Please forgive my need to bring a much needed sense of perspective to those who make these kinds of statements. By this logic, what law ever written “stops criminals from doing” anything? Better yet, what law stops anyone from doing anything? All laws can do is deter, and that’s what they are designed to do. If all laws were meant to “stop” all people from breaking them, they would all have death sentences and be enforced with no due process, no rule of law at all. And overgeneralizing a statement as you did leaves it open for sweeping destruction. Stop criminals from doing so. What would they be doing? Carrying guns in the gun free zone? Ok, no law prevents anyone from doing what they want when they are a criminal, so should all laws be abolished? No anit-killing law would have prevented a single killing ever in the United States. That’s easy to say when the crime is committed, and what of those that WERE prevented and no one would ever know because they don’t want anyone to know that they wanted to kill, but they didn’t because they would face severe punishment when they got caught. See, the logic used in your example is short sighted and narrow minded, and makes no sense at all when you consider what it means and doesn’t mean. I could just say, “that license plate showing that vehicle doesn’t belong to you won’t prevent it from getting stolen”. Or, “that hand gun you carry won’t prevent you from getting robbed”. It might, but it might not. But you carry it because you feel the chances of getting robbed go waaaay down when you have the gun. Well, you chances go way, way down if it’s in open carry form. With concealed carry, they won’t know you are packing until after an attack starts, so there is no deterrent, unless you get the chance to draw your weapon and deter them. If the gun isn’t meant to be a deterrent, but you intend to use it, you will have a harder time proving self defense if you do use it. All laws are meant to reduce the chances of certain crimes from occurring. Actually the laws simply establish what constitutes breaking or not breaking them. The sentence for being found guilty is the deterrent.

I just listened to an interview with a former student of the shooter from nearly 10 years ago, he said the professor would oddly spend much of the class time talking about his many vacations to vegas. I think, his dream was maybe to retire there and he possibly had gambling or other vices draining his funds. Unlv was probably his dream job bc he was so fond of vegas for years. Maybe he sought revenge on those he envied working in the college and in a last jealous fit of rage took them along with himself. I just dont understand how hed have a specific hit list or even know the victims by appearance having never actually worked there.

Having lived in Vegas and knowing that the crime rate there has skyrocketed there in the past few years, Im wondering why there were no cameras inside the building where the shooting took place and no armed security there before the police arrived? UNLV is a public state university and considering the high level of crime in the surrounding neighborhood around the university, you would think they would have tighter security. Las Vegas has shootings and homicides on an almost daily basis and has become a dangerous city to visit or live.

It's literally not survivable for anyone anymore. Ask yourself WHY the news only covers a handful of mass shootings a week and not the whole average 12??? It's because they know its their own status quo fueling all of this. The shooter/murderer did something to mess up his career, because at his age he should have been focusing on retirement planning. The GOP isn’t “forcing anyone to work”. It’s everyone’s responsability to use those working years and begin to PLAN for the retirement years. Review your company retirement resouces within your company. No one takes care of you…but, yourself! The person “stopping him from making a living” IS HIMSELF! Stop the Blame-Game! (SIDE NOTE: Let’s leave politics out of local tragedies.)

For Comissioner Gibson to say that students were not targets as if that is a saving grace in this situation is really putting too much confidence in a person showing you he was unhinged. You really have no idea of who he would've "targeted" if that person got in his way. I mean...they did show a video where he took a shot(s) at a police officer.
