but add those lines on top of it. This is main engine file that loads instructions how the engine is defined, so the provided lines add additional instructions to disabled Lumen, adjust shadows, change a bit Nanite values and such.
