Swapping from BTC on-chain to Liquid and then back from Liquid to BTC on-chain, am I "breaking" the traceability of BTC transactions? Could it be useful to gain a bit of privacy for bitcoin purchased with KYC?

It helps. But if you include a non-custodial lightning wallet and/or a personal lightning node would be way better. But depending on who you are and who’s following your steps, maybe you’d need more steps.

For me (using your sat values) that means the costs are; Start with £82.98 - £2.05 Base layer miner fee Then -£1.14 Swap fee into Liquid Which turns out to cost another 10p (236192) We are already at 4% reduction in funds Next some small tx to and from lightning, £0.15p / £0.05p and then back to Bitcoin ? and again back to a cold wallet via base layer. ? You'd need to be aware of all the fees and a specific use cast to use this.. ie lots of small tx on a daily basis, with a large initial swap into Liquid Privacy of the liquid network Ability to swap into tether if you think the market is on a short term downtrend.

I think the typical flow for a person would be: -Receive a payment or withdraw from an exchange via lightning, get the full amount minus a few hundred sats -Spend/use as you see fit with lightning/liquid payments -If your balance builds up, only then do you swap to on-chain and move to cold storage Conversely, if you held a lot of on-chain bitcoin and wanted to be nimble for daily transactions, you would send a comfortable lump sum to the wallet and swap, then use as you please. I agree that the send, followed by the swap is inconvenient as two transactions. I brought this up to devs and they are adding a feature where if you send to the wallet, you have the option for it to swap in a single transaction (aka your on-chain receive address is a swap address) They key is to minimize your on-chain footprint.

I like how Aqua wallet integrates LN with Liquid to avoid on-chain transaction fees, but I actually like RSK much better than Liquid and I use it much more often, so I'd like for Aqua wallet to add support for rootstock network as another second layer. I believe Boltz exchange is working on adding RSK, which I think it'd make it easy for that integration to happen.

I would have to think yes, you could probably skip buying USDT and just send to Aqua, swap to L-BTC, swap to BTC, and then send to a cold wallet.

send a small btc balance, swap to liquid/lightning - then use that to pay for the initial robosats fee, then place a market order there for you kyc free Bitcoin. (give them your receive addy from liquid, to go back into that wallet if you like)

I have always been a little uncomfortable with holding much money in lightning since the custody and non-custody solutions I find confusing, but holding it in liquid and moving into lightning easily seems like a great solution. What I understand about liquid it seems much more trustworthy, even though I understand that technically it’s custodial.

The probem ia that you can spend with fiat and a debit card for zero fees. This will never gain mass, or mainstream adoption as it is worse than the fiat experience, due to the fees.

Primarily as a nimble spending wallet. That's how I use it - for day to day transactions like I would with cash or a debit card. If it becomes a sizeable balance then I do exactly what you're suggesting - on chain or liquid held with hardware.

This morning I moved about 0.008 BTC to Aqua in an on-chain transaction for 1966 sats. I then set up a swap in Aqua for 0.00832122 to L-BTC and the fee is 18578 sats (2.23%). This is a very high fee and I haven't done the swap. Is this level of fee to be expected?

If I'm receiving Bitcoin on-chain and know I want it to be liquid, I actually prefer to receive it into Sideswap because you can go directly to the peg-in address. In aqua, you currently have to receive btc, then swap (so 2 on-chain transactions). I've heard that Aqua will allow for a similar flow soon, at which point I won't need the Sideswap app anymore. Other benefit I see is the interoperability with lightning.

I've downloaded Aqua.... I've noticed it says a service fee of 428 sats will be taken for the transaction....😮 seems very expensive when compared to muun or wallet of Satoshi which is like a few sats..... Anyone else hesitant to use aqua because of this??

I explain this in the video - the wallet is actually using liquid network by default but has a swap function in the background to execute lightning transactions. This means there is a transaction fee for liquid network of around that amount, but you don't have to set up lightning channels as you would if you had self-custody of your lightning. Wallet of Satoshi is cheap because they hold your money for you. Muun can be VERY expensive when Bitcoin on-chain fees go up because it is not actually using lightning in the background.

This wallet is unusable as there is one glaringly missing feature, and that is a security PIN to protect the app from being opened by anyone. It just opens right up, like a normal app with no protection. I can’t keep my wealth in this wallet if anyone can take my phone and open the app and send my bitcoin away in a flash. Worse, I live in a country where crime is rampant, and someone could hold me up, and easily take my bitcoin. Not only that, anyone can take my phone and get my seed phrase. Why are they not offering some PIN or Facial recognition security to protect against this? Am I missing something, or is this really not a security feature available?

I'll be honest, for my regular spending wallets I typically don't use a pin because I don't keep meaningful amounts in them, and I have a lock on my phone anyways. That said, they're adding a pin option.

I think it would be one of the more difficult forms of USDt to be frozen. Reason being is that liquid has confidential transactions, meaning you can see the amount OR the type of asset being sent/received unless you were directly involved in the transaction.

Seems like liquid is attempting to increase the supply of Bitcoin. No different than keeping your bitcoin on an exchange. It’s a no for me!

You can audit the supply of LBTC and the amount of BTC in the federated multisig in real time. There IS a custodial tradeoff, and for some that will be a no-go. That said, it is more secure than a single company custodying your funds in a single jurisdiction. It would require 11 out of 15 globally dispersed entities to collude simultaneously to rugbull the entire network. Again, I use it in the context of spending cash. If you have a bank account that you regularly use for bills, you are far more exposed to 3rd party risk than using liquid.

@@stiltcity that's fair, we're just gonna have to grapple with the fact that there's no free lunch. Full self sovereignty will incur on chain fees, which may be quite high at times. Ditto with lightning when dealing with channels (if unprepared). As long as you're good with the cost tradeoff then you're golden. Hopefully there's also more self sovereign scaling mechanisms over time.
