Thank you! I change up my practice plan quite a bit. Coordinating both hands together is my main problem. I’m experimenting with really learning the more difficult hand separately and then putting hands together. Currently that is working. I’m also playing pieces “below” my grade that pose musical challenges like jazz, blues, and ragtime.

I started last yr with the goal of Comptine de autre ete, and after some learning I did learn how it's played although with bad quality of course. I was doing Grade 1 book of Piano adventure, it's the best, and was rushing rapidly hoping to finish the book in about a month, I played a few pieces with great difficulty, and then also jumped to the Kunz Canons, they frustrated me so much, and for some other reasons i quite, perhaps due to the typical ADHD behaviour. I am back after 8 months and hopefully will learn with patience, finishing the easy basic pieces and more easy exercises. Consistency and focus and goal setting with regular or easy review of the goal is the most important factor in achieving anything, things which I lack.

Comptine de autre ete is actually a bit awkward to play. That LH figure isn't easy (but it's soooo beautiful!). I'll add to what you stated about consistency/focus/goal setting - finding music that's at one's current level and is actually enjoyable is important too!

You know duolingo is so perfect app for language learning based on its streak count that no matter what, the user has to complete the streak with one lesson, so its been years i've been using it; i wish if there was a streak counting for piano, then i would'nt have stopped it, plus if we keep the growth slow easy and steady by following the method book, and some easy exercise books and ignoring the tough ones. It can be achieved for piano. @@PianoRoadmap

You're welcome! It can be difficult to make a plan without a teacher's help. I'm going to try to make more videos on this.

Thanks Susan. From your video it seems that I am generally on track, but one thing I sometimes have problems with is, when following the Faber Adult book series, I come across a tune I really don't like. I recognize that the technique is important but feel like I'm wasting my time learning to play something I dislike. I don't know if I should just move on or persist? I feel like it slows my progress because my heart isn't in that piece. I currently can't afford lessons so don't have a teacher to talk to about it. Do you have any advice about this.

Great question. Everything in the method book has a purpose, usually introducing a new concept or reiterating old ones. It's not the end of the world if you move on from a piece that you don't enjoy, but first, try to understand WHY the piece is in the book and think about how you might apply it to others that you've already played (if applicable). Instead of forcing yourself to learn a piece to perfection that you don't enjoy, give yourself a day goal. "I'll practice this piece for x days", and then be done. You might want to limit how many pieces you allow yourself to do this as well. "I'll only do this for x pieces from Units 1-5", for example.

@@PianoRoadmap Thank you for replying Susan. I will take this onboard. I did find that going back to a piece that I disliked actually worked because it was easier and I had found the key to unlocking the lesson was in getting the timing right. I know, pretty obvious in hindsight.
