Jennifer, I love your videos & so glad to have stumbled on them. I just moved back to Florida and in zone 9b, the southern part of Hillsborough County, gulf side. I'm researching your plants to my zone & of course some plants wouldn't do well here. Your backyard is my dream too. You are an inspiration for sure. Thank you.

I’m so happy to be finding more of your videos. Thanks for addressing the cold hardiness of these plants. I’d also be interested in a video about the heat tolerance. We were upgraded to zone 10a this year and last summer was an absolute scorcher with heat AND humidity.

Nice review for cold weather needs of tropicals. Boy I wished I lived there vs panhandle in Navarre FL. We usually do well most of winter except we seem to have one spell every winter that gets in mid to low 20s for 8 hours and it’s hard to put certain things in ground have to settle for pots. Outside of that the winter is usually mild down to mid 30s a few nights. But still enjoy seeing your place thanks for sharing

Wonderful, timely video for these colder temps. Thanks for anticipating our concerns! Also, I noticed the Baeta (sp?) edging as you were walking through your garden. Are you still happy with it? I love your videos Jennifer, I was wondering how you go about fertilizing all of this? I know palms & plants like this benefit greatly from a good feeding schedule so was curious on your thoughts about that. Maybe you could make an upcoming video based on how you fertilize an entire landscape like this? Thank you for any response!🌴

Great question I was actually thinking of doing a video on it on my palms I use 8 to 12 and on my blooming plants I use bougain BGI I use the southern Ag nutritional palm spray that you can get off Amazon every three months with a hose end, adapter, and just spray it on. Works amazingly. Good luck

For years you've been inspiring me to make my central GA (8b) gardens more tropical. Do you use plants that could survive in 8b in your designs?
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 5 ай бұрын
Absolutely! While the difference in zones can limit some tropical plants due to colder conditions, Pindo palm, cabbage palm, windmill palm, dwarf Palmettos, and possibly king sagos should thrive well in your 8b zone. I'm thrilled to be part of your gardening inspiration in Central GA! I hope those suggestions help! Happy gardening! 🌴🌿

Oh the pop of red in the back of the clusia is so pretty! do you prefer mulch over rocks? Your thoughts on crushed shells? I'm scared of snakes LOL
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 5 ай бұрын
I do prefer mulch over rock especially since my gardens tends to be more along the lines of a jungle and the rocks get lost. However if you prefer a more open space lol a place to spot a snake if need be, then a more open design with rocks would probably be the easiest to maintain. Best of luck to you!

Thanks so much for the info Jennifer. I didn't realize clusia was so tender when young. Your alocasia is beautiful. Still trying to find the right spot for mine - the new leaves continue to shrink in size. Any suggestions? Love all your videos - my favorite is still the back yard in Fort Pierce.
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 5 ай бұрын
Hello Chica, you are so very welcome and yes that Ft. pierce project was one of my favorites too. I will be getting a tour of that space soon. As for your question, Alocasia can do that for a number of reasons. Starting with too much or too little water, not enough sunlight, essential nutrients depleted after transplanting from pot into its current location. I wish there was a clearer answer to that question. In my case it was do to the lack of light as you know they like bright, indirect light. Well, I know that doesn't narrow it down a ton but hope that helps some. 😊

@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 5 ай бұрын
no, I wish I had that much forethought it’s chasing the sun so it’s leaning forward and the limbs are really sprawling out to get some sunlight. Isn’t it a beautiful look? that’s one of the things that I love about shade palms. they’ll do well in the shade, but they still try to reach the sun so often that creates some beautiful curves as well as awesome arching branches.

Beautiful garden! Just love your videos, very inspiring! You mentioned you give your clusia a haircut twice a year, how do you prune them so they don’t look butchered lol?
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 5 ай бұрын
Great question, I avoid the use of hedge trimmers that gives you cut leaves throughout the hedge and looks like your plants have dead ends everywhere lol. I use loppers and get the unruly ones only keeping them tidy on the top and both sides. If I miss a cutting I may have to give everything a hard cut back however that just developing a line of where I want them then cutting the entire grouping to follow that line. If you end up with a butchered look because too much time had gone past since the last trimming then don't worry as long as you cut the stems and not the leaves they will flush out quickly.

I love the look of red bananas they just don't offer enough time in the garden. I've only been able to keep them in pots and by year two they seem to peter out. I do have an Ice cream banana tree on my side yard that I love. It produces a good crop every year.
