@shacker9393 I usually do a tier list after every major tournament. We're in the middle of Winter of Champions now and it ends early April. Stats on UMLeague are probably the best you'll find on that topic. I don't know of any matchup lists from content creators. There are just too many matchups to cover them all.

@krunoslav2658 Moon Knight doesn't have many hard counters. Elektra and Wukong would be the worst. Otherwise he can handle just about everybody. Raptors are more difficult than most.

Something really interesting that I discovered through play is that Black Panther can be a HUGE menace to Elektra. The idea is that Black Panther steals as many Elektra cards as he can on her first life, and then NOT use them, holding them hostage. Then when she dies, she doesn’t get them back from Panther’s suit. Not sure if it holds up in competitive play, but I definitely make Elektra players suffer with this strategy in casual play haha. Great list as always Zero, was very much looking forward to this!

I tried a Matchup of the month style thing with Black Panther against Elektra. One time Shuri was killed off quickly, but the other time, I got to steal like 5 or 6 cards from Elektra. Still lost in fatigue though ( IDK how it would work at higher levels, I only play casually)

I told my friend when we first did the magic duel out of the box that the Genie was easiest to play, but Houdini *felt* like he had the most potential to unlock and could be the stronger fighter. I wasn't expecting Black Panther in a Low mid... for me is a High, since he can take out "key cards" from so many fighters. I will change the position between Winter Soldier-Daredevil. Amazing how high is She Hulk!! I like it!

Black Panther can struggle to take cards if Shuri goes down fast, since his other cards can be cancelled. And it's just random what cards he steals. And I think DD is a bit more consistent and versatile than WS which is why he is higher.

I don't know, he feels more versatile for me. Plus, you can "Play" with your card-malus to just be annoying with your strategies!! Yeah 2v2 is a really fun way to play and totally changes the fundamentals of the game. Card draw gets much better. But there are way too many factors to make a reliable 2v2 list and I don't play it nearly enough to have any idea haha

I have about 8 people in my group that plays unmatched and we almost only play 2v2. It’s so much fun and plays so different than 1v1. I love seeing how your tier list translates to 2v2. IMO Electra and DD come down a bit. King Arthur is buffed in 2s. Sherlock Bigfoot Trex and Dusa are top tier. My favorite to play are Moonknight and Achilles. With Invisible man getting a decent amount of play from me idk why I just enjoy playing him. I need to play some more black widow and Dr strange after watching your video! Thanks for the content!

Great tier list and I almost entirely agree. There are a couple small things but yeah. Although, and this is probably just because I play them both so much, i definitely disagree that WS and DD have a similar matchup spread. They actually have very different weaknesses overall but it might just be me. MK being top of high tier is hype. Also I like that I got mentioned in the WS section because I am the only person who actually likes playing him lol

@@Recontramojado yes, on the coop games card draw is incredibly important because turns order isn’t set- it’s random every round; so you could attack, then be attacked several times and just have no cards. The enemy movement is very predictable and they won’t avoid shadow tokens or try to stay out of range to play exhaustion. There’s a lot of good stuff- and it makes sense with what I’ve always heard the Buffy set being designed more with 2v2 in mind. A lot of lower tier characters shine in the format

It's funny parallel with Taylor tierlist that he was predicting marvel fighters and you predicted Tales to amaze fighters. I love playing Tesla, i think i would definetly consider sinbad higher on my list, but that's just my mainer's opinion. All in all great tierlist, thanks!

Yeah I tried to make Sinbad work in Summer of Legends, but he really struggles to do anything when his Voyages are buried. He smashes Yenn and Red, but he's also useful into Strange, She-Hulk, Houdini, and to a lesser extent, T-Rex. It's hard to get those matchups while avoiding his terrible ones (Sherlock, Bigfoot, Wukong, Elektra, Luke Cage, Dracula) in both Banquest and Arsenal.

Had a match with a friend, and he played Luke Cage while I was playing Bullseye. My draws were terrible and he stomped me in three or four rounds. The *funniest* game of Unmatched I've ever played. Was just epically destroyed. Makes me smile just thinking about it.

What percentage of games end with fatigue? Me and my wife enjoy the game and have a couple of the early sets, but we always try to finish each other. I think a fatigue win is somewhat anti-climatic and boring. I know some decks are built to achieve this but it is definitely not our play style.

I'm not sure about actual statistics, but it does not seem to be a large percentage. The threat of fatigue often dictates certain plays, but fatigue actually causing the end of the game is not that often. It's more like, when both players realize that non-interaction results in a win for one person, then the other person goes in even if it requires a boost.

Great video as always! Could you tell me what you meant by the "new ruling re: double attacks" (1:01:07)? Did they finally make it so the second attack doesn't resolve if the defender has moved out of range?? That's all I want for Christmas.

