Sonible's Smart Comp is a god send for unmasking using it's spectrum side chain. Been out a while now and not a lot of people know about that part of the compressor. When you side chain it, it just acts only as that and ducks all the frequencies that clash out of the way. Lots of adjustment and does a precise job of this task. Check it out if you've not already done so.

Izotope everything bundle is such a amazing tool box and now there’s more added with this one. It might not be a use every time plugin but it’ll definitely be something I’d use a lot for inspiration when I’m not feeling sure about what to do but by what I’m seeing and hearing it definitely wouldn’t be a plugin redundant to only being that. There’s a couple other companies that are a no brainier “everything bundle” buys and Izotope for me is the surgical and creative monster of the everything bundles

If you buy MPS5 from iZotope, I assume you will also get Ozone 10 and Nectar 4 later this year for just around $400 without additional cost . It's such an amazing opportunity
@zwsh892 жыл бұрын
The reason there are no “full mix” options in sculptor or the new assistant is because they want you to buy and use Ozone for that! I’ve noticed over time, and I’m sure you have too as a neutron user, how there are a number of ways they built discouraging you from using it on a full mix right into the design. Izotopes vision would be to have neutron an every track, except for the master or mixbus, and that would have ozone on it.
@zwsh892 жыл бұрын
It’s a clever if not sneaky strategy to intentionally not make neutron a complete mixing one stop shop so that they can make ozone relevant to mixing engineers as well as mastering engineers and sell it to them too. They could have full mix options for people who otherwise wouldn’t need ozone, and would send their Unmastered work to a mastering engineer. They created a problem (no full mix options in neutron), and wouldn’t you know it, their solution is their most famous and popular plug-in, ozone. It would be nice to have full mix options in neutron, because as we all know, sometimes you don’t want to actually master your track on the mix bus. Sometimes you just want a decent level, some eq, and a little dynamic control before a later mastering phase. And what about preparing a track to send off for mastering? Ozone even functions as a standalone mastering suite, so iZotope clearly understands that mastering and mixing are separate stages. So it would be cool to see specific tools for the pre-master phases in neutron. But I can see why they don’t do it. I’ve seen people in iZotope educational videos suggest that you just bypass ozone before sending a track off for mastering, and that is nothing if not a more tempting, simpler, and let’s face it, more profitable solution for them, so we probably won’t be seeing any full mix options anytime soon, as cool as that would be. I like the idea that I would have neutron on everything including the mixbus and have features in nutron specifically for the mix bus instance. They already have interplugin communication, so it would be cool to see major control options in like a mix bus tab in neutron. With global control over things like internal side chain routing between instances, unmasking controls, maybe even the option to group various instances of neutron into groups for internal submixing, like put all of the guitars under a single compressor within the neutron mixbus instance. Maybe the ability to open up the eq for two tracks at the same time so you can make adjustments to one that mirror the other, all from within the mixbus instance of neutron… That kind of high level control over the whole project from inside of just the mixbus instance of neutron would be insanely cool, and sounds just like the kind of innovation that is both progressive, and encourages you to do all your mixing within neutron, which all sounds like IZotope to me! Here’s hoping!
@mixbustv2 жыл бұрын
Ozone doesn't have a mixing assistant
@zwsh892 жыл бұрын
@@mixbustv well, no, but that’s kinda my point. It does have a mastering assistant, and according to iZotope, they intend you to put ozone on your mixbus and use the mastering assistant to finish your track. So there’s nothing inbetween neutron for individual tracks and ozone for mastering. It would be nice if neutron had something like a “mix prep assistant” for getting a mix in shape TO THEN SEND to ozone.

I had the subscription for a few months and while I liked the plugins, they were in-fact very CPU heavy. No problem running various plugs from various different developers but one instance of Izotope would really make my system strain. The final straw for me was when I went to apply a izotope plugin one day and it wouldn't recognize my login info etc. At that point I was done and cancelled my subscription.

Hi David and thank you very much for your great review! I'm a Console 1 user (mainly ssl 4000 model) since 5 years... but I'm starting to mix a lot during my trips. I cannot afford to bring with me the Console 1 controller and without it, I'm not familiar at all with the basic console 1 interface (no spectrum analyzer...etc...). Do you think I could move to Neutron 4 as a main channel strip without sacrificing quality? I mean, since you have both Neutron and Softube channel strips, do you fell somehow "limited" by using neutron in terms of sound quality? thank you so much
@mixbustv2 жыл бұрын
Neutron is great but it would be a bit cpu intensive to use on every channel, and you won't have the same workflow or functions of an SSL ch because well, it's an ssl channel. That doesn't mean you coudn't mix with this one but it might be too cpu intensive for every channel

@@mixbustv you should give Trackspacer a demo. It’s FAST. Use cases: want to duck everything below 80hz from the bassline when the kick triggers, but not duck the upper harmonic info that communicates the bass note itself. Takes literally seconds to setup on a track and works beautifully. Quick sidechain multiband comp. Love it :)

@mrnelsonius56312 жыл бұрын
@@mixbustv that’s why I think you might like it. It’s not automated. You pick the freqs to be attenuated by the side chain signal and the amount. It’s a basic “ducker” but you choose the freq range yourself. I suspect because of your experience you have an established workflow for this kind of thing with other tools. Trackspacer just makes it fast and easy IMO, no black box magic going on :)

Is this something you had to train yourself on or am i deaf from playin drums lol?
@TheThebfke332 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind you are listining through youtube; the audio is compressed (the audio data) on youtube to save space, decrease load times and data transfer. Among other things: all audio information above 16k is removed. Also the audio is normalized to keep levels consistant between videos - basically limited/hard compressed. This may make compression differences especially difficult to hear. That is why he often exaggerate the settings, so we can hear it through the youtube algorithem. Try listening to the same track on youtube and on soundcloud/tidal. Some tracks sounds waaay different. He is listening to the raw audio which makes differences much more obvious. The other part is just experience. Your ears and brain will eventually learn exactly what to listening for.

@Mdjagg2 жыл бұрын
Whats your process? Just add to the visual and manualy adjust or are you using the eq match some way?
@cottoo12 жыл бұрын
@@Mdjagg let's say I have a vocal and a lead tracks that collide and I want to make some room for the vocal. I sidechain vocal channel to the lead channel and I add a proq3 to that lead channel. Then in the processing of proq3 you have to set the sidechain. Now in the analyzer of that proq3 instance you can see the spectrum of your lead and your vocal frequencies together and the colliding frequencies are marked in red, so you can now adjust the eq. My explanation is probably bad, so search youtube for fabfilter proq3 unmasking. It's worth it

Even with the dynamic eq engaged, is not even close to the same thing as this. Whether or not one works better than the other is to be seen case by case
@cottoo12 жыл бұрын
@@mixbustv yeah Im not saying it’s the same. Neutron’s approach is more like Trackspacer’s.
@Mdjagg2 жыл бұрын
@@cottoo1 Yeah, you can actually do this with less steps by having ProQ3 on both tracks (even if one doesn't have any active bands). With both tracks having ProQ3, just click on the Analyzer tab and select the other track in the internal sidechain area. Now both are visible in the analyzer. So, cool. Sounds like you just do it manually like me. And to David's point, the Neutron 4 is a dynamic process, vs a manual static adjustment. So, apples and oranges sort of.
