What would have been sweet is if they had a normal mother in which they would’ve had a chance for a normal life without a terrible childhood experience causing who knows how much mental problems for who knows how much time before moving on with their lives. @@beckyboo1433Ms. Rule seemed like an amazing woman. I always hoped to meet her one day. I’ve read all her books and she was always extremely thorough and objective. Take “Green River, Running Red”, for example, which is about Gary Ridgeway, the “Green River Killer”. Ms. Rule delved deeply into the lives of his victims. She portrayed them as human beings instead of “just runaways, drug addicts, or prostitutes”. She was a lot more empathetic and compassionate than male authors who published their own version on the same topic. (In my humble opinion, Ms. Rule’s book is the best version.) Maybe her daughter,Leslie, who is also an author, will pen her mom’s biography. It would be really interesting to read about Ms. Rule’s incredible life. May she rest in eternal peace.

I think her mother spoiled her rotten and when others didn’t or she had to give of herself, she just couldn’t deal with it. It was all about her growing up. I see so much coddling and complimenting kids today no wonder they grow up thinking everyone else is beneath them. Couple this with letting them get away with lies and you got a sociopath.

I live in a state neighboring Oregon, and we have lonely old roads exactly like the one Diane was on. During the day there was probably traffic on the road but at night it would be so isolated that only someone that lived out in that area would have been on it. If I accidently over stayed on a visit to a friends house and had to drive that road to get back home, I would be scared, it would be dark out there at night with no street lights and only a few sparse farmhouses along the way and they almost always have long winding narrow little driveways. The sight of a bushy haired stranger leaping out of the darkness to get my attention would send me instantly into a panic and I would be going as fast as that kind of road would allow to get away from him. There would be no stopping, no chatting, and certainly no brave little old me getting out of the car to see what he wanted. I mean that isn't evidence, but I bet 99% of women and a good share of men hearing her story about that simply could not believe it. It just wasn't a realistic scenario.

Oprah used to have a good show in the late 80s and early 90s - had a knack for keeping her pulse on topics the people wanted to hear, leading to many others emulating what she did. She would bring attention to cases, get exclusive interviews, and often go out of her way to hear the stories from the middle and lower classes of America when no one else would listen. I remember my uncle and his family going on her show in the early 90s because she had heard that their house burnt down and lost everything - the farm, the home, all belongings, etc. and she brought them on to hear their story and help them. She also did a brief interview with family members on my dad’s side of the family who helped give shelter to an abused boy that was friends with my cousin. I’ve tried finding the videos, but I do believe they’re just lost to time. She was always doing something and trying to hear the other side, giving a voice to those that needed it and bringing on those who needed to be exposed. Nowadays, though … she’s kinda’ secluded herself with all of her money and largely covering stories that aren’t in tune with average people anymore. Don’t get me wrong, she still tries to connect and share others’ stories, but the way she goes about it now is wildly different compared to when she was just a talk show host during television’s prime time era. I still consider her the greatest solely for that time as no one has come close and been able to last as long as she, but man do I miss that era of Oprah.

As someone who has both lost a child and is a nervous smiler/laugher...what Diane does is different. When my daughter died I'm sure more than a few people thought it was strange how I reacted when speaking about her or her death. But Diane's eyes tell the truth, that woman's face lights up like a child on Christmas when she talks about it sometimes! And the way she calls the kids lucky while saying she's unlucky by cause she couldn't tie her shoes for a few weeks. 👀 I was so distraught that even though I would smile or laugh at inappropriate times, I could NEVER think of saying something that cold. I remember doing things like choosing clothes and eating or drinking made me feel guilty because my daughter couldn't anymore. A grieving parent tends to feel unlucky because of what they CAN do, not the other way around. A grieving parent would be willing to be trade being tortured every single day if it meant that child could come back and live a normal life during that time. It's horrible helpless feeling that I wouldn't wish on any loving parent.

Watching this from the 🇬🇧 I didn't realise there had been a movie. I was watching thinking Shelley Long would've been a good choice. I'll have to try and find it to watch.

I read Ann Rule's book, Small Sacrifices, and what I remember the most about the book, was the part where the prosecutor could not encourage Christie to talk about what had occurred, until he set up a scenario, with a fake car, and asked Christie to pretend she was her mother ... whereupon Christie immediately pretended she had a gun, and that she was shooting each child through the fake windows of the car. It was as though she had to be able to take on the persona of her mother before she could give herself permission to divulge the horrific truth of the occurrence. I recommend reading the book to see who you believe is telling the truth.

Such a great prolific writer. The book was a work of art.

Her parole hearing is on KZbin and it's insane. She spins this convoluted account of what happened that night as she tries her best to reconcile her conflicting stories.