Thanks! Haha no not quite that extreme. If the attacker or defender are defeated during the first attack then the second attack doesn't trigger. Previously it would still go off if a clone was killed from a Wily Fighting during the first attack. Not anymore.

Always do appreciate your videos and fun to see the rankings and tiers. Enjoy so much of your explanations from a game that is horribly unbalanced for a competitive game. I always wanted to play competitive becuse love the game design but its just not fun at all. Only the same set of characters are getting picked. I play with so many people and its actually the same thing. How can a game have competitive scene when the first box released EVER has a character in thr worst tier and the other one is in the Top tier. Why do you think there are no changes to Arthur? Why would you say Ghost Rider being easily one of the weaker marvel characters with a weak deck gets "nerfed"? I have played with over 30 people with no nerfs and not having arthurs power getting cancelled and they still fall in the tiers you mention. There are no patches to released characters and no intention to change horribly weak characters. Even with BOL V2 you have 1 character so low where as the rest 3 sit on the top. But casual play this is a good game. Maybe I gotta try playing against you sometime ;) to go up against a champ!

Thanks for watching :) The game is definitely good for both casual and competitive. Granted we do have to jump through some hoops by using different formats to dictate the pick/ban process. This helps both players get somewhat even matchups for competitive matches and is actually a very integral and fun part of tourney play. Some of the in-box balancing is very poor such as you mentioned with Arthur and Bloody Mary. But when you take into account all of the available characters, there are plenty of great even matchups. And ghost rider "pre-nerf" was one of the biggest problems the game has seen so far. He could win just by maneuvering and boosting with hellfire to run people over without even needing to interact with them in combat. It was very degenerate.

Thanks for the knowledge and insights. Plenty to remark about this list though. It may have been skewed by personal preferences and insights. With 50 fighters in the game nowadays (Buffy x2) there are 1225 possible matchups. It is impossible to gain real insight without properly mining thousands, if not tens of thousands of game results. The human brain cannot comprehend such amount of info. In this list, for example, Yennenga, Bigfoot and Doctor Strange are overrated, and T.Rex and Houdini are underrated, to name a few, based on proper mining of the data.

Yes though data can be misleading as well! You've got to consider what sort of samples are contributing to the data. Are they casual plays or competitive matches, etc? My list is largely subjective based on my own experience as a competitive player. Playing my own games, watching others, talking with other top players. All those factors are used to develop my own opinion on placements.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve spent several free hrs this weekend building a UMLeague database miner to auto-build tier lists. I thought that I was done, and after a diner with friends (and beers) watched your video. I noticed some notable deviations from what I had built, and hence the (somewhat drunken) comment. I spent some more time today to improve the way the algorithm approaches the data. I must say, your list and the one my tool now produces are pretty spot on, with some differences. In mine T.Rex does quite a bit better, for example, and She-Hulk and Little Red somewhat worse. I will share ones it’s all polished. It’s in Excel with macros. You may find it interesting. Keep up the great work !

@tommiel6740 hey that's really cool! If I had to guess I would say Rex is higher because in the past we would play Arsenal format with full advantage, and Rex was a menace back then. Now we play with split advantage and that's why I put Rex a good amount lower than I used to. As for She-Hulk she really had a drop in winrate this most recent WoC, so I would likely have her lower with an updated list. I think the new TTA fighters do well into her. As for Red, I just think she can be hard to play. But I have a lot of faith in her personally.

Hi Zero!! great video!! probably will become the most viewed one of your channel :D About the TOP tier from my perspective would go like this: 1. Elektra 2. Medusa 3. Yennenga 4. Sherlock The reason is i think Yenn and Medusa are very slightly favorable agaisnt him? and then Elektra she is on another level. About TTA, my guess is 1.Tesla in Top Tier - Ranged with his coils ablity and amazing cards. 2.Golden Bat High Tier - Alpine gives him ther recursion of key cards (area damage vs multi sidekicks, extra cancels if you need, random discards, or just pick back Skirmish... its awesome) and Jill in High Tier but after GB, and Annie in Top High mid tier. Defiently an amazing set in every possible way.

Elektra is hard countered by Winter Soldier, Houdini, and Daredevil now. Ghost Rider, Black Panther, and Luke Cage are also favored against her. Medusa, Sherlock, She-Hulk, and Strange are all pretty close matchups against her. I haven't tested Black Widow or TTA against her, but I see some potential there too.

I agree that Yen and Medusa beat Sherlock slightly, but Medusa has gotten too many counters lately for me to put her as high as Sherlock. DD, WS, Ghost Rider all beat her pretty well and then plenty of others go pretty even with her like Red, Widow, Genie.

