Something a lot of people overlooked in the MHWilds trailer is that with the big red kut-ku variant we see at the end, the one with the frenzy, is only afflicted after the grass starts to grow, presumably in the transition to a wet season. From this we can infer that arial-underwater combat is finally being added with the flagship monster for this new feature likely to be Plesigala, lord of the waterborne frenzy.

Honestly though, the land being on the back of the "zorah magdaros" type monster would be perfect for a fully open world mh like this. When you get to the part where it starts moving it actually has effects on the geography, unlocks new content within the open world, disturbs the ecosystem and causes some stronger/new monsters to pop up, as well as different types of gatherables.
