Tampa subscriber here. Always love when you put out a new video. With the exception of food gardening, there is so little info on Florida gardening on You Tube. Would love to see more videos about smaller palms (need to be able to trim myself), irrigation, fertilizing, planting in general on a smaller scale, planting along the foundation of your home, etc.. I could go on and on. I love the tropical look but I love plants that flower also. I’m trying to incorporate both but at a level that I can manage myself. Love how you put the names of the plants on the screen along with their sun/shade requirements. You are such a wealth of knowledge and your gardening style is perfection.

GA girl here who “should” be living in a tropical zone because she loves a tropical garden…I have a gorgeous variegated Bougainville that I keep in a pot near my pool & it does beautifully. In Nov I drag it into my garage for winter. She’ll lose some of her leaves during that time. I’ll open up the garage door on nice winter days & come spring I’ll drag her back outside & she takes off. I love that plant.

Thank you for the tips! I live in Miami. They are everywhere! I have one in my landscape that I transplanted from a pot. It was almost dead, but it took off when I put it in the ground. I have to trim it all the time. Otherwise, it will take over the whole area where it is planted. I harldy water mine, just when it rains 😂 I had the same issue of them not surviving when I had them in pots and later found out it was from overwatering. I want to add a climbing one. Do you have any recommendations? BTW I'm in love with your backyard ❤

Hi there, i am listening to your advice on bougainvilleas in general. You said that you feed yours every couple of months. Could you please define that a bit more ? So you don’t believe in ‘the rest in winter’ strategy then ? I live in South Africa. Tx 🤩🙋🏼‍♀️

I have 3 bougainvilleas. 1 red in a pot for yrs now n it's really leggy which needs trimmed i know i know 1 purple queen that i just bought about two months ago which has beautiful blooms n then they all feel off but it's starting to bloom again n then i have a while one. That one i planted in the ground last April n it got flowers n some kind of berry looking things in it n more it won't bloom again. I've got no flowers from the white one at all this. Any idea why it's not blooming now. It's also kind small considering it's been in the ground for over a yr. I live in Palm Bay Florida n it's in the direct sun from about noon until the sun goes down. I do fertilize it n water it about every two to three weeks but I'm getting nothing. Help lol... Thanks in advance

Hi, I live in San Antonio Texas. We will get 1-2 freezes for a couple days in winter, but not much. I have a year old bougainvillea in it's original pot. It's doing well, and I'm ready to repot or plant in ground. Should I keep it in a pot so I can bring it in during freezes or plant it in ground? If in ground, I'd like to train it up a trellis alongside one wall of house. Thank you!

West Tx Zone 8. I lost 2 out of 4 in the ground this past winter. They were all covered and heavily mulched before the freeze. Sadly, the vines didn’t survive on the ones that made it so they regrew from the root base. This is why I’ve lost hope on vining outside. The one I have in a Mexican Talavera pot I brought inside and she has vined and is full and gorgeous. I should add that the one Bouga I covered in thick 6mil plastic tarp did way better than the others that had old linen sheets (as per my nursery recommendation). I’ll stick to trash bags and tarp from now on.

I had a glorious Bougi trained over a 10-foot arch on the side of my house. You’re right, it blooms all year and is just gorgeous! Our freeze in North FL a few weeks ago killed it all. I’m so sad about it. Killed my lovely Turk’s Cap as well that pretty much bloom all year. Would you recommend cutting back all the branches back or leaving it as is for new spring growth? Probably a stupid question, but I’m new to this kind of plant.

Unfortunately, a harsh cutback is the only way to regain shape and get those under control. If you have a nice, thick, and dense place in the bush that you like the look of, maybe cut all of the stems back to that cluster and then start maintaining it from there. However, the great thing about Bougainvillea is that you almost cut them to the ground flush right back out, and you can start over. Good luck

What size pots? Do you have to repot frequently
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 2 ай бұрын
I usually usually put most of the budget in the pot because I need that pot to fit the scale of the location then I put the plant or the tree repotting about every three years.

I love bouganvilleas, how can make them crawl to my pergola?
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 2 ай бұрын
you can add some fishing line loosely, wrap it around some of the beams and it’ll attach and weave in and out of that however you can also fertilize it very, very heavy since bougainvilleas are big feeders and they will push their way up with the Fertilizer and just wrap them around as you see the stems good luck Gardner.

Bougainvillea Looper caterpillars are generally the only pest you need to worry about with bougainvillaes. They are active spring, summer and fall in Florida. I have my customers spray every 3-4 weeks from April 1-October 30 with an organic biological spray called Thuricide. It is a microbial insecticide that uses the bacterium Bacillus thurengiensis which affects the digestive tract of the caterpillar but does not harm beneficial insects like Bees or Butterflies. Neem oil can cause burning of bougainvillea leaves because it is an oil and often leads to problems in the hot burning sun of Florida and it is not that effective against caterpillars. Thuricide works 100% and as long is it on the plant 5-6 hours before it rains, it does not need to be reapplied.

My plants dropped blooms and then leaves.....All the while the leaves were smooth and deep green with no color change, no wilting, no mold or fungus, and no evident insects. 😢
@bittersweethouse
@bittersweethouse 5 күн бұрын
@DeborahFuselier When my bougainvillea drops green leaves it is due to lack of water. The one that consistently drops green leaves is very pot bound and I can't change it because it is too large. I wouldn't be able to go 2 weeks without water. I drench it until the water comes out of the bottom every 2-3 days in this 95 degree Florida weather. In cooler weather, I might only water 1x a week. The plant is trying to save itself by shedding leaves. If the leaves turn yellow first and then drop, that might mean it is too much water.