I am sortoff with Taylor on the line that Medusa is still better than Elektra or Sherlock. She is just so annoyingly consistent, and you keep thinking you are winning or catching up, but you lost 5 turns ago and you don't know it. Nani. Love the insights into characters, and with the number of characters growing, maybe in future lists you should just focus on characters whose position changed or new ones, and just not waste any time on others. We all know why bottom tier looks like it looks, etc.

And yeah there are way too many characters haha. Wonder how people would react if I only did the new characters and the movement. As Spidey: If you have great familiarity with your opponent's deck, won't that place him at a higher tier if you could count cards using your ability? (If you could deduce the attacker's card by knowing which cards of the same base value are already discarded) E.g. "A 2? Knowing your deck and your discard pile, that can only be a Feint".. I wonder how much one can push his skill ceiling

I find the problem with Spidey, is even when you know what is coming you don't have much to work with. He has no Feints or cancels of any kind (which I find baffling), and his defence values aren't that high. All you can really do is take some damage to line up a counter punch, or draw some cards (which most cases you don't really want to do).

Yeah just like Trezzpops said. Even if you know what's coming, his deck just isn't good enough still to win most games. He's too linear being solo melee fighter without any tricky effects.

So I’m relatively new started playing last December and really got into it in February and don’t have all of the sets but I do feel like daredevil is a little high and sinbad is a little low. Also I feel like King Arthur is above Buffy same with Jekyll and Hyde and squirrel girl. Great video! Hi guys, I have a question about one interaction. When you play Electra hit with the Hand "The fist" card and oponent plays wily fighting, can you still take "Fist" card back and continue combo or not because your fighter died?

Nope, because you're unable to deal yourself the damage to bring it back since defender resolves first and your hand is already defeated.

Oh that's such a hard video concept because it changes based on each individual matchup. You really just gotta try things out and see what works best. But for Widow she really doesn't have bad maps I've found 😄 she mostly cares about starting position since she's much better at putting pressure going first.

@user-uf9du8nf6t you still need to fulfill the conditions to play the Mission so no. And yeah Widow struggles against She Hulk on pretty much all maps. Against Rex you always want something bigger than Sanctum no matter what fighter. That map is the smallest in the game.

I really appreciate the content. I'm new to unmatched and we don't have a competitive scene. Just a small gaming group. I'm not familiar with what initiative, or tempo mean. Nor how to plan for fatigue or know the right time to attack. Also I do not see any matchup spreads for any characters. Not familiar with the fundamentals of this game. Not sure if you have any videos covering these fundamentals?

When talking about value I mean the overall card efficiency of the entire deck. If both fighters play through their whole decks and hit exhaustion, one of them is likely to end with more cards than the other. Then that fighter usually ends up winning since they could still attack and defend while the other is helpless.

So cards that have recursion built in like Battle Hardened, or double attacks like Rain of Arrows, or discard effects like Hiss and Slither all are great value.

Hello Zeroskatr12, i like your videos and especially unmatched tier list, they are very consistent and well explained, meanwhile when you was speaking about Sherlock a question pop out in my head, what if : as Sherlock you use Elementary card to block The ancient heirloom from Beowulf (and you predicted right) what happen ? because the sherlock effet say's during combat, ignore the value and effect, but the ancient heirloom is also a during combat that trigger after defense and says that the value is now set to 5 instead of 3 (for two rages) and not cancelable, so this attack can still be at 8 even if it is well predicted since this card effect can't be canceled ? In the same type of question, is there a place where we can find answers about specific gamerule questions ? like a forum or something else ?

Hello there, I would love to join the fun and get into the Unmatched Universe, I am already an advance board game player having in my collection around 30-35 titles, some of them aronud 4/5 weight acording to bgg ranking. I don't want to learn how to play characters without the potential to compete with other matchups than those in the box, I heard that Cobble & Fog is a good starting point, but both characters from this box ended up at the bottom. I can buy up to two boxes and not all of them are available in my country (Poland). I will be fighting mainly with my wife and friends, but we will see how it develops, I would rather not lead to a situation where I will buy a box because of a specific character who will dominate the rest, or that we will start playing characters who are simply weak. Could you help me and lead me what should I look for as a starter in that case??

@kamwu8557 well what sets are available to you? It's a difficult question to answer because none of the sets are perfectly balanced. Though I think the best one is Tales to Amaze. After that I would say either Battle of Legends are good. Though Arthur and Bloody Mary are the weak ones in the set, the other 3 are pretty good.

@ponce4000 well if you open with Kinsasha then you can play that first action and then maneuver up to 7. That's ideal. Otherwise I typically boost in and attack them first turn and that seems to work out fine.

If this game is going to ever grow - it's going to take people like you not "being too good" and actually engaging with friends a bit more off meta. Perhaps they don't want the game to grow. It just makes no sense why it hasn't yet. Hopefully they keep releasing things for it because it is just a blast.

