Great video! Been in the fence about getting one of these modifiers for awhile, but you may have convinced me to try one out! Thanks for the different comparisons too!

Thanks for sharing, creating these kinds of shapes by shadows was always a challenge for me and I still think about making them without these equipment.

You can definitely try it out. Make sure the time of the day is proper for it and get your modifier close to your subject.

Hello. Thanks for video. What is the size of the pattern (gobo) for a 50mm lens and a distance of 4 meters?

Many thanks for the trio of videos on the optical snoot. Been looking high and low for info/experience with the specific optical snoot you used. Sure helped my decision. I was wondering if you find the color fringing bothersome on these optics. Certainly not noticeable with black and white conversions but in color might be an issue. Your thoughts appreciated.

It's a little annoying but it mostly appears when your use the conical snoot without the GOBO. Whenever I add a GOBO, because I don't use the rim edge of the snoot, the color fringing doesn't show. The lens assisted will not do that since the glass of of much higher quality but at this point, it all depends on your budget. I can see myself living with the 'classic' snoot for a while.

thank you for sharing! it just blowed my mind, do you know where I can find one for an elinchrom flash?
@YvensBPhoto4 жыл бұрын
Hey Camilo, you'd just have to get an adapter for the light to fit the bowens mount: amzn.to/2NTDUi7

@@YvensBPhoto thank you! and you know if there is any difference between the one from canada and the one from usa? These are different brands, would you recommend one over the other?

Dows a 75-300 mm ef lens works in a lens assisted gobo?

It will but the aperture of the lens will shut down a lot of light

Hy, I have the exact same one and it's not focalizing good. I am in a dispute now. The edges are not sharp...any idea why? I already set the knob to the max, I switch distances from the wall, nothing works. Do u have a lens mount maby so it focalizez beter or is this no option for this gobo projector? Thank you!!
@YvensBPhoto3 жыл бұрын
I made a new video with the lens assisted optical snoot. It's very difficult to get the exact sharp output with this modifier because the focusing knob is not very precise. I suggest moving the light closer and further to see what distance works best. Or, sell this one and get the better version.

Hi YvensB, at 2:06, I noticed a prominent blue fringing when the projection is focused at its sharpest? Is that typically how sharp it can focus and the color fringes are blue on the edges or are there also other colors that can occur? You mentioned the lens assistant to be a better quality but how much better is the focus and fringing on the lens assist unit? Thank you.
@YvensBPhoto4 жыл бұрын
Good question; It's difficult to put a numerical value on how much better but, since lenses are built to avoid color fringes and chromatic abberations, they're necessarily going to project less of them. The glass inside the snoot is low quality. The distance between the light and the subject will influence it's sharpness. The further away, the sharper the lines will be. It's also quite easy to clean up color fringes in Photoshop or Lightroom using the tools. It's a little more effort in order to spend less on this accessory.

That ain't a GOBO... That is an optical spot... The "metal card" you refer to is the GOBO...

I don't recall where but I do disclose that I used the term interchangeably. If you want to stick to that, be my guest!
