Parable - Religious History Documentaries

No single work has shaped Western civilization more than the Bible. In this provocative seven-part series, renowned archaeologist John Romer traces the roots of the world's most important book in light of archaeological evidence. Who wrote the Bible? Where did the story of creation come from? What can archaeology tell us about Abraham, the Exodus, and Jesus of Nazareth? Join Romer as he visits dig sites at Jericho, Jerusalem, and elsewhere to uncover the motives and methods of the people who told the sacred story, attacked it, defended it, and transformed it throughout history.

Me too. From google - this from from 1988. Egyptologist John Romer wrote and presented a TV series for Channel 4 in Britain called Testament, a seven part, six hour series described as an investigation into the origins of the bible, both the Jewish Tanakh and the Christian Old and New Testament.

Unlistenable due to the background volume drowning out much of the commentary, and the commentary sounds fluctuating between loud, barely audible and seemingly doubled over itself. It’s really a shame since the subject matter I was able to hear before giving up was extremely interesting.

It is disappointing to read some of the detractors of these documentaries. These have been archived away in some dark and dingy space somewhere, where it has been left to the elements to destroy the medium and be lost to future generations. Remember that these were filmed on Celluriod and a magnetic sound track added to it, both of which unless kept in optimum conditions will deteriorate and degrade over time. These companies have converted old documentaries....ie knowledge.....in to up to date medium and made it available for later generations to watch. So instead of being negative about the imperfection of the video, just watch and be grateful that some people have taken the time, effort and cost of preserving such things and be happy some have the foresight to do so. Also if you are unwilling to deal with imperfection to watch historic documentaries then maybe you should instead pay to stream documentary channels, rather than find fault in something that you get for free.....when did people become so f'ing entitled and think everything should be free and wrapped up in a bow for them!!!!!!!

Poor audio quality! Why choose a narrator who doesn't believe in the Bible even though he claims to read it often? Video is also very dated insofar as the viewpoint that it doesn't take into account a great deal of information that has come to light in Biblical archaeology since the filming (Yes, filming) had taken place. Sorry, no biscuit.

_"It is one thing to say that the originals were inspired, but the reality is that we don't have the originals - so saying they were inspired doesn't help much, unless the originals can be reconstructed. Moreover, the vast majority of Christians for the entire history of the church, haven't had access to the originals, making their 'inspiration' something of a moot point._ *Not only do we not have the originals, we don't have the first copies of the originals. We don't even have copies of the copies of the originals, or the copies of the copies of the copies of the originals."* *- Prof. Bart D. Ehrman:* _Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A student in the field for the past 30yrs. We do have the Dead Sea Scrolls, which date to approximately 100 BC. (Old Testament). The New Testament has copies that date to the Third Century AD, and a few fragments dated to the Second Century AD. Some translations, such as the Syriac Ones, vary as only to a few verses. There are variations made by the RC that caveat in some places, with additional books that were added by early RC to make claims for the veneration of Mary, the mother of Jesus (a.k.a. the Mother of God in RC). Meanwhile, back in the Old Testament, the RC Old Testament wasn't translated directly from Hebrew, but was translated from the Greek Septuagint which had at least the Ten Commandments not being a literal translation from the Hebrew to the Greek (which was altered to coincide with the pagan pantheon). The King James Bible translators somewhat follows the translation began by Tyndale, who did such a good job that there was little change in the text when writing the KJV. There have been only minor changes in the KJV, most recently when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. However, these changes were few, attesting to the Hebrew Scriptures' preservation of the text. There are a few mistranslations that may have been purposely done by a Jewish Apologetic (Roshi?) during the Inquisition when Jews were being forced to become RCs. These were made to take the "teeth" out of certain Messianic, prophetic portions of the Hebrew Scriptures. (Psalms 2, I think is one example.) For reference, check out the One for Israel channel on KZbin. They are Messianic Jews who recently began an excellent series on these changes. Because I have sourced them for the particular explanation above, their video series is much in the front of my mind to remember easily. While I don't doubt you about not having the original scriptures, or even copies of copies of copies of the originals, what we do have,we should be thankful for what God has allowed to remain. The most recent of translations are the most troubling. In the 19th Century, AD, thanks to a Methodist pastor (Sorry, I can't recall his name at the moment.) who thought that he knew the date and time of Christ's return, eventually caused such a ruckus, that it brought about the creation of a couple of divergent churches that rewrote their bibles and beliefs. About the same time, the LDS (a.k.a. Mormons) started up with a new set of unholy books as well as another deviated bible. When the 20th Century came along, there were radio preaches and later, TV Evangelists. Most of them were not legitimate, causing many believers to go astray, along with other versions of the Bible: paraphrased, rearranged, New Aged, in ad nauseam. By the 21st Century, we have apostate mega churches, "woke" churches, and others. "My people perish for lack of knowledge." (Sorry, I'm too weary to remember that reference.) Forgive me, friend, for I'm probably causing you to grow weary. God bless you in whatever you do! Have a peaceful night!

23:44 you quote Genesis 1, "And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. But you clearly haven't actually considered the stark difference between what genesis says and your interpretation. You're talking about this firmament that God established between the waters and you say it's something like the water under the earth and the water on top of the earth like seas and oceans and stuff. And then you say saltwater and freshwater. That's not what genesis one is saying bro. There was a physical frozen canopy above the earth separating the oceans on the earth from the waters that were resting on top of and surrounding the earth on top of this canopy. The firmament is not the ground. If it was then why would God say he called the firmament heaven (or our sky)?? We know this from Paul's epistles where he said he knew a man who was taken up to the 3rd heaven. So the 1st heaven is our sky where the clouds and birds fly then the 2nd heaven is the universe as we see it in our telescopes and all the celestial bodies etcetera etcetera. Then the 3rd heaven is we're God and his throne are. This place transcends all physical reference... but that firmament in genesis chapter one is definitely not the ground.

If you believe its fantasy I will pray that you find God and Jesus Christ and be saved. As it stands right now, looking at your picture you might worship idols; i.e. statues, carvings, false gods stolen from the biical scripture and turned into some other fabricated story.
