One of the nice things about building your own quad is that if you are on a tight budget you can buy one part a paycheck until you have all the parts verses a bind and fly where you have to pony up all the money at once.

If I were to build this, but only had 4s batteries lying around, would I pick higher or lower KV motors ? Really appreciate this series, thanks !

For 4S, you would want a kv around 2400. You can run the 6S motors on 4S batteries and the quad will fly ok just lack top end power. I don't recommend it, but if you had to do it, it'd be ok. And for a beginner, the lack of power might actually be a good thing.

Just found out about you through the Flowstate documentary and I really appreciate the content you've put out there. About a decade ago I was working for a drone company in Sarasota FL and I had the pleasure of trying out FPV a few times, though most of my work was with the larger DJI products like the S1000 and all had flight assist so no tricks. This is definitely a hobby that I want to get into, but it's pricey, so in the meantime what simulators do you recommend to get myself acclimated before investing too much in hardware? Joshua, your QAV-S 2 kits don't contain the happymodel or any model transmitter and antena and no prop nuts. Were they to expensive to include them?

Like the note on the product page says, you must buy the receiver separately. The reason is that not everybody uses ELRS. so if somebody prefers to use a different receiver, we don't want to force them to buy it. The motors come with prop nuts. If yours didn't have prop nuts contact support.

Interesting series. Only watched the first one so far. One thing I wondered though: this is a 5" quad, so is clearly going to be well over 250g AUW? With Sept '23 just round the corner maybe you could have said something about the consequences of building an above 250g quad versus a sub 250g quad - ie remote ID. It's quite an important decision with implications. Maybe you do later, don't know. Unless of course I've missed something and the FAA have had a miraculous change of heart.

Hi. Let me say it again. I bought your starter kit that has the ec, fc, the motors etc. I bought the dji air 3 unit and the happy model eslr. i bought the dji googles 2. I have a pocket master boxer. Are these compatible or do i need to buy a dji remote controller? I thought i need dji googles to bind with the dji 03 air. My confusion is can i use the radio master boxer for the remote control unit as i have the happy eslr board
