Unlocking a directv hdd!

Note:
This video is only for a discontinued DirecTV DVR that was not requested to be returned! They ask you to return only the access card in the envelope provided and to take the DVR to a recycle center.
The main tools you will need is a directv dvr 500gb Seagate or Western Digital hdd and a HDAT2 bootable cd these drives are DCO frozen. Hook up the hdd in a PC and boot the computer with hdat2 cd. the procedure: step 1: select option 1 from the menu, step 2: once it goes to a command prompt type HDAT2.EXE /W' step 3: once HDAT2 has started select the drive model that you are working on and press enter 4: the first thing under the menu you want to do is select "Device Configuration Overlay (DCO) menu" under there you need to select "Restore" at the bottom of the screen it will prompt you for a Yes/No just hit Y let it do its thing and it should comeback with some code and some words in green. step 5: now we need to hit escape till were back to the menu and we need to select "Commands Menu" and hit enter under commands menu select "commands/feature sets" and hit enter you will see a lot of things in gray and yellow we are only going to touch one thing here and that's the "Power-Up In Standby (PUIS)" we want to disable this (if it's not disabled) by highlighting it and pushing the right arrow then hit the s key it will prompt you for a Y or N ht Y for yes it will say working and then should finish without error and turn to disabled. Turn computer off, unplug power from DVR, take hdd out of DVR and hook it up to computer. Here you will need a Linux live boot cd with gparted or gparted on a usb flash drive. Boot up Linux live cd and run gparted or boot gparted from flash drive, delete partitions and format hdd to NTFS for installing windows or just using as a storage drive; you can just install Linux and be done if you want but if you want Windows to recognize it or to insatll windows you will have to format to NTFS . So if you want Windows to see the hdd as storage within windows make sure the hdd is in a windows machine, run windows, download seagate tools, install and run seagate tool your hdd should show up now as storage. Your hdd is now unlocked and ready for using. ENJOY!!!!!!
