Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men. But the ratio between diagnosis and death from the disease is worth thinking about. Prostate cancer is a deadly disease - so much is true - with roughly 34,000 deaths in the US alone. But far from all men with that diagnosis die from prostate cancer. The problem is that the natural course of the disease is not completely understood. While some men are in danger of dying from it, others are not. Since science hasn't completely figured out how to identify those who are at risk and pick them for according treatment. This results in unnecessary diagnosis and treatment, which remain a real problem in the handling of prostate cancer. Dr. med. dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, urologist from Göttingen, explains in this video on UroChannel the problems linked to the PSA (prostate specific antigen) test. PSA dynamics and multiparametric MRI are tools to help reduce overdetection and overtreatment. Multiparametric MRI has been around for about 15 years and is about to become standard of care soon. Overdiagnosis and overtreatment is a "must know" for every man since a simple blood test may have a profound impact upon the individual's life.

Great video 👍 I've been getting PSA tests since age 72 and my numbers have been in the range from 2.4 - 2.96. this year 2024 being 76, my PSA was 4.11 and was referred to an urologist who ordered an MRI with contrast. The MRI showed 4 lesions. 3 lesions were termed "of possible concern" and the 4th lesion was"not of interest ". Urologist wants to do a TRUS biopsy with 16-20 cores. Given my age of 76 and recent life expectency statistics and no other diagnostic info, I'm kind of on the fence about doing the biopsy and taking on the risk of any complications.

I think a lot of those urinary symptoms you've highlighted are also related to BPH which is very common in men over 50 as well, I had a psa of 2.6 at 50 which was elevated, I had a random plus targeted 16 core biopsy taken which all came back benign, I was told I've an enlarged prostate as my urologist said a normal prostate size is 20cc but mine was measured at 32cc, I think it's just important to highlight that BPH is also very common and is often the case for raised psa, the only way you find out though is to see a urologist and I'm glad you mentioned the growth of the prostate, thank you for the information supplied on your videos.

This is a video about prostate cancer. It is not a video about BPE. Within a 5 minute time frame it is almost impossible to squeeze in meaningful information about prostate, let alone benign prostatic enlargement. For this reason, there are separate videos on BPE. This one for example: Prostate massage: the expert perspective | UroChannel kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYfUhKptj76qqpY

I have two younger brothers that had prostatectomy in their 40s. I believe they were over diagnosed. I get a PSA every 6-8 months. Dr and I watching for change over time. So far so good.

As someone who had a radical prostatectomy at the age of 54 after a biopsy found a T2A tumour, these are the words I remember seeing in my Urologists waiting room; “There are many ways to treat problems with the Prostate, doing nothing isn’t one of them”.

Do u have an idea why latley there seems to be an influx of testicular cancer in particularly young football players as seen in the Bundesliga? My guess would be the percentage is about the same as in the rest of the population but the players just get checked more frequently and the results have been publicized so it just seems to be disproportionate. I might be completely wrong here so please feel free to correct me. Best regards, Hope everyone going through it completely recovers asap.

Testicular cancer typically affects young men. Football players get a lot of attention from the media. But we see right now is just a coincidence.