Well Restoration says there are no signs of stopping in the near future. It is still growing, but it's just harder because it's not a TCG or digital game by nature, it's still a Tabletop game. I definitely play off meta with friends and don't play as seriously. But we mostly do 2v2 whenever we play, which is a blast. I don't play 2v2 online because I don't want to get too meta with that mode too and ruin my in-person games.

So, could we expect a guide on Widow any time soon? In my experience she wasn't that great, and when I tried her T-Rex matchup for a local tournament it felt truly hopeless. Her chances into the high-hitters a-la Strange and Houidini dont't seem great.

That's an interesting idea! I could never do a guide for every character, but doing it for my favorite characters could be fun. She's the type of character who doesn't seem that good until you play against a really good one. She's actually one of the better fighters against Strange and the Rex matchup is all about Budapest. Houdini really depends on starting position I would say.

I like Jill but her gadgets aren't as good as In tought because they trigger if your card is higher or lower, but not on a draw and that happened quite a lot in the last two games I played.

Yep that can happen, but I feel it's risky because if you throw a big attack when you have blaster and then defend low to try to avoid the effect, then they get punished. Lots of mind games!

I am surprised that She-Hulk is both so high on the list, and such a bummer to play against. Is Lady Justice really that big of a problem? I know that it averages out to about a 4 most of the time, occasionally bumping up to a 6+, but 1 boosts are pretty common so it should also be a 2 a good chunk of the time, which is bad and it's just a blank 0 if the opponents deck is empty, which is awful. Offensive feints also wreck it (although burning cancels on offense against She-Hulk is super-risky, depending on the game state it could be worth it) and while losing a card is bad into fatigue, it doesn't seem as nasty as something like Ambush which rips a card out of your hand. Generally losing a card from the top of your deck, unless the game goes to fatigue, shouldn't really be that bad, while losing a random card in your hand can severely hinder your gameplan,. That said, the fatigue gameplay does change how the traditional math on card games go, so I could be undervaluing it. And Spider-man's deck is pretty rough (it feels poorly designed, like he has lots of card draw but not anyway to use those cards, lots of movement, but not anywhere to go and effects like +1 damage for a turn, but not really any benefits for that, like gain an action attacks or cards that really benefit from doing a certain amount of damage) but his ability seems strong into say, Wu Kong and Dracula, characters who rely on 50/50's or getting a specific attack off. Does that give him any meta-relevance?

So with She-Hulk, lady Justice is just the biggest offender. I think in design they were concerned about people just running away and forcing her to fatigue, so they gave her a number of tools to deal with that. But the combination of Lady Justice being an average 4v defense that mills an opponents card, sensational recycling those lady justices, and the ridiculously high starting health make her really strong. All of these tools make her good in fatigue and thus force initiative onto the opponent. Now whenever they approach you're able to throw something for damage, attack them with a crazy attacks like savage, Omega, and Sensational, and then maneuver away and repeat. You're spot on with Spiderman, about the card draw and movement and nothing to do with it. I thought he could handle certain matchups as well (specifically wukong and drac as you mentioned) but it still just doesn't work out because they can simply fatigue him. So sad haha

I don't think I gave sensational enough credit (the handful of times I've played She-Hulk it usually gets feinted or full-value blocked) and 3xLady Justices give her a weirdly strong fatigue game. I definitely think they over-corrected from the Spike issue for her. That said, there is a dark part of me who kind of enjoys playing scummy characters (there's a certain kind of fun in stopping your opponent from having any fun) so I'll probably play her too many times before my gaming group makes me stop. Spider-man is bad into fatigue, so I can see what you're saying about how his advantages don't matter. Too bad, I was hoping he might see some niche plays as an anti-meta character. Oh! I also wanted to say I hard-agree with you on Sherlock being the best. He's so oppressive and over-tuned (why does watson have 8 health, he's just a dude) and hand-peeks and forced discards would be such a strong archetype even if he didn't have the numbers to back him up, like he didn't need to have solid values and a great fatigue game on top of it.

I think, Moon knight have to be lower. You played 4 games on SoL, and lose 2 of it on group stage. And Yen is very high, Luke Cage, all for king and country, all Tales to amaze, DD, defeats Yen, Achilles on his map, She-Hulk have many chances too. Yes, Yen can beat many characters from A-tier, but in banquest all of them is banned.

The 2 I lost were against Bigfoot I believe and they couldn't have been any closer. 1 single card in deck, 1hp, 1 extra movement space, any of those and I won those pools games. Much like Yen, the matchup spread is too good to ignore. Consistency is key for a tier list, and both Yen and MK have more of that than most other fighters.

Yep exactly this^ It can be a win condition sometimes depending on the matchup and the gamestate. Technical term is exhaustion.
