Once you take a road trip, you will understand what he is talking about. With some experience, you can intuitively make better decisions than the car. This guy is explaining things in a very simple way and that is because Tesla made the navigation software to be simple. GREAT VIDEO 👍🏾

Thanks, great video. Appreciate the tips. Hopefully my new Model Y will be here by the end of June. We have a road-trip (our first) scheduled from Illinois to Colorado in July……stay safe.

My first road trip is in a couple days - 250 miles only. LOL While it’s not a long trip, there will be a learning curve. I’m excited as the furthest I’ve driven one way is 75 miles. / ‘23 Model Y

I live in the SF Valley and my family lives in Nevada City so I often make the 450 mile trip up there several times a year. Just got my Model Y last month and took the trip a week after picking it up. I quickly learned exactly what you talked about. Use the bottom half of the battery and charge more times, quicker and go. Like you while I'm charging I've already picked my next potential supercharger and am watching the arrival state of charge. Being new I usually unplug at 20% and go but now I might go a bit lower like you. The estimations are pretty accurate (usually within 1%). Only time I ran short was when going up the Grapevine coming back. Got scared and charged for about 7 minutes at the first charger in Castaic. Interesting because I always stopped at Bravo Farms and noticed the big supercharger there however the one across the street (use to be a Burger King) is now a must stop. The inside lounge is fantastic.

I'm about to go on a trip and seriously considering using my new Model 3 to do it with. My apprehension is that this is longer than any trip I've done in a long time and certainly my first time attempting it with an EV. I'm hoping the charging stops and the use of FSD will make it less of a monotonous, anxiety filled trip. Your video is giving me a little more confidence with this!

Glad to help, we have done so many Tesla road trips over the years, we don't even think about it anymore. They are so fun, and so easy, we haven't owned a gas car in years, even then it was a Volt, so we still plugged in. I suggest plugging in the destination on your Tesla NAV before going, and it will map out the route (based on your current charge) so you get an idea what it looks like. Or there is a great app called "A Better Route Planner" that you can get an idea of the trip as well. Have a great time!

@@TeslaTipsTrips Thank you for the additional pointers and comforting words. It definitely helps me to get over the nervousness. Funny you should mention it, my last vehicle was a Volt. I loved that car and had it for 10-ish years. I've only had the Tesla 2-3 months and learn new stuff about it everyday!

Good stuff. We just did MO2CA 3,900 miles round trip. I had a roof top box and a rear cargo carrier. Zero issues. ‘24 Model Y Long Range.

I completed my first Long range road trip to Southern GA from Northern VA. It was about 768 miles one way. I concur with the advice. Listen to the navigation. I did do until the very end. I thought I could out guess the system. This is my first Tesla. I attempted to by pass a recommendation at the end. However traffic changed and I got range anxiety once I dropped to 3% just before arriving to my destination. My personal philosophy is listen and charge when between 15-20%.

Low state of charge doesn’t hurt if you aren’t just letting it sit for hours.
